Don't bother waiting for an answer. Been there, done that.

I'll be installing this ROM in a few days when I'm free and will post a review for people like me and you who are skeptical of the performance and stability of the ROM.

Edit: Just realized I have to wait a week to unlock my bootloader. That certainly makes things more annoying. I was planning on flashing it this weekend.

as long as there is no kernel source, miui will always be better. especially the cam and the fingerprint sensor.

i tried every single rom out there and all have the same issues, caused by missing kernel source.

On my SPESN so far I've tried miui.eu, Pixel Experience and PixelPlusUI, this Evolution X ROM has been the best for me. Significantly improved performance and stability over MIUI, and battery life is comparable.

I expect to accept a bit of a jank on a newish ROM for a phone, but this feels very mature already. I haven't even experienced the charging issues that others have reported. It was a bit shaky on first run, but a couple of restarts fixed that.

A13 also fixes a few annoyances about A12. The only big thing missing at the moment is face unlock, but I personally don't use that anyway. Fingerprint is fine, camera is fine (although I will probably install GCam anyway).

Interesting.

Is your Phone the 4gb RAM Version?
Is fast charging Working?
Does whatsapp have bad Video call quality?

I don't trust these (YouTube) guys because he said that the ROM was perfect, no issues at all, when people in the forums were talking about flickering, slow charging, etc.

there is no 50mp cam and no full working gcam. finger print sensor is not always working as it should. the display sometimes wont get off, by pressing power key.

thats on every rom.
I don't really mind the 50 MP but I've exclusively been using GCam on MIUI and the wide + ultrawide work fine, which honestly is all that really matters. Images are a bit soft so I believe that's because of the lack of 50 MP support.

The fingerprint sensor and the power button bugs you've mentioned is the first time I've seen them mentioned. I just hope I don't encounter those.

Also, this is my first time on a MIUI phone. When is the usual timeframe when Xiaomi officially gives the kernel source to the public?

Finally got the chance to install the ROM, and I've used it for 2 days. Here are my pros and cons (or bugs) for the ROM:

Pros:
  • It's Android 13! Latest security update as well.
  • Animations and fluidity is so much better than MIUI.
  • Battery life is almost exactly like it is in MIUI. Charging speed seems to be the same too.
  • GCam (MGC_8.1.101_A9_GV2b) works on the device like it did on MIUI (although, my GCam couldn't detect the macro lens, but I don't use that excuse of a lens anyway).
  • No issues on Wi-Fi or mobile data. I don't use VoLTE though.
  • Actually has multitasking, unlike MIUI.
Overall just so much better than MIUI. I love it. Absolutely daily driver material.

Cons (or Bugs):
  • The Battery Usage statistics section has bugged percentages. (for example, Twitter used 6,442% of my battery lol)
  • The double tap to wake/sleep feature only works for a few seconds after the device goes to sleep. Double tapping the screen does nothing after that. Have to wake the device up using the power button.
  • The recents app switcher sometimes bugs out when using full screen gestures. Have to swipe to home around 2 more times to fix. Rare bug.
  • The Brightness slider in the quick settings works with no issues but the visual animation of swiping the bar is buggy. The bar moves by itself while adjusting and tries to go back to it's initial state before adjusting brightness. Again, this bug doesn't change the brightness, it's just a visual bug.
  • The display flickering bug is not fixed. It only happens sometimes but unlike MIUI, it even happens at around 40-50% brightness. Doesn't bother me too much though.
  • Can't adjust volume in full screen games. In my case, it was ProgressBar95, a fullscreen portrait game. I could only adjust the volume during the first few seconds of booting the game up but clicking the volume buttons did nothing after that. Have to swipe back to home to adjust volume. This didn't happen in MIUI on the same game.
  • The camera randomly stopped working for me in all apps (GCam, Snapchat, etc.). I had to restart the phone to fix that. I didn't do anything to cause it.
  • (Kinda Minor) Twitter is a bit laggy when booted up and scrolled. It takes a while for it to become smooth. Not the case in MIUI.
  • (Minor) There is no gesture to bring up the notification shade using the fingerprint sensor. No swiping gesture nor a double tap gesture like in MIUI.
  • (Minor) There is a lot of empty space under GBoard even after making the pill invisible. I think this is because Evolution X A13 might not have the functionality of completely removing the bottom bar, not just visually.
  • (Minor) Full screen navigation gesture vibration is really low, and non-existent for the back gesture. Should be around 15 ms in my opinion.
  • (Minor) The 4G and LTE icons are too big in the status bar.
  • (Minor or Unsupported idk) 60 FPS video doesn't work in my GCam. Nor do any of the slow motion options.
These are all bugs that can be looked over, especially since a lot of Evolution X features have not been implemented in the Android 13 version yet. They are really minor, but I just felt like I should mention them since the end user deserves to be aware of everything they might face when using the ROM.

In conclusion, my experience with the ROM has been great. Stock Android will never not be a great experience. Thanks, etylix! Fantastic ROM!

Thanks for the write up. 👍🏻

Is your Phone the 4gb RAM Version? Are you going to keep this rom as your daily driver?

Do you use whatsapp or other videocall Apps. Because in whatsapp in miui Stock Rom the cam has very Bad video quality in videocalls. Maybe you could test and See if this bug is also present in this rom...

I forgot to mention that. Yes, I have the 4 GB variant, unfortunately. I will be keeping this as a daily driver, yes, because MIUI had a lot of issues for me.

I don't do videocalling a lot, but I just checked the WhatsApp video quality after your post and yes, I can confirm that the video calling quality is really bad on this ROM as well (recording quality is fine). I only checked WhatsApp but I guess it would be the same everywhere else too.
