Wow, this ColtOS is wonderful! Took me many trials before it would work with my portable SD card. Had the same trouble with AEX, requiring the card to be reformatted, which I certainly do not want to do. But I got AEX to work with my card by dirty flashing it upon a restored image that was okay with the portable card (namely, Danil's j33 build of LOS-16). And just now, I finally got ColtOS to recognize my card by dirty flashing it upon AEX v7.3, didn't even wipe dalvik/cache. This somehow sort of grandfather'd in my card, I guess; along with lots of other settings. ColtOS is the best ROM yet, many thanks @mernurisha !
It is quite normal after a fresh installation if the message in the status bar says set up or format SD card.
If your SD card is recognized by the system, then simply delete this message and you do not need to do anything else.
I always get this message in the status bar when I install a new rom. For the first setup of the rom this is normal.

I see, thanks. The notification I get when I clean install is... There's an issue with your SD card, click to fix. I click and it gives me the choice to use the card for extended internal storage or as portable storage. I always want portable. Then it makes me choose Format or Cancel, versus other phones and clean ROM installs, it says... You're all set. When I dirty flash, I see the SD card icon appear in top left corner only momentarily during bootup; after that, file explorers, etc. can see and use the card.

Well, your SD card is not recognized by the system. There can be several reasons for this.
- encryption?
- card is not compatible with the rom?
How about usb-stick as external memory. Is it recognised?

Can a portable card be recognized by the system and compatible with the rom SOMEtimes, and not recognized or compatible at other times? Card is working totally fine with ColtOS right now, but I'm not out of the woods yet because ColtOS had an issue with the card for awhile yesterday. Here's what happen'd:

After tweaking ColtOS customizations to my satisfaction early yesterday, I booted into TWRP v3.4.0 and stored a backup image. Later yesterday I made a few more tweaks and tested out a few more of my apps (e.g. Firefox) and had time to store a 2nd backup. All was well with the card up to that point. But when I rebooted the system after storing 2nd backup, ColtOS took issue with the card. Later, I found success by restoring the 1st backup and rebooting that slightly less tweak'd system. Really wish I had paid closer attention to exactly what things I tweak'd, weather I had Wi-Fi on when powering off, and what all I did on Firefox. It seems something during that time span caused the temporary incompatiblity.

BTW no encryption of anything ever. And I have no usb-stick (tho I can easily transfer files to and from PC via usb).

... I never had the problem with the SD card.
Anyway, I made the necessary modifications. I hope it works.
Well, I did have a problem with portable SD card when rebooting after restoring 1 of my 2 backups, but other was okay. That was the earlier ColtOS v6.2 from 0726. With this update of 0805, it's now ColtOS v6.3 and it works totally fine with my portable SD card. I even tested rebooting after storing a backup image of the new system, and that also works with the card. Huge thanks, @mernurisha !

Do you mean i9192i (with uppercase i at the end)? That would be a dual SIM variant of the Value Edition. Without i at end, it's not a Value Edition. So it has a completely different chip set.
Dual sim GT-I9192 (serranodsdd). This ROM looks great, sad that the team has discontinued support for this device I did not find this ROM earlier to test.. :(
Thanks for responding and good work.

Is this an update of the AospExtended ROM or something else?

By the way is AospExtended fully open-source?

Thanks!
No, it's a completely different rom, which is also based on AOSP like AEX.
The source of AEX hasn't been updated yet, and I didn't want to open a new thread for a new rom here. So I put the ColtOS rom in this thread for testing. That' s all.
Yes, AospExtended is fully open source, like almost all AOSP sources.

I got some issues with the latest 0725 AEX rom:
- Google photos sync error, photos stuck and not syncing.
- Somebody is calling me while screen is on, but I cannot see, just hear the ringtone, and I cannot accept / refuse the call.

Thanks.

Do you have GApps installed, if so which one?
