My op8 has an issue with tha last official version 11 of pe plus. The 3 volume button does not work when the screen is off. Does anyone have the same issue?

I'm daily driving this Android 11 Pixel Experience and I must say, it is good. Even Google Pay works! There are minor glitches with the fingerprint reader and the screen rotation and some times apps hangs for like 10s and then starts work like normal. It works really really well, and if the dev fixes these 2 bugs it runs exactly like a Pixel
You can literarily get unlimited google photos with it aswell.

Whyd you take out Google camera??? I just installed the new update today and now it's gone..

May update installed OK for me, but why has the gcam app that was working perfectly been removed?! Now we've got some basic camera app that does not use the wide angle lens.

After several hours of installing different camera apps and XML configs, I eventually found one that works - https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/f/dl0/ (the first one on that list - Snap_GCam)

I flashed it but could'nt pass the safety net on Magisk.
I installed the props module and configured it on a terminal.
Anyone has an idea?

Thank you. No, I did not, I learned something new.
I was sitting past midnight trying to read up on what the heck was going on.
Google could have made it a little more simplified to indicate which mode is which and the command to enter and switch between them.

Like "fastboot reboot fastboot" for most people look like a 1x1=1 i.e. rebooting the phone to the same mode you are currently in.
Later I also discovered that you can enter fastbootd via gui; Boot to fastboot>Use volume buttons to scroll to Recovery mode>User power button to select>Advanced>Enter fastboot> and the blue pill above will now say "Fastbootd mode".

Both ways are very discrete and the recovery is too 100% made to trick me the button does a normal reboot to fastboot/bootloader.

The rom is stable and way more responsive and handle ram better than oxygen rom, its one thing I got very irritated by.
I have 12GB ram but the ram management in stock rom decides to discard apps and redraw them, that's why I modified the ram management.
I got Magisk Canary working, patched the boot.img from the payload and flashed it in fastboot, sadly Fingerprint sensor is disabled after flashing Magisk. It was working when I set up the rom on first boot.
I can probably live with this a while, its the first rom we have and its such an improvement over oxygen os.




Edit: (forgot to mention some additional things)

Gesture navigation is working perfectly, this is another thing that bugged me on stock rom, enabling gesture navigation and having all animations at 0 is very glitchy swiping up to either go home, or open recent apps.
It just won't register the gesture 90% of times, so I went back with the normal navigation bar.
In this app, its excellent. Nothing to complain about, it registers the gesture right the way even if I do just more my fingers starting the gesture ever so slightly.


OSD layout is exactly as it should be.
I am used to having small size on letters and dpi, currently using "Smallest width" = 528.
Volume button OSD are just the right size, Power menu is about the size I want too.
On Oxygen os these overlays even though I set my font size and dpi low the size never changes on these, they are always the same size which is the most annoying this about stock rom.
Changing volume watching a video puts an overlay that covers almost half of the screen...

And on top of that, the famous input delay when holding down the volume buttons.

Lowest volume step is way to high in some apps, and some not..I am not sure if I am going crazy but it feels like volume is increasing by its own.
In Tiktok volume is so loud I have to mute the speaker in panic late at night and put my finger over the speaker grill.
In youtube its almost like its very quiet.
To explain, Mute = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.
Volume level 0 is muted and level 1 is the lowest volume you can get.
But volume level 1 is way to loud to be the lowest volume level step.

I tried to deactivate MusicFX apk but did nothing.
Current workaround is to having Viper4Android and changing master power with -10.5db output gain and -3db threshold limit.

I will upload logs later. Perhaps I will try to get a decibel meter reading too so we have some scientific data to correlate with.
Not sure if I'm gonna keep the rom or not, volume is a big issue, cant have a boombox in the middle of the night.
Its an issue on stock rom too but not this bad.

Thank you for the detailed information. Many of these comparisons are things I'm irritated with on Oxygen, and while not make or break of course, I'm happy that this ROM is an out of the box fix! Downloading now!

    If you are rooted with magisk you can use riru lsposed + xprivacylua magisk hide to get safteynet working (my OP8 is on the July patch due to no updates yet).

    The only major downside to this method is it will break google call screening. You can re enable it but 3-4$ donation is required to enable the manage hook assignments feature.
    I dont need magisk and dont want it either

    Instructions to flash PE ROM for OnePlus 8/ 8T (All thanks to @FizzyApps and @ChandraChaganti ) *YOUR BOOTLOADER SHOULD BE UNLOCKED* :-
    1. Flash OOS 11 on both slots (Use local upgrade option).
    2. Check using this app if u have OOS on slot_b:-
    3. Download Pixel experience ROM using this link:-
    4. Download and install Python3 on ur PC (This is a windows link) *TICK THE ADD PYTHON TO PATH OPTION*:-
    5. Download payload dumper and extract its zip:-
    6. The Pixel Experience ROM should be on ur PC (and be on ur PC now).
    7. Now extract the Pixel Experience ROM.
    8. Put the "payload.bin" file from the extracted ROM file to payload dumper/payload_input
    9. Run payload dumper.exe
    10. Wait for all files to be extracted.
    11. Now install adb and fastboot drivers:-
    12. Extract the adb and fastboot drivers zip and place them in adb folder (create one) in ur local disk on ur PC
    13. Now go to payload dumper/ payload_output folder
    14. Click shift+ right click on mouse.
    15. A menu will appear on the screen of ur PC.
    16. Click on "Open command window here".
    17. Now reboot ur phone to fastboot mode by powering off ur phone then, holding power+ both the volume buttons.
    18. Now connect ur OP8T to ur PC via usb cable.
    19. Now be on ur PC and type "fastboot devices" in command window.
    20. Ur device will show up.
    21. Now do all these commands one by one (Click enter after every command):-
    "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
    "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
    "fastboot flash dtbo dtbo.img"
    "fastboot --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img"
    "fastboot --disable-verity flash vbmeta_system vbmeta_system.img"
    "fastboot reboot fastboot"
    "fastboot flash system system.img"
    "fastboot flash product product.img"
    "fastboot flash system_ext system_ext.img"
    22. Now on ur OP8T click on reboot to recovery.
    23. Go to factory reset and click yes.
    24. Reboot to system.
    25. Done! Enjoy Pixel experience ROM on ur OP8T 😉.

    why does it have to be done that way thru adb? maybe twrp flashable to come because i doubt I'll try to install it that way. I'm excited by the prospect of the rom very much but I'll let a few guinea pigs go first and keep tabs on this. Is the lack of custom rom development because developers are waiting for android 11 or what? One of the main reasons I decided on OP8 was because i thought the forum would be very active and its been kinda disappointing thus far. Does anyone know when theres gonna be the official android 11 update not this open beta bullshit? also when an official twrp recovery?
    First of all, it has to be flashed through Fastboot because TWRP for Android 10 isn't really finished yet, devs have a hard time finding ways to comply with Android 10 new system, that's why there are a lot of those Fastboot ROMs.
    Second of all, those "Guinea Pigs" are users that allows OP to release the official OOS build you're eager to have. You just wait for it to come and you call users who report bugs "Guinea Pigs"... Remember that those who install Open Betas are the ones that make this phone not a crappyy pile of bugs bad glitches, and represent the "active community" you're complaining of rn. Get off you high horse man...
    Finally, the "lack of development" is indeed partially because devs are waiting for Android 11, and it has always been like that for every newly released OP phone. Once they age a bit that's when the amazing community comes together to build, to TEST, and finally release ROMs.

    How to install magisk on pixel experience rom?
    Get extracted boot.img and put into phone, open magisk and patch boot.img. Magisk outputs a patched boot.img in downloads. Transfer to pc where ADB lives, reboot to bootloader and enter fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img. Should flash to phone and Magisk has given root.
