Redmi Note 8
Before I install can someone please tell me if:

1. Work Profile works on this ROM?

2. How is the camera quality. I prefer GCAM instead of MIUI Camera?

Thank you

Wifi is not turning on when I flash the latest PixelExperience_ginkgo-12.1-20220813-1048-OFFICIAL.zip (non plus)

Retuned to PixelExperience_ginkgo-12.1-20220708-1334-OFFICIAL.zip

But wifi still doesn't turn on.

All I do every time is `adb sideload <update.zip>` with the Pixel Experience bootloader. Should I clear something ?

Thanks
I know this is off topic but I have Redmi Note 8 (Gingko) (Indian Model) running everything stock and want to install PixelOS on it because MIUI is very buggy.
Few things to clear out first... I don't want my data to be decrypted since I have to use banking apps.
This is my first time trying a custom ROM.

I know how to unlock the bootloader though, after unlocking the bootloader,
I have to connect it to a PC in Fastboot mode... install a recovery
I don't want to install TWRP as it is really complicated for me as of now.

Will installing PixelExperience Recovery using fastboot and then Flashing the actual PixelOS 12 build do the job because it is a PixelExperience Recovery but I am installing PixelOS

Secondly, if at all I am able to install this ROM, it is mentioned that you have to flash latest firmware can that be done using PixelExperience Recovery.

Lastly, as my model is indian variant it will support fast charging, safetynet and videvine L1 out of the box right ? Also is miui camera included and works properly ?

Suggest a method that doesn't involve TWRP, Rooting. Using ADB and Fastboot only.
Please help it is really urgent !!!!

Thank you for this great rom .
I have bug with sound emplifer in call ?
I hear my sound and arround sound emplifying .
I have the same problem three updates ago and they do not solve the problem, I thought I was the only one but there are already several with the same problem. I had to change the rom because that noise is very annoying. in general the rom is excellent.

Someone please let me know the list of all the known bugs in PixelOS 12.1-20220812-1350 build. Also, which camera app is included and if all the camera modes work fine.
I am willing to install it today.. Thanks in advance

Long story short
So yesterday I tried to flash PixelOS recovery. Here are the steps I followed after successfully unlocking the bootloader :
  1. Removed screen lock --> Logged out of Google and MI account both
  2. Then I double checked if USB Debugging was enabled (yes, it was !). --> OEM Unlocking was also enabled of course as the bootloader was unlocked.
  3. Connected my Redmi Note 8 (ginkgo) to the PC --> typed in "adb devices" in platform tools folder CMD window and my device got listed.
  4. Just to be sure I booted the device into fastboot mode (volume down + power) --> checked "fastboot devices" --> it also showed my device --> I was good to proceed.
  5. Then I copied the firmware, PixelExperience recovery and the actual ROM over to Platform tools folder.
  6. While still in fastboot, and phone connected to PC --> I typed "fastboot flash recovery" followed by the path of the recovery in quotes. (Note that for simplicity, I had renamed it to just "recovery already").
  7. CMD showed flashed successfully.
  8. Then I typed "fastboot boot" followed by the path of the recovery in quotes. --> Redmi logo kept showing for a long time.
  9. I disconnected the phone from PC --> pressed the power button turned it off --> Then tried to boot to recovery (Volume Up + Power).
  10. I was greeted with "The system has been destroyed" message --> Turned of the phone --> Rebooted normally and it turned on to MIUI
  11. Then again I booted to recovery and PixelOS recovery wasn't there but stock MIUI recovery was there.

In fact I tried flashing the recovery multiple times, it shows success message but there is still stock recovery. (I have also tried disconnecting just after recovery flash and manually booting but that too doesn't work). What am I missing here. Anyone please help I am stuck

As instructed, I used the latest global firmware (firmware_ginkgo_miui_GINKGOGlobal_V12.5.2.0.RCOMIXM_75abe1782e_11.0) and found these bugs:
  1. Call Recording starts but doesn't record anything
  2. Device rebooted randomly once after deleting a call recording
  3. Double Tap to sleep under gestures doesn't work (but tap to wake on lockscreen works)
  4. Some of the icons under Google Dialer settings are missing
  5. No option to import sim contacts
    1. I had to export all the contacts to Google Contacts using another device and then sync the contacts using Google Preferences under settings in PixelOS device
  6. Updating the Recorder app (from 1.2.314117049 - the one which comes pre-installed to 3.5.456678826) completely broke the app. The app opened but didn't record, transcription also didn't work.
    1. Had to uninstall updates to fix it.
  7. Monet clock widget and Settings icon malfunctioned once and color didn't match one of the pre installed wallpapers.
    1. Issue got fixed after a restart

Kudos to the PixelOS staff, the latest build from August 12th is the best ever, great, smooth and great battery beckup. Just a tip, fix the position to the left of the clock which is very lateral, and then I noticed the difference in position of the signal battery icons etc ... when the phone has the screen lock and you unlock it, pay attention to this step. Thank you.

sure, but the order doesn't matter actually
I'll change it in the post anyway since flashing firmware before sounds cleaner to me while it might make 0 difference.
Regarding different firmwares for both the devices, I've mentioned it properly in the instructions that we've seperate firmware for ginkgo and willow by linking separate links to their firmwares.

Hey I'm the guy that bricked my phone by installing the wrong firmware back in January. After months of leaving the phone in the drawer and coming back today to see if I could unbrick it, I was able to by using the steps in this forum:

Redmi Note 8T (Willow) users: Please note that when following the guide, you need to use the willow rom files, but the guide is exactly the same other wise. Refer to these comments for further help:

and

I have a Redmi Note 8T (Willow), the phone is now working again with a fresh install of PixelOS. The weird thing is even with the latest version of TWRP, I almost ran into the same problem again, TWRP will refuse to install Willow firmware and keeps saying "this firmware is for willow, this is a gingko" and it's wrong, to avoid another brick I backed out, and tried using OrangeFox instead which had absolutely no issues.

So if anyone out there has the Redmi Note 8T (Willow), use OrangeFox if the same error pops up for you :)

Hope this helps someone somewhere.

PixelOS is an AOSP based ROM, with Google apps included and all Pixel goodies (launcher, wallpapers, themed icons, google sans fonts, Monet color based system wide theming, boot animation), a fork of OG Pixel Experience with improvements on the top of it. Huge respect to Pixel Experience team for their work, thanks to them for making this ROM possible.
In short a fully functional Pixel Experience with just the right amount of essentials.

Code:
/* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/

Improvements over PixelExperience

Device Specific Issues:
• Slow charging on Chinese variants (temporary workaround is to flash a different kernel like Sixteen or Ryzen Kernel).
• 48MP doesn't work in MIUI Camera (won't work on android 12 because of source built libcamera service).
• NFC on willow (Android13)
• You tell me.

Requirements
• Latest Global Stable Android 11 firmware for ginkgo and willow users

The facial recognition thing should have been fixed.
This is a pixel based rom and doesnt pack extra customizations, you can surely flash magisk mods to get rid of that space. Although even the latest Pixels have it the same way.
I tested this rom, it's not that smooth, phone is too laggy, but the irony here is that, cpu throttling test is impressive.

Nice! Congrats on Android 13 build. Should a willow NFC fix be expected in a later build?

    Encryption FAQ

Encryption means converting your data into an unreadable (encrypted) format which prevents it from being read without first being decrypted, increasing security as those who don't know the key (in this case password or PIN) to decrypting the data won't be able to read the data, they'll just get jumbled characters.

On the other hand, leaving the phone decrypted or forcing decryption will allow anyone access to that data without issue.

Most ROMs are encrypted by default. When formatting data during the flashing process, this allows the data partition to be encrypted when the phone boots.

    In short:
    1. If you prefer your data being secure and aren't planning on changing ROMs frequently, leave the builds encrypted.
    2. If you plan on flashing different ROMs on a regular basis, decryption may be an easier option though less secure.

Can I flash magisk on encrypted builds with PixelOS recovery?
    Yes, you can sideload it

    How to flash encrypted builds?
    - Reboot to fastboot mode
    - Flash PixelOS recovery fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
    - Sideload ROM using ADB
    - Go to Advanced and Format Data
    4
Didn't find any camera app after the first boot. Does it have any? Would be great, if it has had MiCam port.
    this month
