As a result of this, the PBL (Primary Bootloader) will load XBL (Secondary Bootloader) no matter which one you choose to flash. This change has only been introduced with the Android 12 firmware [OxygenOS 12/ColorOS 12]. Till Android 11, both the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro firmwares were shipped with a single bootloader and it was either aimed at LPDDR5 or LPDDR4X RAM.

However, with OxygenOS 12, OnePlus now ships both the DDR4 and DDR5 in the same firmware package. Digging a little bit into the technicalities, the DDR5 RAM uses lower voltage compared to DDR4X. So when you end up unintentionally flashing the DDR4 package on DDR5, then the latter will get the voltage way beyond its permissible limit. As a result of which, it would end up killing the motherboard!

You tell me :)

DO NOT FLASH GAPPS, ALREADY INCLUDED

VvzRh0K.png

First Time Install / Clean Flash

⚠️ IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FLASH THE CORRECT LPDDR FW FOR YOUR DEVICE...... Else you will end up in a non-recoverable hardbrick and I will not take responsibility for anyone who does ⚠️

1. Be on the latest Evolution X 6.5 (OOS11) based build (June 2022 releases)

2. using adb/adb shell run, getprop ro.boot.ddr_type (0=LPDDR4 & 1=LPDDR5)

3. Reboot to recovery

4. When in recovery, go to advanced -> enter fastboot (this is fastbootd)

5. Update FW to EU C20 by downloading the FW ZIP that matches your device & LPDDR version (do not reboot)

6. Go back to recovery from fastbootd (do not reboot!)

7. Sideload latest Evolution X 6.6 build (OOS12) based build (July 2022 releases)

8. Format data & reboot

Update / Dirty Flash
1. Boot into recovery
2. adb sideload BUILD.zip
3. Reboot to system & #KeepEvolving

KEEP IN MIND THERE IS ALSO OTA UPDATES!

I'm confused.
Did I follow now the first install Instructions or can I use the update instructions to update my phone without losing data.

I don't want to setup everything new because I did that two days ago...

If you're on the oplus alpha, then I think you can just follow the dirty flash instructions, but to move from the oos11 to oos12 oplus firmware, it's defo going to need a clean flash.

I got a OnePlus 8 EU and on June 2022 update

Did you try to skip the step 8?
I mean to only reboot the phone without format data. Will the system boot it anyway?

Do you mean you're on evo-x 6.6 alpha builds, in which case you just need to follow the intructions on the first post for a dirty flash, or are you on OOS12 itself?

I'm on evo-x 6.5 and want to follow the clean install instructions to update to 6.6 but I don't wipe data in step 8.
Will the system boot it anyway?

Anyone has a problem with SIM card after latest update 6.6? After clean update using the instruction, system booting normal but the phone does not see the SIM card.

So after second try of clean install it is the same issue, phone detects number from SIM card but i cannot call or send text messages same like I'll be stuck in "flight mode" is it any fix on that or I'm doing something wrong? btw on 6.5 everything working fine.

I have!

I usually do this:

1.) be rooted
2.) download the rsync binary and make it executable
3.) make a Titanium-, Signal- and Threema Backup to the SD folder
3.) rsync the whole /storage/emulated/0 folder to an external USB-C NVme SSD (I use a Terminal emulator and call a "rsync -av")

After the full wipe I can sync the folder back from the SSD and restore the backups. Still some work to be done but way better than a copy over MTP to a PC.
