Hey so, i recently got a Mi9 and decided to do a system change, however, it wasn't as smooth as other devices.
After waiting 7 days, i got my Bootloader unlocked, and i managed to flash TWRP, however, file names were garbled, and ADB Sideload would act up, i managed to bypass that and flash the ZIP via sideload, but i still can't boot into the system. It goes straight to Fastboot after the Redmi logo appears, along with the Unlocked Padlock at the top.

Sure i can use the Xiaomi Flash tool and revert the system but i don't want to use MIUI, i want to use AOSP / Something Pixel-like

Any ideas how to fix that? My phone was runnning MIUI 12.0.10.0 QJOEUXM, but the TWRP for 12.0.8.0 apparently worked fine, along with the vbmeta provided.

I don't wanna unbrick it by reinstalling MIUI, i want to use a custom ROM.

EDIT:Had to re-flash MIUI to unbrick, and now, trying to flash that ROM, it seems like it will always get stuck before even starting any steps (It just show PPUI and nothing else).

What is the secret to flash a ROM in this device?

So I flashed this rom yesterday after getting my bootloader unlock and it went pretty smooth. For those who are facing problems while flashing, you must be missing something as it has a few more steps than normal flashing.

I used SHRP recovery and it flashed with no errors.

I was on latest MIUI Indian version so I downgrade to MIUI 12.0.3 Global before flashing.

I then rooted it with magsik. Safety net is working fine. And the device is encrypted.

Great rom, will update this after using it for a while. But the overall work is great. Highly appreciated. 👍

If you are facing some issues you can ask me for a detailed procedure.

Let me know when you find a way to go forward, I'm on stable MIUI 12 and I find these initial threads (root / twrp) a little confusing.

already use this ROM for 3 days and no issues about the bugs etc. but i have some problem , how do i root with this ROM ? i already tried to root it with Magisk 20.3 but it just bricked my phone instead . and is there any GCam 6.x version that i can use for this ROM ? i tried to install GCam 6.1 because of the stock camera that ROM provided is too dummy but it can't install for some reason .
I would suggest you to install anxcamera using magisk, installing camera apks didn't work for me (could not use my other lenses, no video capture, and so on).

Here's how to install:
First of all, install magisk:
* unzip this ROM, get your boot.img and patch-it using magisk app, flash your patched boot
in magisk:
** Add the 2 modules included in this comment (I flashed the 48MPFIx file first, just so you know)

MOD EDIT: Link Removed

That's all. By far this is the best camera app for this ROM (and maybe for every android 11 ROM for this phone)

PD: All the credit goes to the folks from ANX (https://camera.aeonax.com/), also, all those files come from their site.
PD2: You can also download those files there, just trying to save people some time

Give it a try

I want to ask something, as you guys all know, there is no official twrp recovery for merlin, there are only unofficial links on xda, so can someone please comment with an xda link with a "tried and tested build of twrp" for merlin. Please understand that if you yourself haven't used the mentioned twrp, then please don't link it here. Sorry if I am offending anyone.

Solution for rebooting, not waking up and etc bug after updating to 3.9.
    1. Download any firmware update from here https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/merlin/ (I downloaded the EU)
    2. Drop the zip in your phone and reboot into recovery
    3. Flash the zip using TWRP, wiping the dalvik cache is not required. just press reboot.
    4. Done :)
Yes! I updated this morning to PPUI 3.10 and had the reboot issue as well. Updated the firmware to Global in my case (South Africa) and it's been about 20 minutes without the sleep / reboot happening.

Okay I am confused, the firmware in the link is MIUI 12.5 not Pixel plus ui
Firmware and ROM are different things, firmware is more like drivers and etc. Your PixelPlusUI Rom won't be affected by flashing a firmware. :)

NOTE: It is STRONGLY recommended to fully wipe your device before flashing and please avoid restoring system apps and system data with Titanium Backup (or with any backup/restore app) as this can cause stability issues that are very hard to debug, restoring regular apps is fine.
If you believe you know what you're doing - then fine, go ahead, but please don't complain if you experience any strange behavior.

This is encouraging. I did make an effort to look for 12.03 global. Do you have a dl link handy?
You can just downgrade the vendor before installing the rom.
Basically just flash this before the rom and it should install

Thanks @woahitspaulo, I tried a PBRP recoveries as well with little success, but this is a nice succinct summary of the steps. To install Magisk I extracted the boot.img contained in the release zip file, patched it via the Magisk app and flashed it again with
    Code:
    fastboot flash boot ./patched_boot.img
    .

And big thanks to @Evan_Ferrao, @sourav24071999 and the rest of the PPUI team! My phone runs much better now and I look forward to future updates of the ROM :D
Well many more stable and efficient builds coming soon ❤️ keep supporting
