bricked my phone trying to update with the updater app. I advise everyone to avoid it for the time being.
tried to unbrick it with sp tool but chose "format all + download" and now its hard bricked. doesnt respond to any button or combo. any advice?

Edit: after being connected to charger for a while it started bootlooping again (the battery wasnt dead) recovered it using force flash with sp flash tool "upgrade firmware" mode.

I was using the twrp you mentioned. The whole point of ota is that it cannot be done wrong, isnt it? i pressed download then install. what's there to do wrong?

My phone was bricked too using this twrp messed up everything now I'm back to zero after flashing the stock rom too

Edit:. It started with installing the ota, the phone rebooted to twrp recovery. When ota finished installing trying to reboot to system it gave an error no os installed. 'cant mount system/root... block device required.

Tried to go back to orange fox recovery, then the bootloop started.

Perhaps your ROM was somehow modified by you. I check all OTA updates myself, I did not receive any bricks.
You can try to use this recovery 3.4.2b. (This is not my recovery, taken from the Russian-language forum 4pda) But I use it too.
In the telegram channel, no one complained about this, and as I said, I am testing OTA updates myself, everything is going well.

Greetings smart people,

I just got this redmi9 from my brother. Phone is usable at the moment.

I want to:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash Twrp + rom lineages

My problem is i cant get the phone to enter fastboot mode (bootloader hasn't been unlocked yet). While the phone turned off, holding voldown + power button, will not go into fastboot, it will just reboot back to miui.

Is this softbricked or something?

ok. so far i hv successfully

1. unlocked the bootloader,
2. flash twrp using command,
3. then, to reboot to recovery, i cant use command normally. it just show options what to do.
4. iv used "fastboot reboot recovery". nothing happened.
5. so use power button to shut down, then immediately enter recovery using VOLUP+Power.
6. then backup the vbmeta, transfer to laptop.

i am stuck at turning AVB mechanism off

unrecognised option `--disable-verity'

Can we flash the update in recovery?

If some1 is struggling with recovery constantly being replaced by the stock recovery please try fastbooting SHRP > tweaks > [MIUI] Disable Replace SHRP.
This should be solved by 'fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta your_name_vbmeta.img' but didn't in my case.
Did the whole ROM installing process with SHRP flawlessly.

Just installed the rom, works great.
Only issue i have (for now at least lol) is that on the latest lineage 19.1 build videos that are 1080p on newpipe and vlc lag a lot.
The same videos dont lag on the default gallery app
