The case isn't designed to protect your phone if dropped. Only the top and bottom edges have some protection.
It's a slim case which adds some grip to the back and makes it easier to hold and protects the glass back from scratches. Plus the added benefit of being compatible with the magnetic car holder.
Hi, actually the case does provide a basic protection. According to our experiences, it protects your phone from most of the daily drops. Nevertheless, there's some common sense that should be noticed:
1. Besides the heights, the drop damages are mostly depending on the angles when dropping.
2. The various ground or floor is also a key factor in the dropping. Dropping your phone onto a sandy ground would probably be worse than drop onto a wood floor.
3. The grip of the phone body. A grippy phone case reduces chances of drops.
With that being said, a bulky case may give more protections. But the drops really depends. What we have been using PITAKA cases for more than three years in the city life, and they really protect in most of our daily life.
But if you want a case that provides more protection, our new generation case MagCase Pro will be released soon, which could provide better protection but still maintains its original features.

Yes but the screen is such a freaking fingerprint magnet that I've got to wash my hands often to not leave streaks there as well anyway! And I just work in an office!

Yes, MagCase is made from transparent coatings and see-through material so it's easier to see the streaks compared with other material.
