New update give me chills !!!

Last 2 updates make me do lots of backup and restore using PC.
Those updates make the touch screen useless, and had to format all data (inc. internal storage) & flash full ROM againnnn.

Can anyone confirm, does anyone face the issue like that mentioned above 👆
A) You have to be able to read: there are steps required for fully operational functions. Like: flashing the firmware file. If you don't do that step touchscreen doesn't work among many other bugs.

B) Sounds like you will want to just MSM back to OOS and stick with that. Wiping data and restoring is a necessary evil of messing with custom ROMS. Sometimes you can dirty flash but that sometimes causes more problems than the ROM would give if you clean flash.

So if you can't follow (A), I would stick with following (B). No need to talk bad about the ROM (which works mostly fine - just minor bugs here or there) because you can't follow directions and acting like wiping data/restoring is a hassle for you. If it is a hassle, stick with OOS.

Its not just you. There is some discussion earlier in the thread for a method to "Fix" the video problem. But it didn't work for me. There is still a 10 second pause before each video plays. It was not fixed with recent updates. I'm just living with it. It makes me use my phone for dumb crap less.

Could either of you get a log of it? Like start the log, wait for it to stop spewing constant lines then hit play to the video then stop once the video starts? Maybe the log can pinpoint what is happening. Unless someone else already posted one and I just missed it.

But that's the best way to help the dev possibly get it fixed.

Although, not using the phone as much can be a + too lol

power menu styles will get removed in next update (already reverted source side) due to some other major incompatibilities
will probably get revisited at a later time in crDroid 9 life cycle

One thing I noticed is that all of the menu styles except Legacy picked up on extra items added to the advanced restart menu, such as Fastboot and Restart SystemUI (I added these on my personal LOS fork, and I temporarily cherry picked the power menu style just to try it out). Legacy, however, did not; heck, pressing "restart" didn't even offer an advanced restart menu, it just restarted the phone. So, yeah, nice idea, but a little buggy and incomplete. 😉

The only real way (and best way) to tell what is going on with battery drain is to measure it using an app like AccuBattery. Otherwise, there is no way to really know if some app is causing the phone to not deep sleep.

[According to AccuBattery] I can say I usually get around 4.5hr of screen on time. With use throughout the day, I can maybe get around 15-20hr of battery life depending on usage for that day (I don't game and primarily use the phone & text with light web browsing with screen brightness at 60%). AccuBattery says I have a 3200mAh battery capacity (health) remaining.

But I did a test just for some of you to compare and see it most likely isn't the ROM's fault, it is probably something rouge that you have installed.

I primarily used my other phone during this time so as to not skew it much (if any at all). I'll attach the screenshot.

    Some background info:
-I only have data & WiFi on. No bluetooth or NFC
-I do not have rouge-potential apps like FB, IG, Twitter or TikTok installed
    -I am using GApps
    -I am not rooted
-I am not using the "always on display" feature
-I do have lift-to-wake and ambient display enabled (so it does light up for a few seconds when a notification comes in). And I did receive many notifications during this test.
-I do not have "network optimization" (or whatever it's called where it delays notifications and such) enabled.

The screenshot will show (to help break it down for you):
-It used a total of 14% in 13hr 47m. That is like 1%/hr.
-It stayed in deep sleep for 93% of the time that the screen was off (12.5hrs out of 13h and 26m). It used 9.2% battery while in deep sleep and 1.4% battery not in deep sleep (adding to 10.6% battery used during screen off time).
-I left the screen off for a total of 13h 26m out of 13h 47m.
-Screen on used 3.4% in 20 min
-10.6+3.4=14% (total screen off time + total screen on time battery usage)

With these stats, if I were to not use the phone, keep the screen off (and use it just for notifications), I could potentially get like 80-100hr of battery life (1%/hr, 100hr=100%). Now obviously phones are meant to be used. But I'm just pointing out the fact that, if you have the correct setup, no rouge (battery draining like running in the background, keeping the phone out of deep sleep) apps, the battery life is perfect on this ROM.

If you're getting 5%/hr battery drain overnight (while the phone should be in 'deep sleep' mode) then the phone is not going into deep sleep like it should be. Something isn't right - that is not normal. I used 422mAh in 13h 26m. 422 out of 3200. I can't really see it ever getting any better than that (except in airplane mode). Esp for a 3-4yr old phone.

Now while you're using your phone, that is a different story. Everyone's battery life will be different. This is very highly dependent on: your screen brightness, if you have BT and/or NFC enabled, how you use your phone - if it is to game (high battery drainer), talk on the phone a lot (pretty high of a battery drainer) or if you just use it to message people (not a high battery drainer). Also, battery capacity (life) left.

In the end, you must use a battery measuring app like AccuBattery to get the best idea of what is going on.
    1
Nope, I'm losing about 5-6% with a 8 hour night usually.
    5-6%/hr or overall?

If it is /hr then that is horrible and you need to investigate. You're probably going to burn out the CPU or something at that rate - that is not normal.

If you're saying 5-6% total (so from 100% in 8 hours you're now at 94%) that is really good and even better than I got doing my test (as shown above). That is like .7%/hr or something.
    1
I use the "AccuBattery" app to measure the power consumption. It is therefore 1.5% per hour in deepsleep. I think this could be normal.
That is normal and a good %, not great but definitely not bad either.

Hi, I flashed gapps and got an error while booting into system: "Can't load Adroid system. Your data may be corrupt... You may need to perform a factory data reset...".

After I formatted data since there is no other option, CrDroid loaded normally and I have gapps.

Is that ok now or should I install again and do something different?
Not sure what ROM you were coming from but unless it was the previous build of this ROM, you always need to [unfortunately] wipe data when installing these ROMs. Some have success jumping from one ROM to another without wiping but you will most likely run into problems doing so. Many factors in play like different android bases, different cherry picked features (so different code), different kernels, etc. etc.

Seeing how you "formatted data" (which is a wipe), you should be good to go. Following the OP (original post) guide on the first page for a "Clean Install" (when coming from another ROM) is basically required. If you're updating you don't usually need to wipe, which the OP states how to do this.

Also just going to throw this out there (because I feel like you may not have read the instructions on the first post), hopefully you flashed the firmware file it says to flash and followed those instructions fully. Otherwise, you'll have other issues.

I'm so excited about this new update! Thank you so much gwolfu!!! This update resolved the weird video pause issue.

I whipped up a tutorial, aimed at beginners, going over each step in some detail. Its mostly for my own memory in the future but if anyone is just jumping into this stuff it may help.

Will OTA install the firmware for the latest update, or do we need to install firmware separate?
    install firmware
    install update
    reboot to recovery
    install gapps

For those not willing to go through the hassle to install OOS 12 on both slots just to update firmware before installing crDroid, I've made a "firmware flash tool" available on download page
Just boot to bootloader and run Update-firmware.sh (linux) or Update-firmware.bat (windows)
