Flashing this recovery didn't work either. I still had bootloops using this recovery.

This recovery also gave me an error when attempting to flash the two different GAPPS 5.1 packages that I have so even if I didn't get bootloops I wouldn't have any Google services or apps.

Also, there is no way to create or restore Nandroid Backups with this recovery.

I had to figure out how to get back to somewhere where I could flash the TWRP .img file to get my TWRP recovery back and then restore my Nandroid.

Sent from my?HTC Desire 816 on Virgin Mobile USA

Can confirm. Have bootloops even after using CWM 12.1 Recovery.

[Stable ROM found]

Hello all,

As many of you are using this ROM even development discontinued. I was still building the codes of this ROM and uploading that to http://www.letschat.pro/download but now i am no longer doing that because i found another ROM for this phone which is very stable for all variant including indian version dual sim. Below is the URL to forum. The forum has PAC rom and RR rom. Use RR rom only as that is latest.

Just got my Sprint HTC Desire 816. I would like to flash it to CM. But I have not done much with HTC devices before. Can anyone provide some insights on: (1) Do I need to worry about S-OFF in this process? (2) Does this phone support fastboot flash system.img?

Thanks in advance.

Short answer is no to the first question and yes to the second. I assume your already rooted . What version of the 816 do you have?

No don't worry about S-OFF at all. Why do you have to flash a system.img, just install a recovery and your ROM by fastboot flashing a recovery.img?

Thanks for such quick responses. Much appreciated. For the second question - In the past I always use my Linux virtual machine to customize the /system folder to my liking and then pack it as system.img, and flash it. I know CM 12 is a good system, but just in case I want to do my own thing. I guess for the most part it is sufficient to use the custom recovery to flash a zip file.

Again, thanks.

Cool, that's the same one I have! Sorry about misinterpreting what you asked in the 2nd question I've been modifying mounting brackets on my surround speakers and helping here at the same time today,Lol. Let me try to redeem myself and yes I'm done with my brackets, thank god!

First off I went and looked at your previous posts and from them I've surmised that you are alot smarter than I am but what I can offer you is if you need to bounce something off me regarding our model phone I'm happy to help. I've flashed most all the custom CM roms here to my phone at one time or another and dealt with all the little quirks and fixes that said roms have needed. Basically you can use all of my previous mistakes as a quick learning curve and just cut to the fixes. I'm not the smartest guy in the world but I'm a detail guy and I read alot about all my portable devices so there you go. The offer is sincere and here whenever you want or need it.

This is exactly the reason why I love XDA, for folks like you - kind and willing to help. Thanks for the compliments. It makes my day!

I will flash the phone soon and be sure to consult you for questions.

Looks like I do need some help. Just flashed the phone to latest build of CM 12. But the phone reports "No SIM Card." Call and text works. In Settings --> About phone --> Status, it shows that the network is Sprint, ICCID is correctly reported. Mobile network is shown as disconnected though. I have tried to fool around with network settings through "*#*#4636#*#*" but it does not seem to help.

The phone is the Sprint prepaid version. I use RingPlus. It is working fine before flashing. My understanding is that CM flashing does not change profile/PRL etc. What can I try? Thanks.

There's an APN issue with CM and our version phone so there's an APN fix zip file to flash after flashing your rom and gapps, so 3rd. The no SIM card will usually stay but ignore it it's just a bug in CM that causes it to show up. Once you have the APN zip flashed your data will work fine but sometimes when switching between Wi-Fi and data you might have to enter data settings and click on the the 3 dots in upper right hand side of data settings and click mobile networks then access point names then just select the bottom non LTE circle and it will reset back to LTE data and your good to go. Some people say to toggle airplane mode but I haven't tried that one yet. It usually switches to data fine most of the time but yeah every one in a while I have to do those steps.

http://androidforums.com/threads/vi...rgin-mobile-apn-fix-wip-cm-aosp-4-4-x.840298/

Just flash the APN zip not the link to the SMS zip. That's for Kit Kat. That I fixed by using a play store app for texting. Stock won't let you send texts in CM. I use and like Textra but Google Hangouts works as well. Just read that you don't use Virgin Mobile but ring plus. That I'm not sure about if they use Sprints network like Virgin then maybe that APN zip would work for you but to be honest I don't know 100%. You can try it and see because it can't hurt anything as right now you have no data anyway.

Also below is a link to ringplus's APN settings if their different, which it looks like they are and you need to change then manually. I've just never done it manually but I believe on CM roms you can. I'll look through my settings to see but I'm on unofficial 12.1CM not 12.0.

Here's the link to the unofficial CM 12.1 that works for our phone , a5_chl and I checked in my data settings and yes there is a manual option to change the APN settings. It's the + sign at the top when you've entered the screen that shows your current APN settings.

Thanks, thoctor. I will flash the unofficial CM12.1 you referred to. So, it has LTE working just fine?

Here is what I have observed so far regarding the official CM 12 on the Sprint version of HTC Desire 816 (A5_CHL). First, out of flashing, calls/text works just fine. The phone reports no SIM card found, although ICCID is correctly shown in "About Phone." But it seems to be more than an APN issue because I cannot select the CDMA mode to be RUIM at all. It stucks at NV. So, CM 12 does not fully recognize the SIM card. 3G actually works if the correct APN is set. It works with the Virgin Mobile APN but displays data roaming. Once I modified the APN to be Ringplus it still works and no roaming sign is displayed.

Sorry I was reading up on RUIM and NV. My knowledge in the CDMA and GSM SIM thing is limited. I know our CDMA carrier, Sprint, uses our phones GSM SIM slot to handle the differences between the 2 versions but that's about all I know. I read up on RUIM and NV so I understand a little more about that now but not alot to be honest.

I do know that calls work in this Rom but outgoing texts do not in stock messaging app. LTE works, I checked in about phone in settings to verify LTE, but for me only when I flash that zip fix. CDMA is the same, stuck in NV mode so it's the same as 12.0CM that you flashed. I only use Bluetooth headphones or an external Bluetooth speaker not headset and they work fine but I've heard headset users have alot of drop issues.

Of course the volume issue is a big discussion with this phone and the lack of the proprietary Beats drivers out of stock Rom as well as the internal volume limiter being disabled but I just do like most here do. I set max volume at 2 to 3 clicks lower than it allows and use my Poweramp apps internal eq and it's fine. Not great like before on stock rom but ok. I listen to music on headphones or my external Bluetooth speaker anyway . I also had a voicemail message issue but I fixed that with finding an APK for the stock Sprint voice messaging app and installed that now my voicemail notifications work again.

Basically I've got our phone on CM12.1 working almost like my stock rom and it's reliable as a daily driver for me. Having said that I'm on the VM / Sprint carrier and not on the one you have but it's an MVNO for Sprint right?

That is a very detailed summary of what is/is not working. Thanks again.

I use Google Voice text App so the stock text messaging app is not an issue to me.

RingPlus is a MVNO of Sprint. It is similar to VM or Boost Mobile. They all use Sprint network. I feel the only difference is the APN - each use a different one so that Sprint can know which MVNO the handset belongs to.

I just flashed this "unofficial" CM 12.1. LTE works! That is great. No this silly "No SIM" error message anymore. And I do not even need to flash the APN fix - there is already a Ringplus APN so that is just great. But this time things are a bit reversed - 3G (CDMA EvDo) is not working. Not a major issue though because I have quite good LTE coverage here. It just shows an "R" indicating roaming. Then "About Phone" reports mobile network disconnected without an IP address.

I guess I will give it a few days to see how it works. Looks like a workable system.

Good to hear that. I'm a couple of builds behind you actually in CM12.1 unofficial. I've got the most recent downloaded on my computer but 2 updates came back to back after I had just flashed the 2nd build and I've just been lazy and content with the one I'm on. I'll move up soon but everything seems to be working fine for me so I'm in no hurry.

My mobile network is connected when I'm on my data and disconnected when on Wi-Fi do maybe that will work itself out for you who knows. I think the updates for this build are done but I've flashed so many different roms on this phone I'm just going to stick with this one from here on out. Let me know if you need that stock Sprint visual voicemail APK link to get voicemail notifications and I'll try to find where I got it from. I linked someone here in XDA to it so it's in my forum posts somewhere here but I post alot so it might take me awhile to find it but it's there. Think it might be farther back in this forum now that I think about it. Good luck and let me know how things go and if I have any issues that I need help on I'll give your a buzz also. I'm always messing something or other up. Just not lately .

Almost forgot, Xposed framework beta works on our phone as well with either S off or the wp_mod.ko script installed first to give write privileges to the system partition. I have S off but I had someone else here in XDA , who I helped get root, who installed Xposed after flashing that mod first and it's working for him fine. Just fyi in case you like Xposed frameworks modules. I know I do!

Some more testing result to report about the unofficial CM12.1 -

As reported earlier, LTE works fine. I can see the APN list and the one for Ringplus works beautifully. If "dun" is added to the APN type, Wi-Fi tethering works. However, the weird part is, when I switch the network mode to "3G", then all APNs disappear. Even if I attempted to add one, it will not save - it just looks like I am saving it, but then the list is still empty.

thoctor - who is the person maintaining this unofficial CM 12.1 for HTC Desire 816? Maybe should pass this information to the person.

Not 100% sure. They are somewhere farther back in this forum but I think he was just compiling the Rom for awhile then stopped. Not sure how all that really works but I'm pretty sure his posts are in this forum.

When I put mine in 3G in settings the notification says "R roaming" but my internet works, just in 3G, I guess.

Mine also shows roaming in 3G, but not connected.

Can you go into APN to see if you can still see a list of APNs when the phone is in 3G? On my phone, they all disappear. When I switch it back to LTE, they all come back.
