I used to have similar misconceptions.. Google services addresses "all" Google's services that "any" app may use. It is only the smoke and not the fire.. You'll want to look at what is actually draining. BBS or similar app is recommended..
The screenshot is running the latest gapps and no special apps or settings.. Just stock Carbon.. It sleeps flat, all services enabled..

When on LTE, and using the phone normally (not constantly), standby of at least 18h, and SOT of 4-5 h. You can never have no Google Play services listing in the battery stats. Can anyone confirm? [Don't comment @Setting.Out, we all know about your magnificent nuclear reactor]
Yeah on data 3g or lte I too find play services in battery stats,sometimes it leads the battery consumption list.
But when I use wifi whole day I hardly find play services in the list.
6.0 micro may build has no mirrors??
