OK flashed it and upon early testing the stutter is still there. I will play around with enabling force vp9 codec and see if that helps.

I've noticed it happens even more frequently if I were watching a video, pause the video, then switch to a game while the video is in the back ground paused, then switched back to youtube from said game (but closing the game so it isn't open in the back ground).

Again thank you so much for taking the time and spending the effort to help me out with this YouTube stutter. And thanks for continually pushing to perfect lineage os on this phone. I personally, and many others as well, greatly appreciate your work.
Sorry to hear that. No problem.

Could you just flash this zip and report back?
I have same issue, and want try but am scared this is malware since not open source.

Can anyone check if this is malware?

I open zip and see stage fright is that not previous android malware?

Also see alot of different stuffs in there that can be hidden bugs.

sorry not to offend anyones, just very paranoid and concerned since I am not very good with these things and want to stay safe.

You don't need to. One tester was enough.

Of course it's not malware. And the one in official lineage zip was also prebuilt as well with me putting it in there from A720S stock rom since Samsung didn't give us open source code for that.

libstagefright is not the same as libstagefrighthw. And have you seen the date that bug was patched in android?

Im seeing a bit of a pattern develop now with the stutter, I'll keep playing around and see if I can gather more data. I'll reply back in a bit with a more concise write up to see if I can help you identify the issue.

One question, I just flashed the new weekly build via the lineage updater, does this wipe out the zip file you had me flash for testing?

Just curious if I needed to reflash it to continue testing.

Ok gps isn't working on this ROM, I was using Google maps and it wasn't able to consistently track the phone's location and the arrow was glitching all over the map. If you go to Google maps and request your location it'll be able to pin point it without an issue, the issue occurs when you start moving.

Lineage 17.1 didn't have any issues with gps so it's likely a 18.1 specific issue that needs to be addressed.
Same here: GPS is not working, no satellite fix since the last update (2th of September 2021).
Google maps can't find position.
The strange thing is: the app "GPS Status" can't find position but "GPSTest" (from F-Droid) can !?!?
Other strange thing is, that "GPSTest" only fix non-european satellites - but I am located in the middle of europe!

Any ideas?

Before the last update everything works fine!

There may be a problem with this ROM because my phone will reboot from time to time. You started doing this after the last updates! (Galaxy A5 2017)

Similar here.
Google Maps and open Streetmap find nothing, but Maingau Laden find the location immediately.

As a comparison, Google Maps on stock rom with locked device and after 2 minutes it moved my location to something completely wrong. I am inside though but it should be using other things to help the location.

Either way, that app is a bit of an issue on its own. In Google Maps, you can see a slide up panel at the very bottom on the basic opening map screen and it should show if your location accuracy is low or not. If its low, anything can happen. That can be the rom but since it shows low for me on stock, the app may be a part of the issue. I have location all accuracy settings enabled.

You can't have always perfect with something inherently complicated. Though if the rom or lineage messed up one of accuracy things, it could get gimped. But, eg you might not have wifi, etc. You could also disable something as well or a number of other things could happen.

Re: GPS issues

Haven't had any issues with GPS. GPSTest, Google Maps, etc, all work fine, even though I went from LOS 17.1 -> 18.1 without a clean flash (0 other issues, apart from the settings in the pull down crashing for the first little while). Might sound dumb, but try and replicate the GPS issues when in a field without a case on.

I say this, because people tend to forget that GPS, while really important, can also be picky. Try it away from tall buildings, outside, and with a clear line of sight to the sky. Even something like a tree can cause issues, and completely block the signal. case isn't super likely to cause it to not work, but it's worth trying.

Since your phone can still recognize your sim card, I think it's only a visual bug. Nothing to worry about. I personally never had this problem even on Los 18.1 test build. Clean flash with format data might solve your problem.

Got GPS to work, reset google maps cache, and you have to ensure the phone is mounted high on the dash where it has line of sight to the windshield. It seems that if there is bad weather or if the phone doesn't have line of sight to the windshield and thus the satelites it will not be able to function.

Just pulled blobs and merged kernel patches from this new Korean firmware A720SKSU5CUJ2. Should arrive in the next build. Yell at me if something breaks.
    3
Curious that only Korea update the firmware. Is A720 not A7? Is that the same hardware like A5 and does it mean we can update the firmware with that release?

In Korea, they released their variant of A7 2017 half a year later, and because of that it got android 9 and they are still updating it with security patches (although this one could be the last one). Since it is the same hardware, a bit unfair to the international users, I know.

This is also important for lineage because we take kernel source drops and proprietary blobs from those firmwares. So Samsung pretty much issued security updates for those.

Should you want to use that, you can. I ported and called it "Korea's rom" in the other thread.

Mic does not work when speaker-phone is turned on during VOIP like whatsapp and others. Flashed on a clean wipe. Any ideas what's going on. Tried editing the XML's but no dice.
@Simon1511 has fixed this. Will arrive in the next build.

@Option58 Finally have a build machine again. Its not my patch so can't sign off on it but it fixes the TcpSocketTracker crashes you see all the time in the logcat outputs (at least on my devices).

TcpSocketTracker: Opt-out for TCP info parsing on legacy kernels
This feature requires netlink features that are unsupported on
kernel versions lower than 4.4, therefore opt-out for it in such
cases and avoid constantly crashing TcpSocketTracker.

    I found it here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...8-1-for-samsung-galaxy-s5-klte.4209545/page-2

    The patch is here https://github.com/DerpFest-11/pack...mmit/22fd53a977eeaf4e36be7bf6358ecf2c2737fa5e

I appreciate your input, but you should have also paid attention to this reply. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...g-galaxy-s5-klte.4209545/page-2#post-84211415

What I'm trying to tell you is that it's not my choice. Merging that would merge it for all the other lineageos devices. Probably needs a kernel side fix.

    LineageOS 18.1 Official for Galaxy A5|7 2017

    Lineage_OS_Logo_Wiki_main.jpg

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11 (r), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

    Code:
    /*
    * Your warranty is now void.
    *
    * I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
    * thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
    * do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
    * before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
    * you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
    */

LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit Gerrit Code Review.

    FAQ
    Help my sim doesn't work
Please read the installation instructions more carefully. Oreo firmware bootloader and modem is a must.
You can find the collection along with the guide in THIS xda thread.

I'm sometimes having crackling sound when listening to music
Turn off 'ok google now' functionality in google app settings. If you have troubles finding it you can as well go to settings>apps, find app called 'google' and disable microphone permission.

    Does this rom support VoLTE?
No. And it likely won't in the near future. Samsung's exynos VoLTE implementation is proprietary and non-standard. It is not possible on AOSP based roms for the time being.

    My camera flash doesn't work
This is an issue with the camera app. Just tap to focus anywhere and it will start working.

    My device fails to encrypt
    1. You were likely using older TWRP, update to the latest version
    2. Backup your data somewhere (external sd, pc...)
    3. In TWRP Advanced -> Format data.

My hardware keys light up whenever I touch the screen
Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Illuminate buttons only when pressed'. You might want to reduce time on the scaler to 1 second, too.

How to switch to full screen gestures
    1. Navigate to Settings->System->Buttons->Backlight and tick 'Enable on-screen nav bar'.
    2. Navigate to Settings->System->Gestures->System navigation and tick 'Gesture navigation'.

    New build up!

This one is huge. The changelog list is big and I've probably fixed more bugs in the previous 7 days than I did in the past 6 months.
Lineage 17.1 for this device is getting better and a lot of bugs are squashed now. We can now declare this a beta!

All the changes for this build are now properly sorted and merged-in. You can easily find everything at github.com/LineageOS, build the rom yourselves and contribute with new code, if you are able to.

    • Beta 3.0
      • Pulled RIL blobs from G965F Q firmware (more modern, fixes signal strength)
      • Fixed issues with connecting to RILD (fixes in-call volume, fixes echo in calls)
      • Updated GPS blobs from A720S P firmware (better signal, we are actually able to acquire a lock)
      • Updated fingerprint blobs from A720S P firmware (works more reliably, dropped all hacks)
      • Pulled sensors from A720F O firmware (cleaner)
      • Updated DRM to support Widevine L1
      • More HALs are binderized
      • Build FlipFlap (a flip cover app)
      • Fully written and enforced selinux policy
      • Latest LineageOS sources

    https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=304603
    17
Also I've just updated my sources so you can fully build the rom again.

I've tested some roms like PixelExperience today on my device. It's not bad with the added 'google' feel to it. Later I might test RR and others.
All that I'm asking from both developers and users is please be clear that these roms are based on LineageOS. Meaning that most of the hard work that actually got them to work was done here, on LineageOS. And unfortunately most of the issues they are facing as well :p Work was done by RaymanFX, forkbomb, and in the latest days by me. Not respecting this makes me less motivated to keep working on the device.

    Cheers :highfive:
