If headphone jacks die, they should have 2 usb c ports on phones. One for headphones and the other for charging.
That would completely miss the point of it. The second USB-C port would add a lot more bulk and cost more than a 3.5mm jack. USB wired headphones are only a fad. The future is wireless

Hopefully the sampling rate and bandwidth restrictions of wireless headphones are overcome soon. They're putting better DAC's in phones with each generation, but then limiting them by trying to force us to listen to audio over Bluetooth.

Hi guys.

I'd really like to ask for some help. I was on 8.0.1 (Beta version, I didn't receive an update for the final version) and wanted to get back to Pure Nexus. Here's what I did:

- Unlocked the bootloader using this guide
- Installed the latest TWRP using the same guide
- Updated the vendor image (downloaded the one in the last update post from Beans)
- Installed Pure nexus
- Installed Beansgapps

Everything went fine until I wanted to boot, and got stuck in a loop. The google logo shows up, dissapears, the warning message from the bootloader pops up, google logo, ... I also can't access recovery mode.

Since then I've tried:
- Installing the stock google firmware (8.0.1 and 7.1.2)
- Reflashing TWRP

I still can't acces the recovery. However, I have access to bootloader and my bootloader is unlocked.

Advice is more than welcome, thanks in advance!

I don't have a step-by-step solution for you but I do have a vague recollection of having the same problem when I was (briefly) dicking around with stock. I remember having to boot into bootloader mode (phone off, press and hold vol- & power at same time), from there press the volume down key once - should say recovery next to power button - and then press the power button. this should boot you into recovery mode. what I can't remember is the exact steps I took from there, if I had to reflash TWRP and reboot to recovery, or just a reboot to recovery took care of the problem.

PS I don't know if it makes a difference but I did not downgrade back to PN 7.1.2 I flashed a different Oreo rom.

I would start over. Wipe everything.
Fastboot flash twrp recovery.
Or use wugs toolkit for everything.
Put all your files on PC and go from there.

^^^THIS is what I would do as well.

Once something gets borked, it's almost always a better idea to start fresh.

Nothing worse that things going sideways, and you spend a ton of time chasing the ghost in the machine, only to have to start from scratch anyway!

Silver lining: you'll get more practice with a fresh set up, and peace of mind that not gremlins are left behind to haunt you later :D

I don't mean to sound like a complete noob, but how do I go on about with starting fresh? I've now tried multiple things: reinstalling stock firmware, reflashing TWRP (it goes back into bootloop when I select recovery in bootloader). I've used the Wug's tool kit to revert to stock but that also didn't work, it's back bootlooping as I type (now going strong for 30 minutes).

Only thing I can think of it somewhere you're missing a steps or taking one out of sequence.

Read over steps here from post #2 here and see if you notice a step you missed, or something you flashed out of sequence.

Heisenberg's guides are pretty bulletproof...

If you really feel you've followed all the right procedures and steps, you might just have the bootloop of death. There are several threads in the 6P section that suggest fixes and RMA suggestions.

Agreed, the guide is bulletproof. I followed every step earlier today. When I finished flashing Gapps, it started booting. Only thing is, I unplugged the USB cable and then it started experiencing the loop. Could that potentially be the reason?

As of now, I can't think of anything else to do. I can revert it back to stock using Wug's tool kit and I might be able to return it. Since it's a welknown issue for the 6P, a replacement could solve everything.

Thanks for the help so far! I'll let you know what happens. A shame since I was thrilled to see Beans at it again with Oreo.

so, what is your goal? Run stock? PN 7.XX?
Are you able to return to stock via Wugs? if so, after boot then go back, flash custom recovery and root.
Just get up and running first with stock, then come back, someone in this thread will walk you through installing PN.
Cool?

My goal was to run PN. Sorry, my last post was not really clear. I've installed the stock firmware manually (fastboot) and through Wugs but I always end up with the boot loop. I also don't have access to recovery mode, also not possible when I flash TWRP (fastboot). I don't really see how I can fix this, seemed to have tried everything. It might be a hardware issue.

Now I remember what is jacked. Heisenbergs guide for returning to stock is not current for Oreo 8.1, at least not without a little bit of thinking and 1 or 2 additional steps that aren't listed. If you haven't, I would download the current Oreo zip from google, extract and run the flash-all script that is appropriate for your OS. This is the easiest although it is going to wipe everything on your phone and install stock recovery. If that works and you can boot into stock, then flash twrp and proceed from there. I'm not going to make any promises about downgrading though.

Edit - I also remember people who tested the Oreo beta HAD to do a factory reset from the phone settings before they returned to PN or they had all kinds of problems

Eh, the way you did it is kind of patchy and is destined for issues. Follow these steps (I was on 8.1 SuperXE ROM and it sucked, now back on Pure Nexus 7.1.2_r24):

-Save all you data somewhere off the phone, the next step wipes everything, even TWRP
-Unlock Developer mode and turn on USB debugging
-Reboot into fastboot (or bootloader mode)
-Download the stock ROM from here: https://developers.google.com/android/images, you want N2G48B if you are going to Pure Nexus 7.1.2_r24
-Extract the zip and open a command window in the extracted folder then type flash-all.bat, this will wipe everything and install AOSP. These instructions are on the page linked above as well.
-Boot up phone, go through the setup prompts (not important, skip it all, just blast through), then activate USB debugging again
-Reboot into fastboot (or bootloader mode) then flash TWRP
-From there, reboot into recovery so TWRP can permanently install itself, don't boot into the ROM or you'll have to flash TWRP again
-Copy over the install files you need while in TWRP, just remember where you put them
-Wipe system, data, cache, and dalvik cache in Wipe > Advanced Wipe.

Flash everything in this order, one at a time:
*Flash Pure Nexus zip.
*Flash Beans GApps zip.
*Flash root (optional, recommend Magisk).
*Flash custom kernel (optional, recommend EX Kernel).
*Reboot and profit.

Hope that helps someone! I've been pulling my hair out lately with Oreo ROMs and a battery that would die with 80% charge so I've gotten quite good at ROMing and repairing this phone, haha. Now my battery is fixed and I have a fresh Pure Nexus install and life is good!

To not have the ability to charge my phone while using a wired headphone is still a fail for my requirements. Not saying this is for everybody, but it's my own usage requirements that are driving my next phone.

But, I am happy to stay on the Nexus 6P. I've had few problems (had to replace the battery, and just recently the charging port), but it's the best device I have owned.

Cheers,
B.D.
Actually, you can. My wife misplaced the adapter for her new Pixel so I went on Amazon to find a replacement. Three are loads of headphone adapters that also have a female USB-C connector for simultaneous charging.

I haven't used the headphone connector on my 6P in a LONG time. I bought an inexpensive Bluetooth gadget for the car that does both hands free calling and audio streaming, and an really inexpensive Amazon Basics Bluetooth receiver to connect to my stereo. We have a Bluetooth speaker (Bose) for travel. All work great and so much more convenient than wires.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I'm not able to boot up the device after installing the stock firmware (7.1.2) as described above. Recovery also doesn't work, it goes straight into bootlooping. I'm afraid that the device is busted. I've issued a repair request, will update with what happens next.

New 7.0 Build with some more features, and some fixs, i am aware that 7.1.0 has dropped(pixel development branch) however it is not the final 7.1 and would be unstable as it stands right now(no kernel source, no gapps, etc). so i am going to stick with 7.0 until the final 7.1.1 source is live for stabilitys sake :)

Also i have taken over support of banks gapps and rebranded them as just "Dynamic Gapps" mini & full, mini is the traditional banks gapps, and full is purenexus gapps
