It's not bricked, a Grouper device is not so easy to brick ... ;)
You need to flash boot and system, instead of userdata. I suppose the boot image you flashed is not compatible to the system still installed on the device. Restart into bootloader and restart over ...

I have AOSP files, I can try that tonight, but I do want to move to your version. I can start by flashing TWRP to recovery and they use your instructions on the first post? Thanks for the quick replies!! :)

What is wipe and reboot? Sounds like erasing all , and then trying to reboot. I am still too noob....
wait, that means factory reset in TWRP?

Yes, erase everything of data and cache (but by flashing userdata.img you've already done that ...)
Factory Reset == Wipe

I also read about
fastboot erase system -w
which seems to be, erase the whole SD card, so we can start fresh. That sounds inviting. I can flash the necessary packages, and have a clean system. Seems like the way to go.

Normally when you are flashing system it will be erased before. The -w is for erasing / wiping the data partition, i.e. wipe / factory reset ... :)

I flashed AOSP to my N7, SUCCESS! It boots! I'm going to d/l the zip files from this thread, copy them to the top of my SD card, and use TWRP to install them. I couldn't abd push them, Ubuntu and abd would not detect the N7.

Thanks for the help AndDiSa!!

AndDiSa, thanks for maintaining Nexus 7 Android OS, I have your latest 6 version installed and it works fantastic. I was able to copy the files to the N7 from Windows, and use TWRP to install them, and it worked flawlessly. Again, a big thanks!!

Hey I installed this on my aging Nexus 7 and it still has slow down issues and hangs as well. I am wondering if this is due to the aging old hardware or specifically due to MM being more feature rich? I am using a nova launcher as well. Maybe its my apps? I even have an interactive governor set to? I know you release stable roms so maybe its just my dying hardware?

I suppose the slowlyness off the device is more related to the apps you are having installed / running. In addition there are devices which do suffer much when you have less than 4GB free of space. I can notice that on my device, too. As soon ad there is fewer available space it starts to lag.

Interesting because i I have only used 12 out of 32 gb? These apps run fine from my really old galaxy nexus to my current s7 edge. Is it possible its something else? Should I do another factory reset?

I guess you flashed a wrong userdata.img or formatted the /data partition with a wrong size (or your partition table is corrupt, but this is very unlikely) and now your data partition is only about 12GB.
I know there is a thread here in the Nexus 7 section which describes how to solve that issue but I don't have a link at hand.

Edit: I read wrong. If you have still 20 GB free try to use a trim on that partition.

To clarify I am only taking 12GB of space, I have access to the full 32 GB! I followed all your steps! I don't want to derail the thread so I'll try to do some digging on speeding it up. Clearing cache works but its very inconvenient to need to boot TWRP to do so! I just wanted to know if you have these lag spike issues?

Hi! I'm trying to reclaim my previous unusable Nexus7(2012) but I've run into some problems - I installed TWRP, did a factory reset wipe. But when I try to install the OTA (20160908) I'm getting the error 'system partition has unexpected contents after OTA update'. I'm a noob at this so any advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Tony

    Features
    • AOSP based (latest security fixes from August 2016 applied)
    • Optimized for Grouper as a "low memory device" for smoothest user experience
    • Kernel updated to support uid_cputime
    • KSM enabled
    • ZRAM disabled (my be enabled using e.g. TricksterMod)

    Installation Instructions
    1. Update Recovery to TWRP 3.0.2
    2. Boot into Recovery
    3. Factory Reset (only needed if you are not already on Android 6 AOSP on Grouper)
    4. Install OTA-Package (Build 20160908) (md5: cd4d42e6fd726232c6aaab9652d1d016)
    5. Install Gapps for 6.0 (I used Benzo-Gapps)
    6. Install SuperUser v2.7x (systemless) (Optional)
    7. Wipe dalvik (Optional, but sometimes prevents some issues)
    8. Reboot

As an alternative to flashing the OTA-Package, you can also flash the boot-.img and system-.img using fastboot.

Btw.: I suggest to disable journaling on ext4 partitions (you might want to have a look at this thread and running fstrim regularly

flash and use on your own risk!
