It´s only recommended to have the newest version, but you don´t need to do it.

Flashed with last TWRP eng.stk recovery with Slim Gapps and all worked fine.
Once booted the ROM stays some minutes with a message about "preparing Contacts", next that, the Setup Wizard starts.

However, I have a problem. I'm getting a red square at the border of the screen, that appears and disappears.
I have tried disabling some settings from Developer Settings but I can't disable it.

Any clue?

Strict mode is on by default, but in dev options it shows as off. Changing this to on or off doesen't seem to matter

Try to add this to the Build.prob:
persist.sys.strictmode.visual=0
persist.sys.strictmode.disable=1

The rom is not smooth. I mean cm13 is way smoother than this, I even changed governors but still no use.
I think you need to use some optimization flags while building.
