I never managed to reach the built-in recovery with the following method:

after multiple tries, maybe I'm just dumb. I ended up using ArrowOS recovery instead to sideload the ROM.

So far so good, everything seems to work normally.

You can use a substratum theme like Swift Black or Flux. Both work on Android 12, although many apps / UI parts aren't themed for now.

I noticed that too. You can use this Magisk module as a workaround.
