I have made some ROM's for Galaxy Note, Galaxy SIII Mini, Huawei P6 and many more ( I can't remember ) ...
Now i have buy a Note II and this is my first ROM for this phone. At the moment: in this ROM are only little tweaks and mods.
I work on it - My goal is: smoth, clean, stable - no big theme changes but perfekt apps and mods

Talking about 4.4.2 and considering your goal from OP I'd suggest Stock Kernel.
Users can then choose their prefered custom kernel :good:

I have no FC and my mods works perfect ... I'll style it a little bit to Android L
