I thought about maybe having the wrong ruu before and therefore having bad partitions. or that it might be a problem with the recovery? I use CWM. TWRP doesn't accept that build. neither does CWM for the cm11 build. I got confused about that. I'm still hoping that it's a setup thing

I did the complete rooting process including downgrading Android according to this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
I think that the /boot partition can be the only one that can cause the problem because everything else should be replaced later to be able to flash new Android. BTW I use 4EXT recovery for flashing, not CWM, but I think that if there is no error than the CWM should work. If you want, I can upload everything needed for rooting and you can do the process again. There are some links in the tutorial that aren't working now but I have everything needed and tested, I have rooted and flashed the version 10.1 on 3 different Desire Z and every device works as it should.

I know it sounds silly but try this:
1) Enable usb-debugging in dev-options
2) Enable air-plane-mode
3) Turn off your phone
4) connect the phone with a pc via an usb-cable
5) Turn on your phone and wait 5min
6) Disable air-plane-mode and pray

I know it doesnt make any sence, but there is a reason you want to use a DesireZ in year 2014 - its called love :p
Even if it doesnt work it is worth a try (10min).

Cheers

try another ROM first

Nothing helps. I think Wi-Fi Is hard broken. This one goes to trash and I'll go and visit eBay :p
before you do that you maybe should try another ROM first; in my opinion Andromadus Mimicry 1.5.0 still is one of the most stable ROMs available for the DZ; I never had probs with that apart from the fact that it's left sitting on ICS. If you cannot turn on WiFi there then maybe it's gone.

Currently I'm running Flinn's Andromadus CM11.0 Alpha 3 which I feel is reasonably stable for every day useage, but every now and again I cannot turn WiFi back on coming out of flight mode or after having disabled it for some other reasons; device simply keeps telling me that WiFi i scurrently being activated. I then have to completely reboot the device which usually does the trick.

Good luck!

Another clue for broken wifi, I wasn't able to make it work when using ART runtime, it's always hanging with 'wifi is activating' message.
Went back to Dalvik runtime and wifi is back again.
If it can help...

maybe ART would be the way to reborn for a DesireZ, but I think using it into an alpha version maybe a little bit soon...isn't it???:p

Hey guys,

I can't install the ROM (alpha5), I'm getting 'Installation aborted (bad)' in recovery. File was downloaded and checked few times in order to make sure it's not damaged. SD card was also formatted, still no joy. Can it be my version of recovery 6.0.4.5?

My son had the installation abort with "failure to set Metadata," and the newer 4ext also helped.

We had some trouble with the gapps packages though. Apparently you need to use a micro and not mini gapps package on the Tmobile G2. The Desire Z has a slightly larger /system partition.

Update your recovery with latest ext4.

Thanks man, it helped.

Also, do you guys use any tricks to reduce the lag? I don't want to complain about stock performance too much as it is fairly good, but it lacks a little bit to be DD I think. Currently I'm using Memory Manager but I needed Extreme option to be fully satisfied. Do you have any other suggestions I could try?

Salut Keno, What do you mean by a quick and stable ROM, do you have a pref for any of them ?
I'm thinking to downgrade in order to get the best experience possible on a DZ. I'm planning to buy a new phone (the mic doesn't work anymore on my DZ since a week :() but I would like to keep it with a non too much experimental ROM, even with the mic not working.
I'm interested by the sony Z1, it looks like a decent phone and begins to be affordable. Almost 4 years for the DZ it's not so bad after all, nowadays.

My favorite is still AlterNdromadus CM10.1 | Android 4.2.2

Remains stable and quite quick
Close to the last versions.
I've tried some booster which gave improvements, but after a while, it started to gave stanged thiongs so I flashed over the ROM.
I use 8SMS app and Dialer EX which are more responsive than stock one's.

    Andromadus - Test Builds

To start with here you will find test versions of ROMs built by me from the Andromadus github repo http://github.com/Andromadus, think of them along the same concept as nightly builds just not every night These are development ROM's, if you want to run bleeding edge development ROM's and at least know how to use adb and logcat then you might find something of interest here. If you require something that works 100% of the time all of the time then this might not be for you. That said you can always give it a try and if it doesn't work restore your previous nandroid backup!

    What IS Andromadus?
Initially it was a group of people who got together to make ICS work on the HTC Desire Z because nobody else seemed to want to support devices with physical hardware keyboards/trackpads. Whilst the idea stays the same It has grown slightly to support some other hardware and some of the work we have done is now used in many other devices. Andromadus builds of CM10 or CM10.1 are basically CM sources with a few additional tweaks or additions to support our phones.

    1. New versions will be added as and when I feel there are enough changes to warrant one, don’t ask when the next version is coming.

    2. If we decide to release a "Stable" version of these roms they will be published in another Andromadus thread.
Direct all your queries with release versions to that thread and in the same vain do not discuss these releases anywhere but here.

    3. I will do as best I can to answer questions but if you don't get an answer from me I'm sure somebody else will be along to help. Help each other and I have more time to spend fixing things!

    4. Don't ask for what's changed since the previous version, have a look at the recent submits on the Andromadus github if you want to know or wait for the mini changelogs when I post a new release.

    5. If there is something in particular to test it'll be mentioned!

    6. As always if you didn't wipe between installations then at least verify that the problem exists on a clean install before posting here. Nandroid/superwipe/install/check at the end of the day you can always restore your nandroid if the problem is reproducible on a clean installation. If you can't be bothered to try this then I really can't be bothered to try to help you :>

    7. All that said ensure you make a nandroid/backup before hand. I take no responsibility for what you do to your phone with these ROM.

    8. Whilst I can't stop you I would rather these builds were not used as a base for any ROM/MOD/ETC. The source is all available if you want to do your own builds with which you can do whatever you like.

    9. Tell us what works/what's worse/what's better but don't ***** when something breaks or isn't fixed yet, report it and move on.

    10. Sometimes people forget that we do this for fun, for ourselves, and sometimes your super important issue is way down on our personal list of things to be fixed.

If you ignore any of the above you will in turn be ignored.

Now that's all out of the way as always have fun

As usual you need to flash the ROM then GAPPS.

This a team/community effort, I'll not list everyone who has helped along the way here that list is in the beta thread but I will say thanks to all of them again and obviously anyone that has been missed.
