It works in the AOD on crDroid...so yes it does support DT2W
I do not understand the difference between ambient display and always on display? It's the same thing I thought. The display is active and so DT2W works.
But not if the display is off.
In LOS15 for A5 - as far as I understood - was an option for DT2W without ambient display, which drew plenty of power. Probably because the display was active but black.
Just my 2cents

Are saves going to internal or external storage? Can you see a difference if you save a photo onto each to check it or are the same result?

I'm wondering if a format of your external SD card will cure this. The photo has clearly taken but looks corrupt

This is with saves going to internal memory, for apps like WhatsApp and Facebook the photos won't even be written anywhere permanent until you decide to send them anyway. I tried setting footej to external SD instead just now and it came back with 0kb files instead of the grey file like I attached but I guess that might be a permissions thing.

Just wanted to say that unlike many others, this ROM has been working beautifully for me. No sound issues, no call issues, bluetooth works fine. I do notice a slightly worse battery life with ambient display, but that is to be expected, and there is that (known?) issue with OpenCamera being unable to save to the external SD card, but that's all.

Possibly. Try backing up your entire SD card to a PC/laptop.

Format it.

Reinsert it and set permissions. Take a few photos to check. Then restore your files from the PC

Worth a shot

Hi,
after 2 weeks with LOS16 on my A5, I have some problems.

First, Signal app is not working anymore. I don't know why but it crashes instantly after oppening. This seems to be the only app with this problem. This is the app I use the most so it's a problem for me (I had a similar problem with another app on LOS14.1 and it has been resolved by itself, I don't know how).

Second, I am unable to complete the lock screen pattern. When I put the wrong pattern, a message indicates it's not the good one, as usual. But when I put the correct one, screen turns black and return to the pattern lock screen without logging in the system. The digital print works pretty well (and faster than LOS14.1) and I can unlock my phone with it.
However, when I restart the phone the pattern lock must be done the first time. So I have to trick : I call myself with another phone, while in conversation I try to get back to desktop, the system shows the pattern lock, I enter the good one, something crashes (I don't know what...) and I'm able to go to desktop normally.

It's very weird...

Finally, the rom is very good. Maybe it's because I dirty flashed from LOS14.1 I have these problems. I'll try a clean install if nobody wants to inspect these bugs.

Good work and keep going.
Greetings.

Thanks but I am not worried about the external SD when the phone is unable to take photos to to internal memory. It's using the external SD just fine for everything else

That's fine. It definitely looks like a corruption rather than not being able to take a photo.

Best option maybe is for you to simply find a preferred camera app and use that.

Sorry I've not been able to help.

Hi,

same issue here. The app which gets killed when I unlock the phone during a phone call is com.android.systemui . I've been looking around but I can't find any solution (still searching).

However, I agree, the ROM is great, and makes the phone a lot more usable than under the 14.1 ROM. I only hope I will not have to reset the phone..

Thanks a lot for the work!

Never dirty flash when changing OS versions and revision numbers. Leads to exactly those kind of issues and more.

Yes you're totally right. But I have to test it, I'm curious.
After a clean install, it works pretty well.

However, I lost all my app & data.

Have you a tip to restore app & data after a new OS version install ? Is it ok to restore a twrp backup of 'data' after this kind of change ?
Thanks.

Sadly Aandroid sucks for that and some app will refuse to restore a backup and force you to re-setup from scratch (Viber/Instagram/Twitter/etc... for example). Some apps i know i can use adb backup/restore from the command line for those i use that, for others i manually copy the database (adb pull to computer harddrive) and the push it back manually to internal memory and then su, then cat /sdcard/databases > /data/user/0/com.my.app/database/databases (sometimes it's /data/data/com.my.app/database/databases). I've never had luck with backup apps something critical always breaks

But you have to face the fact that a lot of the apps won't let you fully restore properly, i think Google did that to force us to sync to the cloud (Google Drive) all your personal data and passwords. Which is why i disabled and stopped using all analytics in my apps sold on the Play store to stop them from leaching a lot of personal data. In case you want to know how much apps and Android itself are leaking data install No Root Firewall https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.greyshirts.firewall from the play store and see all the IP addresses being access. You'll be surprised how Facebook and Ad sites and Google itself leak data, so many ways and algorithms that connect out there to get your data needlessly. Sorry for the rant but it pisses me off, lol.

Short of it, there isn't a simple way anymore thanks to Google prepare to lose some data for every updates, backup often.

Edit: forgot to address TWRP, if you restore a prior version through TWRP you'll be doing the same thing as dirty flashing and will still have issues. Mind you it's good to keep a prior version becouse you can always reflash a prior version of the ROM and restore your data if something isn't working with the new updates. But as far as moving from old to new no it will cause the same issues.

Edit #2: Also forgot to mention that if you upgrade through dirty flashing in the last year you will usually not be able to revert to prior version of the ROM with the same data. For some reason something changed (and i haven't had the time to look into it) and reverting back can cause bootloops or cause the OS to refuse your pin/password/pattern. I've already been bitten twice by this issue this year on various devices. Which is why i now keep a TWRP backup prior to the update as well as the single app backups as described above.

Have wiped cache and dalvik. I don't have exposed.

If you have Bromite installed or some other WebView replacement it can cause issues with apps that access the web that way or are essentially web-apps themselves. When i had it installed i had a lot of issues and removing it fixed most of them. I had it installed through a Magisk module. Also had issues with the stable Magisk version, and ended up having to use the "canary" version. Just an FYI for something to look at if you have it installed.

Try Migrate. I've been using that to switch between ROMs for quite a while now and have had very few issues, you can copy apps and data on your old ROM, then flash the ZIP file(s) it creates from within TWRP. You then restore from within the OS.

Dirty flash from official LOS 17.1 to test :
0- Boot to TWRP (the latest)
      1- Wipe system and caches
      2- Flash lineage-18.1-20210522-UNOFFICIAL-a57y17lte.zip, open_gapps-arm64-11.0-nano-20210513-TEST.zip and Magisk-v23.0.zip
      3- Reboot to system
      4- Enjoy !

      Note:
      - I failed to flash MindTheGapps ("Could not mount /mnt/system Aborting")
      - This device is not my daily driver.

No sweat so far (see screenshots)

Thank you @Option58 for this great job !

What did you change to the device/kernel/vendor to get it compiling? Is there a patch or new code trees i can tinker with?

Also so far on my tiny old puter that i had dedicated for that it seems want to start with just 8gb of ram using -j1 on make and setting a 32gb swap file and setting the java heap to 6GB.

First off I have to say a huge thank you to @Option58 for developing this rom for us 2017 galaxy a5 and a7 users, you really are amazing for taking the time out of your day to do these things. You have extended the service life of our phones and saved us money o, so thank you!

I do now have some feedback about my experience with lineage os 17.1 on my A5, and yes I did do a clean flash with TWRP recovery and erased all the storages, cache, dalvik etc. The issue I seem to be having occurs on youtube where the videos would constantly freeze and replay, or stutter, or the video would suddenly lag behind the audio and it would freeze and catch up again. I did do a factory reset and reloaded lineage with another clean flash but it did not help. I also have the same issue on youtube vanced.

I also have an issue with ram useage being extremely high to the point where I can not multi task with youtube playing and go through my gallery or other apps. This would work without issue before hand on the stock rom.

So is there any way to reduce ram useage and does anyone have any suggestions to fix my laggy youtube?

Thanks so much and looking forward to lineage os 18.1!

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10 (q), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

      Code:
      /*
      * Your warranty is now void.
      *
      * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
      * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
      * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
      * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
      * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
      */

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit Gerrit Code Review.

      Does this rom support VoLTE?
No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.

      New build up!

This one is huge. The changelog list is big and I've probably fixed more bugs in the previous 7 days than I did in the past 6 months.
Lineage 17.1 for this device is getting better and a lot of bugs are squashed now. We can now declare this a beta!

All the changes for this build are now properly sorted and merged-in. You can easily find everything at github.com/LineageOS, build the rom yourselves and contribute with new code, if you are able to.

      • Beta 3.0
        • Pulled RIL blobs from G965F Q firmware (more modern, fixes signal strength)
        • Fixed issues with connecting to RILD (fixes in-call volume, fixes echo in calls)
        • Updated GPS blobs from A720S P firmware (better signal, we are actually able to acquire a lock)
        • Updated fingerprint blobs from A720S P firmware (works more reliably, dropped all hacks)
        • Pulled sensors from A720F O firmware (cleaner)
        • Updated DRM to support Widevine L1
        • More HALs are binderized
        • Build FlipFlap (a flip cover app)
        • Fully written and enforced selinux policy
        • Latest LineageOS sources

      https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=304603
      17
Also I've just updated my sources so you can fully build the rom again.

I've tested some roms like PixelExperience today on my device. It's not bad with the added 'google' feel to it. Later I might test RR and others.
All that I'm asking from both developers and users is please be clear that these roms are based on LineageOS. Meaning that most of the hard work that actually got them to work was done here, on LineageOS. And unfortunately most of the issues they are facing as well :p Work was done by RaymanFX, forkbomb, and in the latest days by me. Not respecting this makes me less motivated to keep working on the device.

      Cheers :highfive:
