After getting my S3, I noticed two things that I really wanted to accomplish:

1. Improving the battery life without decreasing performance
2. Removing the random Rogers apps + S voice stuff + other bloatware

I improved the battery life by installing CPU Sleeper (running v2.1 atm). Before installing this app, I noticed that my phone would randomly get really hot and the battery would start to drain. This app makes sure that the phone goes into deep sleep when not being used and does not waste your charge.

I removed the following apps using Titanium Backup Pro and have not noticed any change in functionality. I did not need any of the Samsung features so I removed those as well. Frankly, I don’t think S Voice works as well it could be and is not very useful at this point in time:

I am currently running the rooted stock ROM for Rogers and get about 16-20 hours of battery life on a single charge. LTE is enabled, GPS is on, Notifications are enabled, Sync is enabled, Smart Stay is on, and Power Saving mode is disabled. I am sure if I disabled some of these features, the battery life would increase. I do not see the point in doing that since I would be compromising on performance. The only thing I don’t use is the motion control, but that is because I don’t like them.

Some of the services you nuked may be core to getting things like AVRCP working.. If anyone is following your footsteps with this shotgun approach to removing files, they may want to freeze them first and run it for a bit before nuking the files completely..

the first thing I did with the phone is freeze all the rogers-installed bloatware.. didn't remove it.. but froze it which really is the same thing as far as the phone performance and battery life is concerned...

few of the items you listed were truncated as well..

from what I could see as well from the list, quite a few of the things removed aren't actually apps that run in memory randomly.. so they would not have adverse impact on your battery unless you use them..

regardless, good work and try and give an update down the road with progress.. how much improved the battery is, and did it break anything...

With Bell: I can easily make 2 days, 26 apps removed, GPS off and Brightness Auto.

I froze all of these apps for over a week before removing them. All my services are running fine. I just recently deleted these and have not had anything go wrong on the system. I also did a complete backup before deleting them so if I ever need them in the future, I can restore using titanium.

My intention was to provide a list of apps that are safe to remove for people running the rooted Rogers stock ROM. There is a lot of stuff available for the American providers but I have not seen anything explicitly for Rogers. Figured this would be a good way to start.

As for the battery life, I used to get 10-12 hours of usage (at most) before. The main problem was that the phone would be in standby and start heating up by itself (this happened before and after rooting - rooting the phone did not cause it). I used CPU Spy to monitor the processor and I noticed that the phone was constantly clocking over 1300 and was rarely in deep sleep mode while in stand by. After installing CPU Sleep (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745516), the phone has not over heated even once and I have been getting battery life ranging from 16-20 hours (depending on usage). It can probably go for longer but I go to sleep and end up charging it (I don't need it to go longer). The key thing is that I have all the features enabled and do not need to compromise on performance.

Why do you guys use Titanium to freeze them? I disable the bloatware in app settings and that seems to do the trick.
I like Titanium. Does a thorough backup of app + data and you can sync to dropbox for remote backup just in case something goes really messed up on your phone. I tried disabling some apps from the OS before but it ended up enabling a couple of them. I could have probably froze the apps and not worried about deleting them but I deleted them anyways just because I could :p

I use titanium for backups, configured it to save backups to my external sd card. You should be careful what apps you delete, as some apps can effect others. I just disabled on the os, and the headache is gone, but I can bring them back if my warranty so dictates. If you use titanium I advise to freeze and not delete.

Yeah, I guess it is always better to freeze. Once again, I did freeze these apps for over a week before I uninstalled them. I did not notice any system issues which is why I then uninstalled them after backing them up. For future though, I guess I can just freeze and leave it alone since its practically the same thing, especially if I am backing up the file.
