I got the new version to install, but every time I tried to root it, I was reverted to july release

Sounds like you are messing up your slots.

Try this...

Boot to bootloader:

~$ fastboot reboot fastboot
~$ fastboot --set-active=b
~$ fastboot update AOSIP.zip (phone will reboot)

Boot to bootloader again:

~$ fastboot reboot fastboot
~$ fastboot --set-active=a
~$ fastboot update AOSIP.zip (phone will reboot)

Boot to bootloader again:

~$ fastboot boot TWRP.zip

Flash MAGISK.zip (try this version if you havent yet)
Boot to system

Yeah, been running since the first build and it's great! Just be sure to back up your partitions prior to installing so that if you ever need to revert back to stock, you won't lose the ability to use the fingerprint scanner. Not backing up can result in permanent loss of fingerprint scanner usage.

Gotta say, this Rom is great. Thank You Constrabus for your efforts in creating this fine piece of software for us to use. I have had it running for roughly 2 weeks now using your July 7th build, and its just great! Certainly looks and feels better than the stock OS on this phone. Hopefully we can figure out this Fingerprint scanner issue soon, since its a bit of annoyance to not have, but not a deal breaker when the rom is just so good.

you mean 8-29 build , yes its working , if you restore your persist.img or if your fp is working already with unlocked bootloader

Will flashing over a previous build work on its own? Will FP work with a simple update? Or does persist.img need to be flashed or a clean install be needed?

Flash on top and boot up should work, if your persist is already in place.

If you boot up and find that it doesn't work, you can always go back to bootloader and flash your persist backup:

~$ fastboot flash persist persist.img
~$ fastboot reboot

If after that it still doesn't work, it means that we didn't back up persist properly. Which you can fix by following a guide.

Any word on the TWRP stuff? looking around on the forum I'm not seeing anything related to it. Just curious as that could help out immensely with flashing and what not. Seems like a lot of progress was made on this phone in the last couple of days.

(btw, dont use twrp to flash my zips, they are made to work only with "fastboot update aosip.zip"
it sould work for magisk, etc however)

Thank you for the link and I'll definitely be installing your ROM when I have some free time to do everything backup restore yada yada

Still have to figure out the whole persist.img thing though

Just updated the the rom, had to reflash persist.img that I backed up. Fingerprint works great, it remembers my cellular settings (i force LTE only normally, and it was going back to 5G after a reboot).
Signal icon bug is still there where if you toggle "use old mobile type style" a couple of times it'll show LTE, 5G or whatever twice. Glad to ditch Oxygen OS.
