ya, i have a backup from around 1 month ago when i upgraded to the 4/15 build
i dont mind doing a clean reinstall, but is there any way to at least back up the txts or profile?

Not sure what work for that if freezes, they do have apps for that but you would have no way to run them, you can try hooking to a pc and copying files but then again you have to be able to tap the button to turn on mass storage i think

I have had this happen a lot, luckily I am fast enough to get to settings right before it freezes and lower the CPU, the sweet spot on my device, which I now know after many mishaps is 1.5 to be safe I leave it at 1.4

This is me also, although right now I am set at 1.5 with no problems. 1.6 is pushing it so 1.5 is as high as I go.

The Play store won't run with this mod so any apps can be installed! What good is that? Anyone found a workaround?

Has anyone else experienced this situation. Last time I had this ROM loaded it wasnt an issue for me. When you say wont run after flashing gapps does it fc or it isnt there. What type of install did you do and if you came from CM9 or GB a full wipe is needed or these kind of issues appear.

I came from CM9 but naturally did a full wipe first. Play store is not included with CM10 at all so I had to download it from Androidpolice.com and put it on the SD card to install. When I try to run it all it does is close again immediately! This wasn't a problem with CM9 and makes CM10 pretty worthless if I can't run any apps.

Another question, why are there a lot of apps installed in CM10 that have no user interface or icon to use to run them? I noticed a lot of stuff listed under All in the Apps manager like Dev Tools, SIM Toolkit and so on that can't be uninstalled but seem to not have any way to run them either. What are they for?

I didn't have an issue of no play store and I just flashed back to this ROM. Make sure you flash the right gapps package after the ROM or you will indeed not have Google Play. As for dev tools you should be able to enter it normally and through developer settings. Sim toolkit is what stores contacts and such on your sim card. What other apps are you referring to? Also you may have had a bad flash if you are having issues. Try reinstalling, first wipe 3x as has been stated, it clears up latent issues some users have had. Can has worked very hard on this ROM and it is near perfect. That is the reason I have always flashed back to it.

It's hard to believe that after 316 pages of comments nobody noticed the Play store app doesn't work or figured out a way to run it!

You can't just install the play store, you need to flash the whole package then you can go into system/apps and unstall any unwanted apps that you dont want.

That's not true. I installed just the Play store app on my tablet and I just did it on the phone except that it won't run on the phone!
Also you can't uninstall just any unwanted apps you don't want. Haven't you ever tried it?

There's files in the gapps package you need and yes you can delete any system apps download es file manager go into system/apps and delete any unwanted apps

Is the gapps package going to add a ton of bloadware like they had in CM9? The only way to remove all that was to use Titanium Backup.

No but again download es file manager and you can delete any app on the phone you dont want

anyone updated/installed the google keyboard from the playstore? I cant, it just stalls in the install (but it might have installed because the name changes in the apps in TiBackup)

I'm trying to uninstall the regular keyboard (updated to 4.2 from the flash zip in op post) and it's stalling in the backup and when i try to uninstall it, it says it cannot find the apk

similar thing happened with the gmail app, when i tried to update from the playstore, it said it couldnt because the previous version was damaged or something. I had to remove it with TiBackup and then install it from the playstore

i think something might be messed up in the flash zip file in the op post

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea but unfortunately it won't work. First the download site is offline but I was able to get the file from the mirror site. Then, if I remove all the unwanted files from the zip and just leave just the ones it says are needed the keyboard won't work so it's impossible to login to Play and it just keeps getting keyboard errors over and over. Also they say to install ClockWorkMod Recovery but there's no need for that since the phone can already boot into recovery to install the zip file. Unfortunately installing even the full version of gapps kills the on screen keyboard and makes it impossible to do anything with the constant keyboard failed error messages popping up all the time so it's totally useless!
As usual it seems that everyone writing those blogs and releasing new mods don't know what they are doing or talking about!
