[ROM][11][RAPHAEL] PixelExperience Normal/Plus [AOSP]

Hi all.
Thanks a lot for the work that allows me to still use my phone without all the bloatware from Xiaomi.
I'm currently running the latest 12 plus edition (from 28 may) and having 2 issues for which I'm not finding solution despite my investigations here. Probably my search skills are not perfect and I'll continue searching but asking for help in the meantime.
1. The open camera app do not allow to really use device hardware (wide angle). I've tried installing GCam from PlayStore but it's crashing when opening. Is there something I missed ?
2. I'm facing quite a huge battery drain, this device was usable for almost 2 days with my usage before and now I have difficulties to not load it after the end of the first day even with the battery saving activated. Is it common ?

Thank you in advance for any piece of information that could help me going forward.

1. Use ANXCamerav185 instead (ported original Xiaomi cam with framework) or use a GCam Hack (https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/), I am using UltraM8 Cam (https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-UltraM8/) but that may be subjective preferences.

2. Read back, seems to be a typical problem.
What rom are you on? Normal or Plus?
AFAIK the Kernel files haven't been released by Xiaomi, so every A12 port is running an unofficial kernel hack (or however it will be called). But my infos are a few weeks old. Stoll running A10 myself thinking about updating every now and then)
Also: Clean or Dirty Update?

Thank you very much for the information about the GCam app, I've went for that and seems all is working (at least from what I expect as a smartphone).

For the battery drain, I updated recently to the latest update and it's a bit better while far from what I had with the stock ROM. But I also think that the stock ROM was forcing too much application to be put on hold and facing some synchronization issues with background apps.
I'm currently using the Plus version 12.1.

Yeah, same problem for me. Coming from RROS, and I wasn't even able to switch between firefox and my auth app to obtain a OTP Key ... Firefox was closed within seconds.

You may want to check "cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/charge_full" with any terminal app (incl. root) for some kind of "battery health". Mine was showing 228200, which seems to mean I have a rest capacity from 2282mAh ... No wonder the "Drain" is so high.
After deciding the next rom will for sure purchase a replacement battery asap.
I am running accubattery to crosscheck the battery health. But I don't know which is more accurate.

I'm not having this issue and I assume you made sure you're running the latest stable firmware for your region?

Have you tried what's mentioned in this post?

Thank you very much for this great ROM! I do have a problem though which I assume is due to me running my phone in encrypted mode (which I'd like to keep doing). I recently switch from PE 12 non-plus to PE 12 plus (2022/05/28) by means of a (non-dirty) fresh install using the latest official European firmware. Yet both versions----plus and non-plus----show the same behavior:

After booting into the OS, I'm asked to enter my SIM card's PIN as usual. Upon doing so, the phone sais that Android is starting up with the horizontal status indicator doing its thing, but of course it can't accomplish anything because it's still missing the phone's PIN in order to properly decrypt the data partition. Nevertheless, it's not asking for the PIN. At this point I'll have to wait until the screen goes off or turn it off manually. If I then turn it back on, the lock screen is already offering me the option to unlock the phone using my finger print. Of course, that doesn't work either without access to the encrypted data. Instead I have to swipe and use my PIN to unlock the phone and only then will it be able to properly access the data. From then on, everything is working fine.

I know how to do this, but it's very confusing for less tech-savy people. In fact, this bug is the only thing which prevents me from flashing this ROM onto the phones of my family members. So I'd really appreciate you looking into this bug. Please let me know in case there's anything I can do to help! Thank you very much!

Hi,
I'm currently running the last V12 ROM May update Plus edition on my 9T Pro.
Everything works perfectly, you really did a great job, except for the earpiece volume on call which is really too low.

I googled a lot, looking for solutions. However none of these worked for me.

How can I increase the maximum volume on call?

Thank you in advance!

Whenever someone picks up the call, increase the volume using buttons. Have you tried doing that?

Tried the latest version that was posted yesterday and then removed.
Clean flash, data formatted but first boot ended in Fastboot.
Restored to the MIUI version , and tried again ad it once again ended in Fastboot. :(
Frustrating, not sure why.

This version was removed because of a fatal error, bootlooping when Magisk was installed. It should now be fixed with the recently published build.

For anybody stuck,

**IMPORTANT**

The August 2022 PE12 build requires FBEv2 recovery to install the ROM. Clean Flash (Wipe and Format Data) is mandatory.

Official recoveries will not work. The builds below are necessary (linked from Telegram group)
OrangeFox

Update: Due to the recoveries themselves being still in beta, some problems might pop up. TWRP has been causing problems with files in certain apps (e.g. Telegram). It is recommended to use OrangeFox in the meantime. When switching, clean flash is needed again (important to wipe and format data).

Edit: Removed TWRP link.

Hope this helps! 😀

I'm not sure if official recoveries on TWRP and OFox is FBEv2 or not. The builds below will work (linked from Telegram group)

Thanks jamjam.

Are you able to decrypt files during recovery mode using these recoveries? Or files appears all gibberish?

When April Update comes? Eagerly waiting for bug fix update.
Is rude asking a person who does this as a hobby, for free, and takes away from their family time when they will be finished making something. It makes the person asking seem like they are owed something or is entitled. This is why it is disrespectful and rude to ask when the next release (ETA) is coming. Like everyone else in this thread, we grab a seat, help who we can and wait patiently for the developer to freely give of his art.

    Hello everybody!

I have this doubt: Years ago I was a regular user of many ROMs on my different Android devices including an old Asus tablet and it was something that I enjoyed and that entertained me a lot.

A couple of weeks ago after several years without using custom ROMs, I installed this ROM but after a few hours, I returned to the original version of MIUI. The reason, a friend told me about the possibility of theft of bank information and passwords. That worried me a bit so I preferred to return to MIUI.

It's not a malfunctioning system but I love stock Android and how clean the system is.

I am not questioning here the reliability of the Rom developer, I just want your opinion as users regarding whether data leakage is possible, the use of back doors, or the inclusion of malware in the system. I know the source code is available but it is a huge amount of code to review.

Again, I just want to know how safe an official custom ROM is. I understand that the original systems send usage data but my main concern is this type of information (Banks and passwords).

    Thanks for your help!
I would rather trust an open-source project like PixelExperience than closed-source MIUI that has built-in apps that cannot be uninstalled, you can't restrict their internet access, and they require you to agree to some shady terms of use, data collection etc.

I did some testing with firewall app Blokada; MIUI, even after debloating (removing) most of their preinstalled apps, constantly sends some data to domains like xiaomi.net and AWS.

On AOSP ROMs, with flashed Gapps, I've noticed that my phone was connecting to google servers once in a while; probably because it was syncing something in the background or something else related to google services.

On AOSP ROMs without Gapps installed nothing is being sent. That's what I personally like to use because I don't want my phone to send any data when I don't use it and the phone is sitting in my pocket. I don't have banking apps installed because it is easy to have your phone lost or stolen. For banking you can just use you bank's website. It should automatically log you off.

That is the safest route, but for some people it may be too much, especially when they're so dependent on Google.

tl;dr ---> Using MIUI doesn't make your phone particularly safer. You just have to believe that their proprietary system and preinstalled apps aren't malicious, and they can't remotely connect to your phone and withdraw all of your money.
Custom ROMs are safe as long as they're well-known in the Android community and downloaded from official sources, or even better, built by yourself.

What is the difference between the normal version and the plus version?
You can get extra functionalities like Status Bar Network Traffic Monitor, Battery Indicator and Battery Percentage in the Plus version. But in the normal version you won't get them.
