CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Note: This is for the Qualcomm (MSM8916) variant only. This will not work on the Mediatek version and should not, for any reason, be installed on Mediatek devices.

First-time Installation
Requires Unlocked Bootloader and TWRP custom recovery

1. Place ROM, radio firmware, and Gapps (Open Gapps, ARM 6.0 is tested working) in SD card
2. Reboot in Recovery Mode
3. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
4. Wipe Dalvik cache
5. Install the ROM zip
6. Install latest radio firmware
7. Install the Gapps zip
8. Reboot

Important: if you have a previous version of this ROM installed, there's no need to wipe data if you are flashing an update.

Root
Su binary is already built in. Go to Developer Options to enable Root Access.
