Fulmics ROM 7.6 FAQs & Points to Consider:
1) SmartShare.Cloud:
Also called CloudHub or Cloud by some, this app can't be "directly" updated. What I mean is, stock version MUST be in its "designated location" (system/priv-app/CloudHub) during installation, and then it can be updated by "sideloading" the newer APK after installation. If you prefer using this app and would like to update it, AVOID removing it during installation. Let it install, and then sideload the APK from a trustworthy website like APK Mirror. Don't hold me responsible for anything that may happen to you, though. You are your own best security!
2) "Review Additional Apps" page at the end of Play Store account setup:
This page is of no use and I have no idea why Google put it in Play Services v10 and later. When you see it, just skip it.
3) I can still hear some hiss when I plug in my headphones
What you can hear is white/pink noise and occurs randomly due to electronic interference within the phone. No one can ever fix that for you. The fix I'm talking about is a different one; it occurs mostly when listening to music and how it effects the sound depends on the music you listen to (yeah, I know this is crazy, but also very true!). Additionally, if there is nothing wrong in the mixer_paths.xml file for your variant, you'll not see any change. For me, this problem was definitely present in my
D855 and was gone after the correction. Your mileage may vary depending on your variant.
4) Why are Google Search and Play Services not updated to latest version?
I did this to keep the last bits of privacy you
might have when using Android. Starting with Play Services 10.5, Google nags you about keeping your location on EVERY TIME you turn it off. The latest Play Services version that doesn't suffer from this annoying feature(!) is v10.2.99, so I chose it as "factory version" for you guys.
As for Google Search, well, not everyone may like it, and many people out there complain about their microphone being constantly listened by this app. AFAIK this "bug" hasn't been fixed for months now, so I chose the latest Google Search app that doesn't have Google Assistant AND that doesn't suffer from this problem as my "factory version".
5) I WANT Google Assistant! How can I get it?
Simple. Download the latest Google App from Play Store, change your phone's language to one supported by Google Assistant (AFAIK English and German is supported ATM), clear app data from Settings > Apps > Google App and then restart your phone. Google Assistant should launch when you press Home button now.
6) What about this Google Instant Apps thing?
Google is recently feeding it down the throats of many users, especially if Play Services on your phone is newer than v10.0.84. It can and it
probably WILL install itself automatically on your phone, and then it will update itself without your permission as if we really would like to have it on our phones. Unfortunately I haven't found a way of avoiding this thing and it has NOTHING to do with me - blame Google for their policy if you are unhappy.
7) My phone suddenly started nagging me about keeping my location on!
It appears that the guys at Google has recently started thinking that they should force-feed the latest version of Play Services to our phones even though we're perfectly happy with our current version. If your phone starts nagging you about turning your location on, then it means Google has automatically updated Play Services for you. In that case, do the following to get rid of the nag:
- Go to
Settings > Apps > Google Play Services
- Tap the triple dot on the top right corner and choose
Uninstall Updates.
- If you encounter a "This app is device admin" error, turn
Device Admin property
OFF for Play Services.
- Tap the triple dot and click "Uninstall updates" once again, and then proceed as required to go back to "factory version" (v10.2.99 in our case). If the issue persists, try clearing app data for Google Play Services and restart your phone. Once you have uninstalled this auto-update, Play Services won't update itself automatically again (at least this is what I've experienced so far).
8) Why are the options to remove Smart Settings and Google Search in AROMA are gone?
Back then when I was tinkering with stock-based G3 ROMs, I found out that removing Google App from the ROM during installation broke the Home Button functionality for Google App. If you remove Google App from the phone during ROM installation, Home button will NOT launch Google App later even if you "push" it into system/priv-app folder, let alone sideload it. Most users aren't aware of this, just as I wasn't once, so I chose to keep the app in the ROM as a safe bet. If you want to get rid of it at any cost, you can remove it by removing the folder
"Velvet" from
system/priv-app after installation using a file explorer with root support (such as Amaze).
As for Smart Settings, I found out that it's a part of LG's Settings interface, so even if you choose to remove it during installation, it's still there after installation, and it can cause random crashes at times. Therefore I removed the possibility to remove it as well. If you don't like it, then just don't use it like me and you'll be fine.
9) SmartNotice doesn't work! Help!
As much as I like some features of SmartNotice, it apparently doesn't work for some users with custom ROMs. This is NOT an issue specific to Fulmics ROM. Unfortunately it doesn't work for me, either, and it has happened to me with all the stock-based ROMs out there that I've tried. This is true for Tekcafe UX4, Tekcafe UX5, Nimax etc. as well, so this problem is certainly not an isolated one. xpirt has recently sold his G3, and I don't know how to fix this problem, so we simply can't fix it now (maybe other developers can fix it if you notify them, though). If this issue happens to you even after a clean install, either accept it & live with it or go back to full factory stock. As nice as SmartNotice can be, the benefits of using Fulmics or another custom ROM far exceeds those of SmartNotice for me, so I know which side I'll be staying on
10) Google Photos:
I've modified the ROM & the installer script such that this app is installed on your phone
only if you choose to install Google+. If you don't use it, you can remove it. If you use it, however, take note that I've specifically kept the Photos app at
v2.16 so that you can have the famous
"backup photos only when charging the phone" option if you choose to sync your photos. This has been removed from newer versions of Photos app for some unknown reason, so
avoid updating it IF you wish to keep this option.
That's all I'd like to say for now... Hope you enjoy Fulmics v7.6, guys. Good night!
