Personally I prefer ROM2SD as you can have 2 roms installed - one on internal and one on the SD. Great for messing and great to keep a stable version
Data2sd doesn't really offer any benefit for me but it's up to you.

Hmm - were you asking if you could run the rom JUST on the SD card and none on your internal?
If that was the question, the answer is no. You do need to have CROMi-X installed on internal to run another rom as ROM2SD. I presume you were thinking of "waste of space" on internal? That's negliable. The ROM gets installed to the system partition and that's not usable for storage anyway.
I am not running ROM2SD (at least now...) because I discovered that maintaining TWO roms wreaks havoc with my social life - or what's left of it...
I can hardly keep up with the pace the gentleman up there ^^^^ is cranking out new versions!
Can't wait for the TF701 to get a working recovery - that'll distract him for a while (I hope!) :sly:

So, in another train of thoughts, i have to follow the next steps to end up with 2 rom's?
1. format the microsd with 3 partitions (1st fat and 2nd and 3rd ext4)
2. boot into twrp. forgot to mention that i'm on 10.6.1.14.10 WW Bootloader and TWRP 2.6.1.0, with CROMi-Xenogenesis 5.1 DEODEX
3. flash rom2sd-data2sd-intmedia-shell-that1.zip (have to reboot here or not?)
4. flash rom2sd1.zip (same here....reboot or not?)
5. flash CROMi-Xenogenesis 5.2.2 DEODEX and NOT reboot
6 .flash rom2sd2.zip
7. reboot and done?

well you still need to do step 1.No you don't need to do any of that. Just flash the ROM , choose one of that or hunds kernels AND rom2sd option and installer will do the rest for you.
