Quick question. Every time ive used gpe as my go to rom, eventually i have an odd persistant notofication.
"System update downloaded
Android l-mr1 upgrade for user/release keys..."

However when i restart to install, it loads me into recovery. No script runs, and for the life of me i cannot find the zip/img to flash. Anyone know what im talking about/ where to look?

Yes, this is because an update was released, but can't be installed on our devices.

I've been trying to cook up an update, but I'm a bit limited on time this week. I'll get it out when I can.

Thanks for the quick reply, and as always appreciate the continued support! Everything else works like Android Butter (atleast for me), so no need for a rush.

Is there anyway to up the MMS quality (without downloading using another texting application) any pictures I receive have like 5 pixels

THIS. I've searched countless hours scouring the internet looking for an answer for some who does not use hangouts (I use messenger right now). It's been a problem for me for at least 3 years. Every Android phone ive owned in that timeframe has had this issue and I really don't like hangouts. Can anyone attest to this?

I get some decent lag in intervals when using the stock kernel included in this ROM. What kernels do you guys recommend? I'd love some opinions.

What carrier?

Basically, my understanding of how this bit of MMS works is one of two ways - One, the ROM/or app for messaging has a list of apn's that correspond with the various carriers. MCC410_MNC320 (this is a made-up example). When your device connects to your carrier, it reports back what MCC and MNC are, which the app then looks up in it's tables. Hangouts has a list of all apns that it references, there are also some values baked into the framework-res of most ROM's I've seen.

Either or both of these sets of values can affect MMS quality...which is precisely why I include XHangouts with my ROM. For whatever reason, Hangouts+GPE+Verizon just compresses the hell out of MMS images.

Additionally, your carrier can put a hard fast limit on the quality your device retrieves...meaning no matter how great of an image you send out, you'll always get dog poo back.

Now, I know that messenger also uses the same setup as Hangouts for it's MMS quality settings, so, theoretically, one could make an Xposed module similar to XHangouts that lets you replace these values with whatever the user picks. Alternatively, you could try to compile Messenger from source with new values.

So, all of these considerations beg the question...what carrier? ;)

I believe we just have BeyondStock, Elite, HyperNova, and maybe ElementalX? Curious about your lag with BeyondStock kernel tho...I use it regularly and find it to be buttery smooth.

I can't speak for neil, but seeing as this is a vzw thread I don't think it's different, but I'm on verizon. I was shocked I couldn't just edit a system file to fix it. I've been getting potato quality images for years unless I use gosms which is way too ugly for me.

The biggest thing with Verizon seems to be the user agent string, and the correct mms url (apn setting). Hangouts used to pull the user agent from somewhere in the framework-res.apk. It's a generic android user agent and since it doesn't match a Verizon device you get crappy pictures. I haven't looked in a while, it may have changed where it pulls from.
The aosp messaging app has a string in the apk, you have to recompile the apk to change it.
Easiest thing for me has been to use an app that let's you set the user agent, I've been using htc6535lvw, that's the m9 user agent, but it works.

I'm on Verizon. Thanks for the reply, didn't know about all that. I may just say screw it and use hangouts

I've got a very special 10/20 build almost ready. Just passing it to my cohorts @enewman17 and @Captain_Throwback for testing and review, then I should *hopefully* be uploading yet tonight.

Either way, I guess this is a good time to announce that @enewman17 and I are going to be collaborating on the GPE stuff from here on out. Given that I'm moving to the 6P somewhat soon, I figure it's a great logical step for the ROM. I've modified my installer to fit more with his theory surrounding installers, and merged most of the two of our stuff.

So, I'll post when it's ready to go, but it should be soon. :D

Mine is supposed to ship around the 10th of November! I'm hoping the minor delay will give Rovo & Romracer time to get Xposed working for M. Having a Nexus device, I'm very inclined to do a source-built ROM next, so it's possible I won't need Xposed...but it's still nice to know it's there. :D

    Hi! I'm Digitalhigh, and welcome.

    What is this ROM?

This ROM is a mostly vanilla port of the International 5.1 Google Play Edition ROM for the HTC M8 with minimal modification and tweaks. GPE Roms are similar to AOSP in that they are lacking in the custom "skin" that OEM's like HTC and Samsung's respective Sense and Touchwiz use. However, unlike pure source-built ROMS, GPE contains certain features found in OEM ROM's. Specifically, this GPE supports boomsound, motion launch gestures, and the Duo FX camera.

What makes this ROM somewhat unique is that the installation process has been meticulously designed to be incredibly modular and allow for as much or as little customization as desired. Aside from the changes needed to make it work on Sprint and Verizon and updates to Google applications and frameworks, it is possible to install a nearly 100% stock GPE ROM. On the other hand, it's entirely possible to tailor nearly every element of the ROM's applications and performance variables.

In short, it's like an erector set for flashaholics who want some Sense in their Cyanogenmod...or maybe the other way round.

    Aroma Installer:

Carrier Selection - One ROM to rule them ALL!
Wipe options - Clean or dirty flash.
Material Themed - Changes color to match your carrier.
    Extra app Options
    Selectable, configurable sound mod options

Remembers your settings, uses them in future installs!

    Issues:

    Shouldn't be any.

    How to Install:

    A. Update your device to the latest firmware for your carrier. Google it.

    1. Download.
    2. Put on SDCard
    3. Launch Installer (i.e - OPEN ROM .ZIP WITH YOUR RECOVERY)
    4. Select full wipe for initial flash, dirty if you're brave. (Mileage May vary)(<-That means if dirty flash doesn't work, don't ask about it, just do a clean flash)
    5. Select your carrier.
    6. Pick apps.
    7. Flash.
    8. Choose whether to reboot. If you're using MultiROM, don't select the reboot option, as recovery needs to update your kernel.

All three MMS apps in the ROM are now fixed for size stuff. Because I'm replacing a core system app (Hangouts), there *MAY* be issues if you have an updated version of it installed as well. I got a bunch of google f/c's after dirty flash - rebooting seems to fix this.

The torch apk works as expected. As an additional happy accident, the flash mini-app in the dotview mod module for xposed now works.

Re-added several of the init.d scripts for optimization (not the one that makes it optimize apps every time )

    Added the proper ART fix.

    Now with free cookies!

Android L features made optional again.

    Updated to latest Luna kernel.

    More sprockets than ever!

    Okay, so, here's the scoop.

Me, HolyAngel, and Captain_throwback have ALL had the official release for a good chunk of time already. Not the one I've posted...but the release-keys, official, OTA version that will start kicking out tomorrow.

However, we were asked to keep it under our hats, so we tried.

But, people scavenging AFH found his version, so now all bets are off and I'm uploading the highly polished version I've been preparing to release later this evening.

So, screw it. It's going up. It's official. It's got newer firmware, bluetooth works perfectly, chromecast is good...it's damned solid all-around.

Oh, and it supports ALL carriers, and Captain_Throwback has asked me to take over official duties, so I will have a multiversion ready for you just as soon as my internet will let me.

Must put the son to bed...more details soon.

So, I've got some bad news...

I had planned on releasing a 120214 build today using our current version that had updated Viper4A, updated project ERA, fixed HOSTS file, updated SuperSU, Ambient Display, even more refinements to the tweaks and enhancements, and a few more uninstallable system apps.

But that is just not going to happen tonight.

It saddens me to have to inform you guys, but I've been forced by extenuating circumstances...to release a 120214 build today using the NEW RC build from HTC. You know, the one Mo Versi said was going to be delayed again? Yeah...that one. Well, we got our hands on it, and I have no idea what Google is on, because this thing is like buttered butter. It's like somebody covered a slip n' slide in KY jelly.

And yes, in the four hours we've had it now, we've been able to rip it apart, decompile the boot.oat, and add in all the APM mods. Plus I've got Ambient Display for you guys. And I fixed the g0$*#mn HOSTS file for adblocking.

So yeah. Get your donate buttons ready. If you were like "Man digitalhigh, this is the most ridiculously awesome ROM ever." with the previous builds, you're gonna cream in your tighty whities over this baby. I'm serious.

I'm doing what is hopefully my final test flash here, and then I will be uploading for your consumable goodness. AND I might actually go to bed before midnight one night this week. Score for me.

Wow. Pretty sad reading through here, between the squabbling and the noobs asking stupid questions and not providing any useful information, despite my repeated requests for stuff like logcats, what version you flashed, or what firmware you're on.

I'm happy to try helping, but this is getting ridiculous. I couldn't even post new info on builds if I wanted to... It'd just get swept away in two minutes.

If you're not providing the info I request ad nauseum, I will simply report your post for deletion. I don't have enough time to develop, have a life, and babysit this thread.
