Hey there, so I have been on Pure Nexus 7.0 for about 6 or 7 months now and last night I decided it was time to upgrade to the newest version. I clean installed, wiped everything out, installed TWRP 3.1.0, flashed the newest vendor image, then flashed pure nexus 7.1.1 and booted to the ROM, everything seemed to be good (obviously couldn't do much without GAPPs) rebooted to recovery, flashed the version of GAPPS in the post 3, booted up and immediately kept getting hit with all sorts of errors from Google Play Services "Google Play Services has stopped responding" just about any time I did anything.
So I wiped everything and reinstalled the ROM but this time with mini GAPPs thinking maybe it was an app in particular. Same deal.

Long story short, I ended up wiping clean again a few times trying different variations, finally I uninstalled the Google Play Services, and installed a version off of apkmirror. That seems to have made most of the errors stop. Then I found out that the majority of my woes were from it not having permissions, so I set literally all of them on for Google Play Services.

Now I only have some issues signing into things like Youtube app, my swiftkey for my backups, and I do still get an error upon reboot saying Google Play Service has stopped or something to that effect but it never comes back after the first time.

I'm not against wiping it all and starting over again if someone has an idea of why this is happening. Thoughts?

Is literally no one else having these issues with the recommended GAPPS?
I have since found that my battery draining at an alarming rate, I had to charge my phone twice yesterday and the second time was after I got home from work.
This morning I have hardly even touched the phone, maybe streamed music for 15-20 min on the way to work, and its been off the charger for 2 hours and I am at 66%
Google Play Service is #1 and Android system is #2 on battery usage.
I thought I had fixed my "Google Play Services has stopped" messages by downgrading to a bit older version, turns out I am still getting the message pretty frequently. I have gone through and added permissions to just about every app I can see just to see if that helps but it hasn't seemed to.
Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations?

I would wait and do a clean flash of the next rom update. (Coming soon) I think you'll be happy with the changes. Wipe everything except your storage. And use the most recent flash kernel. Good luck!

I had Pur Nexus on 7.0 and it was awesome, I've just been using a really old version of it and wanted to upgrade.
I wiped fully at least 3 times trying to get this to work correctly. I did a full wipe, storage and all though the 2nd and 3rd time just to be sure. Still had bad luck with it.

I've never flashed a kernel, maybe that's something I'm missing?? What version should I be on?
Phone says 3.10.73-PureKernal-Angler-2.1.2 currently.
It looks as if this is a newer kernel though with a date of 2-15-17 so I guess that it gets updated with the ROM

Did you use Titanium Backup? I can't think of anything else that may be causing your issue

Not me...mine is running fine. If you are having Google Play issues then that sounds like your issue...especially if that is the #1 drain. Have you checked Better battery Stats or CPUspy to make sure your device is going into deep sleep? It does not sound like it is. If you cannot wait for the next release I strongly recommend a clean flash asap. Make sure you do so the way it is recommended by The Flash in his FAQ.

I didn't even have Titanium Backup on it before it started erroring out. I followed The_Flash's clean install directions to a T and even waited a while before rooting it. It was when I flashed GAPPs I started having issues. I want to point out again that I have done this at least 3 times, clean install each time with the same results.

Also I noticed that I did not ever get anything come up and ask me to setup my phone like it normally does. You know when you first start up a ROM and it has you set your phone name, preferences, sign into Google and all that. I never got anything of the sort before or after I flashed GAPPs, I thought that was odd.

I downloaded better battery stats, it shows that it is going into deep sleep however if I bump the phone or something the clock comes up, its never done this before and I have been through the menus racking my brain to turn that function off, Im sure its not helping anything. The phone stays very warm which isn't good, too.

I'm not against reflashing, I just want to have something different to try this time.

Just curious, how is your battery life, SOT, etc using MM on the 6p? I got this device post Nougat so curious about potential rollback benefits....Thank!

I underclock both clusters to 1248mhz because I can't tell a difference in performance while leaving the minimum at 384mhz. I can get through an entire 8 hour work day and only use 20% battery. Granted, I'm not doing much with it other than listening to music, maybe a YouTube video here and there, but it will definitely last the entire day no matter what.

I am sticking with MM because of compatibility. Xposed is fully compatible, Viper4Android works with everything, etc. Personal preference I guess, but I would take all of that over a slightly changed UI any day.

How about clearing out your internal storage other than personal files? Maybe there are settings files messing things up?

I tried this the second and third time I wiped thinking the same thing, since I was coming from Pure Nexus 7.0 and it still gave me the G Play Services has stopped errors.

Any idea what this unlabeled switch with a screenshot icon has to do with the setup process?

Didn't see anyone answer, but I think it is to enable Google Photos sync. I saw that when I was setting up a phone with PN a couple of days ago, I enabled it...maybe it's the 'Allow NSA monitoring' switch, but I doubt it...

New 7.0 Build with some more features, and some fixs, i am aware that 7.1.0 has dropped(pixel development branch) however it is not the final 7.1 and would be unstable as it stands right now(no kernel source, no gapps, etc). so i am going to stick with 7.0 until the final 7.1.1 source is live for stabilitys sake :)

Also i have taken over support of banks gapps and rebranded them as just "Dynamic Gapps" mini & full, mini is the traditional banks gapps, and full is purenexus gapps
