Exactly.I'm not sure what he means by unreliable, but my experience with the compass was certainly more satisfactory when I was on Grarak's unofficial CM12.1. I'm not sure if this is related to the sensor, but on CM13 (using Google Maps) the arrow stutters when I turn the phone 360 degrees. Sometimes, it also moves erratically instead of pointing fixedly to one direction (as it did on 12.1). I tried to calibrate the compass through GPS tools to no avail.
The same goes for GPS locking. On 12.1 the signal used to lock as soon as I would open Google Maps, whereas on 13 there's always a lag of a couple of seconds. On third party apps it's even worse, as sometimes they get stuck on trying to get a GPS fix.

Yes, unreliable because you will never know when it works. Sometimes it works and sometimes it's not working, and I have to do a hard reboot to get it working. If this is workable to you, fine. For me something that is no working 100% of the time is not reliable.I'm not sure whether or not I did a reboot before I tried the compass so I can't comment about that. But you're writing that it works after a reboot yet you're calling it unreliable?
If the compass works after a reboot I wouldn't call it unreliable, and as I said before, my compass does seem to work perfectly fine in Google Maps.
