Hi folks. I'm still using CleanROM Seven, but considering upgrading to 8.2. However, I am a bit leery on diving into a thread with over 15,000 posts!
So, I read on this page about flashing MF1 firmware and ML1 modem, and I would like to know:
A: - is this something necessary if I use CleanROM 8.2? Or is it optional?
B - would either or both of these be useful/help performance if I stay on CleanROM Seven?
The main reasons I am looking to upgrade have recently manifested on a 3 week vacation we just finished :
1 - serious battery drain compared to what it "used to be", using the same apps and settings I've always used, even on a brand new Anker battery.
2- miserably frequent GPS dropout which made using my S3 for Waze navigation pretty much useless, even in major metropolitan areas.
3- Total loss of cell signal in areas where my wife's stock Bionic was still getting 4G from Verizon, the same carrier I use.
One thing I read about, and tried, was disabling 4G while we were traveling. I used the elusive Phone Info app. That did indeed help with the battery longevity. But we had to end up buying an aftermarket nav system for our car, to use in place of our phones, especially in the mountains. So I began to think about some possibility that the radio software I am using might need an update. Interesting to read about that very thing here, and that the radio software in use on the S3 is considered old and outdated. I'm certainly willing to try something newer.
I just tried one of the KitKat Beanstalk ROMs, but I had to nix it because it failed to reliably sound my daily medication alarms. And having grown used to CleanROM, I had trouble digging for things on Beanstalk that are right where I want them on CleanROM. So I am back to CleanROM Seven unless I can find a reliable replacement.
How much of this enormous thread would be considered no longer pertinent, due to solved issues and updates released?
