Another defector here. Really liked the S8 and it was such a close call for me between the two which I think logically I couldn't justify the upgrade since it was so close, why pay for a new phone that doesn't outshine the old one.

My big gripes:
- The S8 5ghz wifi was a killer for me, worst reception I've ever dealt with, 2.4 was perfect but I would lose the 5ghz connection just 20 feet away from the router sometimes.
- OK Google always on listening, I have grown use to this feature and it was a buzz kill to go without it.
- Wonky Canada version of the software, sounds like other variants were a bit better but on mine uninstalling facebook was a no go, also cant disable camera shutter sounds. I hate the Samsung Model of different versions for every possible region, I'm sure this only makes the update process take even longer to develop and rollout.

Minor gripes:
- Bixby button is f&(*$ing annoying, pull it out of my pocket and I'm staring at the useless Bixby screen, try to turn down the vol and bam! Bixby (I think they placed it poorly on purpose). Maybe they will grow Bixby into something worth while but I'm not holding my breath.
- Fingerprint scanner, annoying placement but I was getting use to it, minor annoyance. I tried using the iris scanner but for me I didn't find it to be ideal and pretty much quit using it.
- Speed of updates, I had tint issues which I would have swapped the phone for if keeping it, but I was waiting for an update to see if that might fix it. This brings back bad memories of past Samsung phones and extremely slow updates (especially for Canadian variants).
- Really wanted to try Samsung pay but up here in the frozen north support is still seriously lacking, hooked it all up and went out to give it a spin and nothing but rejection from pay terminals for me. Can't blame Samsung here as I'm sure it's the banks up here that don't want to get on board with this which sucks cause this is a killer feature for me if it could be reliable.

All that said the S8 has a lot going for it, best looking phone I've ever seen or held. Lots of extra software features are nice in a time when everyone else seems to be following the Apple model and removing features because simplicity is better for the masses. If I had no phone I sure as heck wouldn't be buying a Pixel today at the current price, it would be S8 all the way, but since I had already spent the money and found the S8 to be great but ultimately not significantly better than the Pixel I'm sending it back. Most likely the Note 8 will win me over, and I have a funny feeling that Google is going to screw up the Pixel 2 (*hoping not*).

Everything here lines up with what I think. And oh man I hope that the Note 8 will blow everything else out of the water! If the Google gets the pixel 2 too right though look out, it could get excited!

That is odd, as the Iris is supposed to work well under questionable light or even in darkness due to the infrared sensor.
Works at dark settings every time for me but when I'm blowing trees and my eyes are low that's when I have problems...but it's my problem lol

I'm with the crowd that is happy with my s8+. I even like the position of the fingerprint scanner. For me it means that I reach in my pocked and put my finger on the scanner and my phone is unlocked when I remove it. I also think that the scanner (at least for me) is better for picking up and unlocking the phone with one hand (I have small hands). To each his own.

I forgot my only true gripe I have with my Pixel XL. The bluetooth never worked right all the time. In my vehicle most of the time after receiving a call I would have to disconncet and reconnect it to get my music to play again on stock or custom roms. Using the S8+ bluetooth works flawlessly all the time.

here are a couple photos
Pixel XL

S8+

Notice the houses on left look washed out with S8

XL

S8+

Once again S8 is just a hair too bright and saturated

XL

S8+

Lens flare you say? S8 has it worse here

XL

S8+

Lastly notice the clouds and trees are sharper on the pixel. the s8 just likes to saturate imo especially the grass in this shot
Nice comparisons!

I'm not so big on phone camera. A good photography camera is out there, and I would rather use that and I always plan to make a shot with such. I want the Pixel, but that is no option.
