Hello I'm currently running on a nougat rom and I would like to go back to stock and unroot. I am on Koodo a Canadian carrier what would be the best way to go back to stock? Thanks for any help

Yes.
The thread was actually made for people who are S-On as a way to update firmware. With S-Off you don't need to return to stock to update your firmware.

Do i need my cid and mid for this? or can I just download any version of these? or do i need one for my specific carrier?

You need one for your carrier, or more specifically the version that matches your current firmware and your CID/MID

You can find your CID and MID in your bootloader menu. Your current firmware version is also listed there under "OS"
EDIT: on the M8 the MID won't be there, but your CID and firmware version will be. That is all you need
