Only the firmware was based off Hydrogen Android 10 which is in beta however the new firmware is based off the Oxygen Android 10 beta, so technically both firmware is still in beta.
Yeah, but at least it now uses Open Beta firmware rather than closed beta leaks not intended for official use. It uses firmware from something that is official and not just some leaked prototype crap from an OS made for a completely different continent and culture.

Nope. Clean flashed with latest OrangeFox. No custom kernels. Noticed in the inbuilt CPU monitor that 4 cores were always on 1.9 GHz. BetterBatteryStats showed no deepsleep. So overheating and battery drain together.
What does clean flash mean in your case, and on which rom have you been before flashing latest build of crdroid?

Yes Android 9. The instructions didn't mention vendor so I didn't wipe vendor.
When coming from another Android base (7 -> 8, 8 -> 9 or from 9 to 10) it's highly recommended to format and not only wipe.

Backup your important stuff to an external storage i.e. pc, reboot to recovery and format (note that everything will be erased doing that).
After that reboot recovery, grant permission to write and wipe everything (just to be sure) except USB, after that transfer needed files to internal storage (firmware, rom, gapps and Magisk if you need root).

Flash the files in the stated order and wipe cache after flashing then reboot to system and it should work.

If your device bootloops to whatever reason after flashing, boot to recovery and wipe system, data and cache in twrp and flash without Magisk ( you can flash it after first system boot).
