I only assumed the new kernel would be included in the next release as the OP told us to give it a try.
Also he mentioned some workaround to get the launcher running smooth again.
That's why I'm awaiting the next release.
I'm already on the official A12 OOS.

For me, after installing the new kernel it is much better but after some time (let's say one-two days) without reboots it starts to slow down a bit. E.g., unlocking animation is slow, some images are loading slow etc. Reboot helps. So probably some memory management. I also am eagerly waiting for the next release.

Can anyone explain about what's the deal with the new kernel and why does it perform better? How do you know it will be included in the next build but some already installed in the current build, is it the same?

I cannot find any references to the kernel in the installation instructions:

I still have the Pixel Experience 12 installed and I'd like to upgrade when is at least as stable as the one I have.

Thanks.

I flashed the new kernel after flashing the current 13 Plus release, according to OPs instructions earlier in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...experience-aosp.4401291/page-13#post-87746751

I never tried PE12 but the PE 13 beta was running very smoothly for me and with the new kernel the 13 Plus Edition is also pretty smooth at least for now.

2 questions please :
- Can we upgrade from version 13 to version 13 (Plus edition) ? -via sideload-
- What does version 13 (Plus edition) bring in terms of functionalities ?.

Thanks.

Yes you can just dirty flash Plus Edition over regular, no wipe needed. Be sure to flash the new kernel that OP posted several comments above.

Some features I noticed are screen-off gestures like OOS, customizable mute slider, optional quick settings toggle for cellular and wifi (instead of the basic "internet" setting), three finger swipe to screenshot, network speed monitor, probably several other smaller improvements. I was on the 13 beta before so can't tell if the following features are Plus Edition exclusive or simply are not in the beta but I also notices customizable auto rotation, better auto brightness, fast notification pull down, customizable power-off menu.

Just wanted to let you know. Today I installed the test release of kernel from Telegram channel and it is working amazingly well. No stuttering and lags so far.

Has anyone else faced call volume settings issues? I seem to be unable to adjust the call volume when in a call, the volume levels moves in the UI but the call volume stays at max, both on speaker and through the earpiece

Beyond one single bug (screen brightness/flickering when on dark mode) the latest build is solid. Have first dirty flashed over previous release and that lead to stuttering and lagginess.

Having read OP's fix re the Pixel Launcher and having flashed the recommended kernel system is solid, no lag and I've also been getting really good battery life out of the device. Idle battery drain is very small (<1% per hour) and getting really good Screen On Time also.

My thanks and congratulations to OP for a very solid, daily driver level ROM! It certainly breathed fresh life into my OP7TPro after having waited ages for OnePlus to bring out A12-based ROM (which was a big disappointment, once it arrived).

Thanks for the review.
Will make the switch from original OOS 12 once the next version is released.

What do you mean by "reset box"? If you mean the recovery then no, there's no way to do OTA or local updates at the moment as far as I know. You have to flash it through the recovery but there is no need to do factory reset before or wipe after flashing.

Me too. Fed up with two major issues with notifications in Oneplus' stock OOS 12.
I'd be very grateful if someone could inform me on how this ROM handles two specific notifications cases. That's because it appears that both cases aren't only annoying on stock OOS 12 on the Oneplus 7 series, but also on at least series 8 and 9. Therefore it might be by Oneplus design. If the dev of PE uses Oneplus' ROM as a basis (I don't know), it might be in here too.

Case 1: notifications on the lockscreen are absent or incomplete at best. So notifications in the AOD and in the notification shade when unlocked are totally missing from the lockscreen. Is this also the case in PE?

Case 2: grouped notifications behavior. Tapping on the upper red part (image below) of a grouped notification should open the associated app directly. Tapping on the lower blue part should expand the notification. Oneplus has since OOS 12 chosen the behavior to expand the notification no matter where you tap, removing the option to open the app directly. Which behavior is in PE?

So, I've flashed the november 29 release of 13 Plus on my 7T Pro.

I was on the official A12 firmware before so it was a clean install.
Some quick observations:
- It hides root very well! All of my banking apps and even Google Pay are working!
I didn't need to flash Magisk + Universal SafetyNet Fix for this :)
Very well done!
- Fingerprint reader works just as good as the original A12 rom
- It has all the bells and whistles of a original Pixel phone
- There is no nagging screen about the bootloader being unlocked when I turn on my phone
- Bluetooth carkit stuff seems to work just fine
- All of my company's Microsoft apps (Teams, Outlook, Authenticator etc) are still working

The only small nitpick I found is that Widevine CDM seems to switch to L3.
I've verified it was L1 when I was still on the original OOS A12.
But I don't really care as L3 still gives you 720p/1080p on Netflix, which is more than enough for me.

Hats off !

Thank you so much for answering my questions!!

Case 1: Lockscreen shows full notifications (configurable for privacy), AOD/inactivity display only shows icons except the moment the notification comes in, then it will briefly show the full notification.

Case 2: tapping anywhere (blue or red) opens the app, tapping the little number and arrow on the right or pulling down on the notification expands the stack.

Oh that is just great news, the way it should work. Thank you very much for checking that out for me!!

    Thanks a lot bro!
    I appreciate the hard work!

So should we uninstall the Android System Intelligence before applying the new rom?

Or is there a way to verify the lag spike is gone after applying the ROM update?

No, because the kernel update didn't solve the automatic screen brightness (and flickering) issue, I assume we need a new ROM version to solve this.
This is an issue of OOS 12 firmware the PE is based on. Recently OP released the new OOS 12 update which apparently fixed the issue. Whenever OP releases kernel source code it will be updated in this rom as well

One more thing, anyone experiencing video playback problems? For example firefox and Mastodon won't play videos at all, while chrome and youtube apps play them fine. I read some other users have similar problems so curious to confirm?

After a week on 7T Pro 1913, PE 29.11.2022 + kernel 1.2, everything runs fantastic and smooth, only noticed issues:
    * Aforementioned video playback
    * Wild screen brightness adjustment (just disabled it and change manually)
    * Minor issues but it's noticable when the screen switches from 90 to 60 Hz, the brightness changes very slightly. Can't remember experiencing that on OOS. Keeping screen on 90Hz or 60Hz all the time eliminates this problem.
    * This may be subjective, but it feels like the battery is draining a bit faster than on OOS11, could be simply due to battery display/calibration or simply me playing with it more. I have not tried kernel 1.1 before so I can't compare, but it certainly lasts more than a day anyway so it's not an issue for me.
There is a stable version 1.3 of the kernel available. In my experience it's noticeable better than 1.2 battery-wise. The brightness issue is still there though.
