is the update from the same dev? or, based on the same 'trees'? if not, it'd be best to do a clean install, imho.

Well, I sure hope RR 8.6.5 and RR 8.6.9 are from the same dev xD
About the FW, they should both be from Xiaomi, right?
I disabled it, but the sensor itself is still malfunctioning when I test it in the app. The strange thing is that when I shine bright light into it, it deactivates, but then if I remove it, it activates again, and keeps "detecting" something in front of it.
I haven't done any firmware "upgrades" on mine, but make sure your firmware is for A10.
I found a thread, where they blame this behaviour on FW version 12.0.8.0, and I guess they didn't fix it in 12.0.9.0, but in one of the A11 FW updates that followed. So I'll downgrade to 12.0.7.0 and report back.

But this only applies to the stock miui rom. Is there anything like this menu in RR? Sounds very useful to have.
Yep, all problems with the proximity sensor disappeared as soon as I flashed 12.0.7.0 Global Firmware.
Haven't tried 12.0.8.0, but it's not global, but for EU, and from what I hear, that's where the problem originated. So I'd recommend changing the "recommended FW version" in the OP to 12.0.7.0

If you have a major bug to report that has not been reported already, please take the following steps to report it to us. It will save you, Team Resurrection Remix and me quite some time.
Download the MatLog app from the Play Store.
After downloading the MatLog app, go to the app settings, and change the log level to Debug.
Clear all previous logs and take the exact steps to produce the error you are receiving. As soon as you receive the error (probably a force close), go straight into MatLog and stop the log recording.
Copy and paste the entire log either to Hastebin or Pastebin
Save the log, and copy and paste the link into the thread with a brief description of the error.
