My OnePlus 8T seems like it doesnt want to update OTA anymore.
Its downloading the OTA file Evolution_kebab-ota-tp1a.220905.004.a2-09192234-unsigned.zip
When i press install it sates installing and then quickly jumps to Install error.
Not sure where to look why its failing.
Looking at the installation build number it show evolution_kebab-userdebug 13 TP1A.220905.0041662933933 release keys.
Where/how can i find the reason why the update is failing?

Try fastboot getvar all in cmd or Powershell with the phone in bootloader
For me, it does not show anything that resembles firmware version C33, although I followed the wiki to flash to C33 and now C35.

Any ideas on which variable we are looking for? Post your output for reference.
Code:
$ fastboot getvar all 2>&1 | grep -i version
(bootloader) version-vndk:33
(bootloader) version-os:13
(bootloader) version:0.4
(bootloader) version-baseband:
(bootloader) version-bootloader:unknown

I have not installed a custom ROM in years. I want to do this to my OP8P global that is on stock 12.1 C.33. With stock ROMs I need to root with Magisk.

I still want root to use my CallRecorder app and Vanced for YouTube and a few other apps that need root. Is this from pre-rooted, or do I have to root it afterward as I do stock ROM?

I could not find an answer in the OP wanted to ask before I attempt to install it since it's been a long time.

No, it's not pre rooted. It has work around so that it passes SafetyNet out of the box, but it's not rooted.

Just follow all the steps outlined here and you'll be fine. Coming from vanilla oos is pretty straight forward if you just follow the steps 1 by 1.

Thx, havent seen that before.
Will update recovery and clean install
TBH, I had trouble when trying to update to the latest builds - couldn't get past booting into fastboot or recovery. But, I hadn't cleaned flashed since A12 versions so no idea what was hanging around. So since I was going to have to clean flash anyway, I MSMed back to OOS11, flashed to C33 and then clean installed the latest EvoX. Didn't take very long and meant a nice clean start.

I have done the entire MSM procedure not that long ago, so i dont think its needed.
Will do factory reset though.
So flash new recovery, sideload the latest rom and then factory reset, should be fine i hope.

Hi.
After a gruelling 26 hours of failed attempts of reviving my op8p, I have finally succeeded. I have installed all software updates one by one and now on c33. There's now c35, if I install that, am I able to install latest Evo X or should I remain on c33?

I'm having trouble with NFC.
Is there any steps I can take to troubleshoot?

I successfully installed this rom today on my OP8P after years of not having a custom ROM and just on stock OOS. Thx for the clean instructions.

OTA for this rom. When the OP makes an update, I assume I will get a specific update for this rom. I have Magisk installed using the factory OOS I would need to flash the boot.img before rebooting to keep root.

Will I need to do that here after doing an OTA update....will I need to sideload Magisk or re-root again after an update?

Thx

    No one said that.

In fact, face unlock has been added and will be available on the next builds.

Ok, I know I've said this before, and I'm going to seriously regret saying it again, but I just can't help myself. If you want a Dev to take your bug report seriously, it needs to be reproducible by the Dev. Simply saying "I installed this ROM, plus a ton of apps, changed a bunch of settings, and now my battery life is ****" does not help anyone. If you want them to take the report seriously, it needs to be "I installed a fresh ROM, restored nothing, installed nothing and changed this one setting, found the battery life was noticeably shortened. Turned that setting back off and verified that battery life was back to normal." That kind of report is likely to get some action, the previous one very likely to be ignored. These guys are all volunteers who give their time away for free to help fix googles/oplus/qualcoms **** for us ungrateful end users. If you're gonna winge about the ROM, at least do it constructively :p

Anyone having issues with pixel launcher since last update. The weather widget is not opening to full forecast and the search bar isn't working-only searching installed apps.
Issues with pixel launcher have already been fixed. Will be available on the next release.

Would you mind explaining a little further how to get magisk and root with evolution x just installed?? i dont want to get my phone bricked

Sideload (using with Evolution custom rom provided Recovery) and the
    ADB sideload command

Once in Recovery and using Sideload as OP lays out in the same way to flash this rom.
    • Boot the phone in recovery and connected to a computer using the ADB commands
    • Once in Recovery go to Sideload option
    • adb devices (verify device is connected) from the computer
    • adb sideload Magisk-v25.2.zip (keep root) from the computer

The Magisk file is the same as the apk file just changing the extension to .zip

Once done reboot and install the Magisk app
    3
Energy consumption is bad at the moment. After twelve hours of normal usage. Down to twenty percent. Not good.
I also experience a poor battery life. The Rom is super fast and has no major bugs, so maybe battery optimization is the way to evolve now...

DO NOT FLASH GAPPS, ALREADY INCLUDED

    VvzRh0K.png

First Time Install / Clean Flash (8 & 8 Pro)
    1. Be on any version of OOS12 (required firmware is shipped with Evolution X for these devices)
    2. Download vbmeta, recovery, and rom for your device from here (please make sure that you don't flash instantnoodlep (8 Pro) on instantnoodle (8) else you will hardbrick your device)
    3. Reboot to bootloader
    4. fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    fastboot reboot recovery
    5. While in recovery, navigate to Apply update -> Apply from ADB (if you experience no touch in recovery, then use the vol & pwr keys. This is a sign of you being on an early version of OOS12. The required firmware will be flashed during installation of the ROM.)
    6. adb sideload rom.zip (replace "rom" with actual filename)
    7. Format data, reboot to system & #KeepEvolving

    First Time Install / Clean Flash (8T & 9R)

    2. Download copy_partitions, vbmeta, recovery, and rom for your device from here
    3. Reboot to bootloader
    4. fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
    fastboot reboot recovery
    5. While in recovery, navigate to Apply update -> Apply from ADB
    6. adb sideload copy_partitions.zip (press "yes" when signature verification fails) and then reboot to recovery
    7. Repeat step 5 and then adb sideload rom.zip (replace "rom" with actual filename)
    8. Format data, reboot to system & #KeepEvolving

    Update / Dirty Flash
    1. Reboot to recovery
