Hi all and thank you for your hard working on this great ROM.

I'm on a Samsung A5 2017 with 30 August ROM and iI noticed that call forwarding does not work.

if I tap on "Call forwarding" I get a screen saying "Call settings Error-Tutn on the radio before viewing these settings". Of course the radio is on.

If I remember well, this problem was present also on Lineage 14.

Sadly Aandroid sucks for that and some app will refuse to restore a backup and force you to re-setup from scratch (Viber/Instagram/Twitter/etc... for example). Some apps i know i can use adb backup/restore from the command line for those i use that, for others i manually copy the database (adb pull to computer harddrive) and the push it back manually to internal memory and then su, then cat /sdcard/databases > /data/user/0/com.my.app/database/databases (sometimes it's /data/data/com.my.app/database/databases). I've never had luck with backup apps something critical always breaks

But you have to face the fact that a lot of the apps won't let you fully restore properly, i think Google did that to force us to sync to the cloud (Google Drive) all your personal data and passwords. Which is why i disabled and stopped using all analytics in my apps sold on the Play store to stop them from leaching a lot of personal data. In case you want to know how much apps and Android itself are leaking data install No Root Firewall https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.greyshirts.firewall from the play store and see all the IP addresses being access. You'll be surprised how Facebook and Ad sites and Google itself leak data, so many ways and algorithms that connect out there to get your data needlessly. Sorry for the rant but it pisses me off, lol.

Short of it, there isn't a simple way anymore thanks to Google prepare to lose some data for every updates, backup often.

Edit: forgot to address TWRP, if you restore a prior version through TWRP you'll be doing the same thing as dirty flashing and will still have issues. Mind you it's good to keep a prior version becouse you can always reflash a prior version of the ROM and restore your data if something isn't working with the new updates. But as far as moving from old to new no it will cause the same issues.

Edit #2: Also forgot to mention that if you upgrade through dirty flashing in the last year you will usually not be able to revert to prior version of the ROM with the same data. For some reason something changed (and i haven't had the time to look into it) and reverting back can cause bootloops or cause the OS to refuse your pin/password/pattern. I've already been bitten twice by this issue this year on various devices. Which is why i now keep a TWRP backup prior to the update as well as the single app backups as described above.

Thanks for your advices. :good:
I also do prior backups with twrp before flashing. However, I lost them just after the clean install. So I couldn't try the restore thing this time.

I use Blokada to screen trackers and adds. Maybe I could give a shot to NoRoot Firewall which seems similar.

Try Migrate. I've been using that to switch between ROMs for quite a while now and have had very few issues, you can copy apps and data on your old ROM, then flash the ZIP file(s) it creates from within TWRP. You then restore from within the OS.

Thanks. I knew migrate after Titanium backup went tricky. I think it is similar to do a backup with twrp, isn't it? I'm not comfy with those apps.

Moreover, I noticed that on call the screen turns black thanks to the proximity sensor but is not desactivated. Thus, it is possible to disable microphone, hang up, access quick parameter, etc. when calling while the screen is black.
Is someone else having this trouble ?

In TWRP I do this from the computer once i've run a backup:

adb pull /sdcard/TWRP .

this will transfer to the computer the entire TWRP directory, that way if something goes south you will still have all the backups available.

Yes sir, permission granted. ;)

Not working.

I tried to wipe data and network went unclickable .
Rom not detecting sim cards..

Don't know what might be the problem

Wipe cache? Magisk modules? Xposed?

Did all.

I did only rom installation and couldn't sign in to Google account for initial setup

Hi guys,

who knows about that issue and who can help, or is it been already put in the ToDo list? Everything is working fine only the WhatsApp Video Calls have issues, and they are lagging.

Thanks

Hey guys,

is there still nobody who can help out here? And I am not the only one who has that issue.

20190402 Unofficial, 20190707 Unofficial, 20190809 Nightly, 20190816 Nightly, 20190901 Nightly
On all this builds my WhatsApp video calls were as good as one can expect from WhatsApp...

There are various possible causes that can reduce quality... This ROM is probably not one of them. But if you want a developer to look into it, at least they need your logs.

Updated to 20190904 build. Everything fine as it looks like. Except the MAC Address Problem for WLAN still exists. Just curious, setenforce disables selinux, so selinux blocks the MAC address stuff?

Hi Amir,
Depends on what you call official... Samsung didn't bring Pie to the A5 and A7. And also, isn't likely to do so in the future. Oreo is the latest ROM from Samsung. So, if you want Pie, you depend on custom ROMs. Now LineAge have there own official support for the A7. You'll need some basic skills to perform the install. You can find the instructions here: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/a7y17lte/install

Please be aware that you will loose all Samsung software. For me, that is an advantage. Only thing i miss is the Samsung Nightlamp (bluelight filter)... Color temparature adjustment is not the same as a blue light filter... Wish to see something like that in Lineage.

I'm an owner of an A5 2017... It surpirses me a lot that they brought Pie update to A7 but not to A5...

Amir, I'll back your pardon... Seems like there is an official update from Samsung for your phone.

To install the official Pie update, open Settings > Software update > Download updates manually. Wait for the check for updates. Tap OK and Start. When it's asking for a restart, tap OK

Just wanted to say that unlike many others, this ROM has been working beautifully for me. No sound issues, no call issues, bluetooth works fine. I do notice a slightly worse battery life with ambient display, but that is to be expected, and there is that (known?) issue with OpenCamera being unable to save to the external SD card, but that's all.

Same experience here :)

Your wrong that was beta build which coursicano found and hades one ui updated because of it
thread is closed now
That wasnt smooth and fast like stock roms (takes 3 sec to open an app that open in 1 sec in stock rom or lineage)
Now a720s offical update released only for korean variant and dev closed thread without any reason after people talking about offical a720s pie and hope for more stable and faster one ui
Also how to remove my messages for cleaning thread?(using xda app)

Hi, I agree with both of you. Except one thing...
Don't you have a problem with the screen during call ? Mine turn black but is still activated during phone call which sometimes cause me to mute the microphone. Can you tell me if you experience the same issue ?
Thanks ;)

Dirty flash from official LOS 17.1 to test :
0- Boot to TWRP (the latest)
    1- Wipe system and caches
    2- Flash lineage-18.1-20210522-UNOFFICIAL-a57y17lte.zip, open_gapps-arm64-11.0-nano-20210513-TEST.zip and Magisk-v23.0.zip
    3- Reboot to system
    4- Enjoy !

    Note:
    - I failed to flash MindTheGapps ("Could not mount /mnt/system Aborting")
    - This device is not my daily driver.

No sweat so far (see screenshots)

Thank you @Option58 for this great job !

What did you change to the device/kernel/vendor to get it compiling? Is there a patch or new code trees i can tinker with?

Also so far on my tiny old puter that i had dedicated for that it seems want to start with just 8gb of ram using -j1 on make and setting a 32gb swap file and setting the java heap to 6GB.

First off I have to say a huge thank you to @Option58 for developing this rom for us 2017 galaxy a5 and a7 users, you really are amazing for taking the time out of your day to do these things. You have extended the service life of our phones and saved us money o, so thank you!

I do now have some feedback about my experience with lineage os 17.1 on my A5, and yes I did do a clean flash with TWRP recovery and erased all the storages, cache, dalvik etc. The issue I seem to be having occurs on youtube where the videos would constantly freeze and replay, or stutter, or the video would suddenly lag behind the audio and it would freeze and catch up again. I did do a factory reset and reloaded lineage with another clean flash but it did not help. I also have the same issue on youtube vanced.

I also have an issue with ram useage being extremely high to the point where I can not multi task with youtube playing and go through my gallery or other apps. This would work without issue before hand on the stock rom.

So is there any way to reduce ram useage and does anyone have any suggestions to fix my laggy youtube?

Thanks so much and looking forward to lineage os 18.1!

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10 (q), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    Code:
    /*
    * Your warranty is now void.
    *
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
    */

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit Gerrit Code Review.

    What's working?

    • Audio
    • Calls
    • Wifi
    • Hotspot
    • Mobile data
    • GPS
    • Bluetooth
    • Fingerprint
    • Hardware composer
    • OpenMAX (hardware encoding/decoding)
    • Camera (photos + recording)
    • NFC
    • Sensors
    • Vibration
    • Double tap to wake
    • Always on display
    • Software encryption
    • Sepolicy

    Supported variants

All variants of Galaxy A5 (2017) and Galaxy A7 (2017). Dual SIM is also supported.

    How to install
    1. Make sure you had Samsung's Oreo firmware bootloader and modem before installing this.
    2. Make sure you are using the latest official TWRP version.
    3. Download the lineage build and optionally google apps.
    4. In TWRP format data (if you still have stock rom encryption).
    5. In TWRP wipe data and cache.
    6. Flash LineageOS.
    7. Optional: Flash Google apps (rightafter).
    8. Reboot.

You can find the collection along with the guide in THIS xda thread.

I'm sometimes having crackling sound when listening to music
Turn off 'ok google now' functionality in google app settings. If you have troubles finding it you can as well go to settings>apps, find app called 'google' and disable microphone permission.

    Does this rom support VoLTE?
No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.

    My camera flash doesn't work
This is an issue with the camera app. Just tap to focus anywhere and it will start working.

    My device fails to encrypt
    1. You were likely using older TWRP, update to the latest version
    2. Backup your data somewhere (external sd, pc...)
    3. In TWRP Advanced -> Format data.

My hardware keys light up whenever I touch the screen
Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Illuminate buttons only when pressed'. You might want to reduce time on the scaler to 1 second, too.

How to switch to full screen gestures
    1. Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Enable on-screen nav bar'.
    2. Navigate to Settings->System->Gestures->System navigation and tick 'Gesture navigation'.

    New build up!

This one is huge. The changelog list is big and I've probably fixed more bugs in the previous 7 days than I did in the past 6 months.
Lineage 17.1 for this device is getting better and a lot of bugs are squashed now. We can now declare this a beta!

All the changes for this build are now properly sorted and merged-in. You can easily find everything at github.com/LineageOS, build the rom yourselves and contribute with new code, if you are able to.

    • Beta 3.0
      • Pulled RIL blobs from G965F Q firmware (more modern, fixes signal strength)
      • Fixed issues with connecting to RILD (fixes in-call volume, fixes echo in calls)
      • Updated GPS blobs from A720S P firmware (better signal, we are actually able to acquire a lock)
      • Updated fingerprint blobs from A720S P firmware (works more reliably, dropped all hacks)
      • Pulled sensors from A720F O firmware (cleaner)
      • Updated DRM to support Widevine L1
      • More HALs are binderized
      • Build FlipFlap (a flip cover app)
      • Fully written and enforced selinux policy
      • Latest LineageOS sources

    https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=304603
    17
Also I've just updated my sources so you can fully build the rom again.

I've tested some roms like PixelExperience today on my device. It's not bad with the added 'google' feel to it. Later I might test RR and others.
All that I'm asking from both developers and users is please be clear that these roms are based on LineageOS. Meaning that most of the hard work that actually got them to work was done here, on LineageOS. And unfortunately most of the issues they are facing as well :p Work was done by RaymanFX, forkbomb, and in the latest days by me. Not respecting this makes me less motivated to keep working on the device.

    Cheers :highfive:
