I was looking for a carbon fiber case for my Note 8 and bigmann77 pointed me towards Pitaka as something that may be along the lines of what I wanted. My goal was something that was thin, light, strong, and complimented the beautiful Note 8.

[Purchase]
Ordered the Pitaka Aramid Fiber Note 8 case and MagMount (Car Vent) MagCase for Samsung Galaxy Note 8 $39.11
MagMount (Car Vent) $14.87 (Not much to review, its a great little vent mag mount, but nothing more exciting than any of the others out there)
Shipping $0.00
Total $53.98
A few days later I received a discount via refund for the combo purchase (MagMount + MagCase) of 9.99
Grand total $43.99

Order was placed on 10/31/2017
Order shipped via DHL on 11/06/2017

[Review]
Appearance: It's absolutely stunning, the weave is perfectly done and the trimming is super precise. It looks exactly like I had expected it to, It reminds me a lot of the Ringke Slim I used to have on my S5, but even thinner.
This case is totally screen protector friendly, it barely touches any of the front glass.

Feel: It has a slight rubbery feel to it which is a major improvement over how slick the non-protected phone feels. It has a similar feel to a smooth TPU.

Buttons and ports: Everything is easily accessible, the cutouts are generous but precise. The top mic port is not perfectly centered and that is a tad annoying.

To give a better sense of how thin this is, the buttons are barely indented from the case and almost seem to be even with them. I got used to the rubber buttons from the Spigen Neo Hybrid that I had on there. This will take some time to get used to.

NFC, Wireless charging: Works perfectly, in fact a LOT better than with the Spigen case on there. I used to have to position it perfectly with the spigen to pick up and now it's a lot less sensitive.
I was able to use tap to pay at lunch and that also worked very well.
Magnetic mounts are working great now, it used to move a lot when I used a mag mount and a TPU case, with these imbeded plates it grabs instantly and holds strong.

Quality: Top notch - I cannot find any flaws in the build. This is defintely a high quality product and for this perfection alone I think this could actually command a higher price.

Protection: This case is strong, very strong. You really can't bend or flex it much unless you put some effort into it. While I would say that it offers little to no shock protection, it definitely will distribute the force well if it fell on the corners or back.

I feel that the Spigen probably protected it better, but I have nothing to back that up aside from the additional bulk that it offered versus this wafer thin aramid fiber.

Could be improved: It would be nice to have some sort of raised edge on the top and bottom, but perhaps it wouldnt look or feel as good as it does. I'm on the fence if that is an improvement.

[Overall Thoughts]
This is a great case for those who want a minimalist approach and is not rough with their phones. I am not willing to drop test it to see if it's as strong as they claim - but I wouldn't have done it with the other case I had either. What it has done for me is given me a better grip, protected the back from scratches and provided some additional strength to the corners without sacrificing the feel of the phone. I think this is as close as you can get to a bare phone while still offering a decent amount of additional protection.

This is the first case I have owned that has actually enhanced the look and feel and not just felt like I was childproofing it. I will be changing my habit of placing the phone face down even though I have a screen protector on it though and I do feel like I am being more gentle with it. Maybe that's because it's new to me or maybe that's just a better idea in general.

Have I ordered from this mfg before? No.
Would I order this product again? Yes - at least from initial impressions.
Planned additional purchases from Pitaka: MagMount QI
[UPDATE] They have provided me a coupon code to share, use Ken10 for 10% off.

I will update this thread after a month or so to see how it's held up.

Amazing! I'm glad you like it. Awesome company, I have several of their products and am awaiting the MagMount QI as well.

What kind of Spigen case is that?
Looks like the Spine NeoHybrid

Absolutely bigmann, I searched for awhile for something like this. I am glad I posted and you offered that suggestion else I would have never found it. Day 2 into the case I am already used to the feel and shape. It is so slime I can almost put the Spigen case on over it - the TPU fits but can't clip the bezel on.

Yes, the case I replaced was a Spigen NeoHybrid. I will be holding onto it for awhile as my backup - however the Pitaka is probably my favorite case I've purchased, well second favorite as I loved the Otterbox on my early 2000's Blackberry.

So your not putting it face down because it doesn't keep the screen off a flat surface? I've busted two Whitestone screen protectors on small 3 foot drops onto tile on the corners.

I was avoiding it but not anymore, I have a tpu screen protector it's fine face down.

I've tried to understand what the whitestone comment is referring to but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Sorry.

I just ordered one I have been looking for a case that will work with my car magnet mount and my wireless chargers. So either I have been having to choose either magnetic mount or wireless charging. Does this case work good with the mag mount does it stuck good and does it fall off?

Works fantastic with the pitaka mount and a tankship one I got off of Amazon. These cases have imbeded metal plates in them so it hits the magnet strong without having to add an additional plate.

With the tpu case I had it would shift a lot. With this case it sticks better than it did as a bare phone.

I am getting the pitaka qi mag mount next, super satisfied with their products.

Additional note, I wanted a carbon fiber case until I read that the carbon an actually mess with signal strength and nfc - Kevlar (aramid fiber) does not have that issue.

You'll like it. Great customer support and a great product.

My Magmount QI should be in the mail soon. I have their regular MagMount and it's the same high quality.

Looks like the case went up to $49 but I would still say it's worth it, at least to me. There are some coupons floating around I have seen online so it's worth a look.

Thanks for the review. My only quarrel is you say you can't find any flaws in the build quality, yet you say the mic cutout isn't on center. I would consider that a flaw in build quality.

I can see that. but I saw that as more of a design flaw/issue, and really I can't say if it was intentional or not. It doesn't cover the port or block anything it's just not how I would have done it. I'm a car guy so build quality in my world is all about implementation. The use of the materials and the way it was actually done is flawless, in the design there are some things I would have tweaked. The irony that your SN is Semantics is not lost on me :D

I also know that I got a first run case so I really want to see more reviews before I totally pass judgement. I friend of mine at work just ordered the same one, we'll see what his is like in a week.

I was going to order one, but I can't justify 50 bucks for a minimalist case. I can grab a Spigen thin fit that would offer the same protection and size, minus the carbon fiber look for 10 bucks. Great, thorough, review though.

It's definitely a more costly option, but Kevlar is incredibly strong, you really aren't going to get that out of a plastic molded case. So protection would definitely be up for debate, the Spigen would not be as strong by any stretch - but for the purpose of a slim case for the Note 8 will that benefit ever be realized? Probably not.

The Spigen thin fit is thicker, heavier, not as strong, and not a great choice for magnetic mounts without a plate. But does that really matter? All up to the individual.

I had that Pitaka case for the S8+ and i wasn't really happy with it.
If you hold your phone in landscape mode the edges of the case feels pretty sharp and because of that case fits that tight on the phone you better make sure that there is no dust between the case and the phone.
Also taking off the case to clean the phone is really a pain because of that strong material.

I wonder if they got better or if the less rounded corners of the note were easier to address. I pop the case off easily from the top and there are no sharp edges to report.

I've not seen the s8 version, this is the only one I've had. Thanks for the info, I may avoid it for my wife's 8 or the kids 7s I was planning on some Xmas gifts but I don't want any of those hassles. Looks like it's a note only case for me.

On that note, what do you recommend for a similar s8 case?
