Hello all! My daily phone, a OnePlus 8, was damaged in a hurricane last week, but luckily I had my backup RP2 safely stored away, which I dug out and flashed the latest Lineage OS, but it had too many issues (lagging interface, GPS unable to lock, stock camera crashing). I decided to give PixelExperience a try, and I really like it! Thanks Alcatraz323!
So far, everything is working great. It's fast, smooth, and every app works flawlessly. After getting Magisk installed, I disabled some background apps/services to improve the battery life, which is now almost as good as the stock ROM.
I disabled the following:
Google Play Services for AR
Personal Safety
Digital Wellbeing
Adaptive brightness
Ambient display
Set refresh to 60hz
However, I am having the same issue with the microphone pickup as some other people.
Here's how I tested:
I placed calls from my phone's SIM # to my Google Voice # on my computer with high quality headphones on. I tried with adaptive sound in settings both on and off:
Speakerphone Off
- spoke into the lower mic very closely, I could hear my voice OK
- spoke into the lower mic farther away, I could not hear my voice
- spoke into the upper mic close and far, no voice
Speakerphone On
- spoke into the lower mic closely, voice loud but distorted
- spoke into the lower mic farther away, voice good
- spoke into the upper mic closely, voice loud but distorted
- spoke into the upper mic farther away, voice good
- spoke to the phone from across the room, voice low but could understand
I did some digging and found a thread with a similar issue & fix:
If you are in a call and the other person hears himself or noises when the top mic is touched, by hair or hat..., you can try this: [ROOT needed] Edit this file: \vendor\etc\mixer_paths_overlay_static.xml find this sections:
forum.xda-developers.com
I made a backup copy of mixer_paths_tavil.xml and added the 3 lines suggested in the 1st post, then restarted my phone. I then made a call to myself and the microphone now works perfectly in handset mode! Loud and clear, no matter how close or far my mouth is to the microphones!! It's a bit better in speakerphone mode too, but not much. You can play around with the 3 values and set to your liking.
I used Root Explorer to copy, paste, and adjust permissions, and Notepad on PC to edit. Attached is the edited version of mixer_paths_tavil.xml that I am now using.
Thanks again for a great ROM, Alcatraz323!
