I was on stock Asus 4.4.4 for a bit, but the drain was horrible after the latest play store/services update.
I fresh installed my Oct 18 build along with the slim gapps 7/19 and no drain after 5 hours.
Will take a day or two before I'm convinced it's gone.
I'll rebuild 4.4.4 for any changes sometime soon but job transition in the next couple weeks along with Christmas so no promises on timeframe.

Sent from my K00C using XDA Free mobile app

Edit...drains back. FU Google.
Yep same here............ It has to be google apps that causing the problem.

My tolerance for this crap from google is non existant.
Just so you all know, I moved to a surface pro, but my wife still has her tf710t.
I've actually completely left android. iPhone and surface for me.
The amount of MY personal time invested to get something to work right is way out of proportion when I use android.

Was it from updating the gapps?

I can 100% confirm it is googles issue.
I know this isn't a solution for most people, but for our usage, we only need a few apks, browsing and email.
So I installed my last aokp build without any gapps package, and just installed the apks we need.
Can now confirm, absolutely zero drain.
Google needs to fix this, it is not a rom, kernel, driver issue.
I'll give it a try will report back tomorrow. Thanks,

Seems disabling all Google services does it too. Unfortunately I need gmail I have like 6 Google business accounts...

Its strange though that the gapps don't drain any of my other devices... I'm running AOKP on my gpad and stock kk on one of my n5s (I bought mom a red one for mother's day and rolled back from lollipop because it was confusing her lol).

Hey Paulicat, the interesting thing is that other people, myself included, are not having any issues on latest GApps on other devices, just on the 701. I too experienced zero drain with GApps uninstalled, but I'm not entirely convinced that there still isn't an issue with the way that GApps is interacting with our device specifically that's causing issues. I'm getting thousands of wakelocks from Play Services but I'm thinking that this is because of something failing (e.g. location lock) and it's trying it again only to have it fail again and repeat the process. To me it seems logical that this is happening at the rom, kernel, or driver level, but only because of some issue in the interaction with GApps. Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about though, my experience in development is very limited.

I agree, it does look like something specific to our device.
However whatever it is, it was triggered by the latest gplay updates which is the part that's most upsetting.
The chance of Asus fixing it? I don't know we'll have to wait and see if there are any new rom releases from Asus.

But, we have the same problem with cm11. CM11 copy source from Asus?
Otherhand, we have relation to Gapps, so must Google make a correction :)

Problem now by CM: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/i#browse/CYAN-6124

Looks like the problem has to do with Nvidia DRM files. I followed what this guy suggested on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57639530&postcount=503 After removing those files my standby drain is fixed.

I found this on the trasformer forums yesterday, still have to give it a try!

Yes, it happens exactly the same on stock too.
Defo... lets hope the above works. Any idea what these drm files are for?

Honestly no, I don't use any drm type files that I could think of so no idea.
I searched it up and it seems to be to allow drm content in browser...the best part, Google owns Widevine so its pretty silly that they can't make their own crap play together nicely. No pun intended on play...

Odd that you would need DRM content in the browser, I'm trying to think of anything that would require that and I'm drawing a blank. Just FYI with those files deleted you can still play DRM files from Google Play (I tested one movie but I would assume if there were issues they would show right away). It really does annoy me when Google can't manage to make their own software work together. One of the big issues with Android has always been battery life and this has been a longstanding thing as far back as I can remember. There are already enough strains on battery with all the crazy hardware going into these devices, why is Google contributing to the problem with giant idle drain? You would think they want us to move over to Apple with all their poor work on Google Play Services.
