AOSPA v4.4-beta1

New update is up. Now introducing CM's Theme Engine. Hover has been upgraded to stable status. Also, included are a ton of other fixes. You can also adjust vibration intensity and fully disable the hardware keys (back, home, etc) to use the navbar or PIE instead. Clean flash is recommended due to the massive changes. Enjoy! :)

Awesome! Ecstatic about the cm theme engine.

I'll give it a shot and see how she goes :).

Also, nice to see our device on the G+ post. It's the little things that count haha :D:good:

I had this problem with 4.3 BETA7 and the newest 4.4-RC1 Build. I flash the rom and Gapps, then install Nandroid Manager to restore my apps (not data,) texts, mms, and WiFi hotspots. I reboot to finish the restore process and it shows the Samsung logo and then hangs on a black screen, never even showing the PA boot animation. If I fiddle with taking out the battery and rebooting the phone, I eventually can get it to boot. Once the phone is booted after the Nandroid Manager restore, then it reboots fine. Any ideas what would cause this?

UPDATE 1: I've been messing with it for a half hour on RC1 and still can't get it to boot. I am going to wipe, reflash, and restore one item at a time, rebooting between to see if I can find the problem.

UPDATE 2: I installed some basic apps without using nandroid manager at all and it rebooted to a black screen. Out of curiosity, I let it sit there and after about 10 minutes, the PA boot animation started, then after sitting on that for about 5 minutes, the phone got to the lock screen. It seems like it's running normal speed now, but the first reboot is worst than the first boot, so something's gotta be out of whack somewhere. I used the PA Micro Modular Gapps, so the apps I installed were Google Chrome, Google Keyboard, Google Camera, Play Services Update, and Hangouts.

sd card issues

I have a few apps installed on my sd card. After flashing RC1, all the apps on my sd card are no longer available. When I try to move apps to the sd card, it says there is insufficient storage. I can read my sd card through the documents app, so I don't think it's an issue of the sd card going bad. The app tells me there is 10+ gb of unused space. I can see what files are on it. I can just re-install the apps to internal storage, but I am wondering if there is a better solution. My system partition is getting full to where I had to downgrade to micro Gapps.

App2sd isn't working in RC1. It'll be fixed next update.

What recovery are you using?

Wifi issues

I am experiencing some wifi issues. When on my home wifi network, some apps can't utilize the data connection. It seems inconsistent how often the wifi doesn't work and how many apps it affects. The ones most affected are Google Now and Gmail. Sometimes other apps work and other times more apps (Feedly, Eye in the Sky weather, browsers) cannot access data either. I don't spend enough time on other networks to notice if this is specifically a response to my network or all wifi. No other device has any problems on my network so I think it's a PA bug.

edit: Should have searched first. It seems like it's an issue from Google's side. I guess I will just turn off wifi until they figure it out.

AOSPA v4.4-RC2

New update. This update should squash most of the bugs that were present in the previous release. Chrome issues should be resolved and apps2sd should work again. Also, I increased the total amount of RAM and included the HTC MDP color enhancement feature (both credit to Sultanxda). I also enabled USB mass storage for those that want it.

Uploads to goo may take a while to show up, so you can use the mirror site instead (it's faster anyway).

Are you having any problems with the stock Camera when switching resolutions? I cleaned flashed with 4.4.3, 06/08 Mini PA Gapps and got a FC which required a reboot of my phone to fix. Also Google Camera won't allow Video mode to activate. It just pops up "Can't connect to the camera." I was reading somewhere about the extra RAM may be causing it as the Heap for the Camera was reduced. @Sultanxda was mentioning this a few days. I know he just recently updated his kernel to fix, so maybe he can mentioned what he changed to fix it. Hope that helps!

Yup that was the issue. I forgot that when I was testing it out. I'll have a fix later.

During my initial memory map tests, I found that 10MB was the smallest that the camera heap could be while still maintaining full camera functionality, so I set the camera heap to 10MB. However, it appeared that this was too little memory, so I increased the camera heap size by 6MB, so it is now 16MB in my kernel (originally it was 18MB). The other change I made to my memory map that isn't on Gerrit is that I increased the SF heap's size by 16MB for a total of 64MB of SF memory (in the Gerrit commit it's currently set at 48MB). The reason for this is that someone posted a kernel log that indicated that the SF heap ran out of memory and caused graphical glitches (according to the log, the SF heap only needed ~512KB of more RAM). Instead of increasing the SF heap in size by a few MB, I increased it by 16MB to make sure that it never runs out of memory again and that it is large enough to support newer versions of Android. I'll update my Gerrit patch tomorrow with these changes.

AOSPA v4.4 Final

New update. In this release Android 4.4.4 has been merged. ParanoidAndroid 4.4 no longer has the beta or RC tags and can be called stable. In this release the VolumePanel has been redesigned to be inline with Hover. Bugs from the previous releases (swipe up using PIE, Camera issues, clear-all in recents) have been squashed.

NOTE: Builds should be up within an hour or two. Skip the 20140625 release (causes internal SD mount issues)

    From another non-virtual partitioned ROM:
    1. Make sure you have the latest OFFICIAL TWRP installed.
    2. Backup current ROM if desired
    3. Back up EVERYTHING on your internal SD card to your computer (the internal SD card WILL BE ERASED in the next step).
    4. In TWRP, go to Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> check Internal Storage -> press on "Repair or Change File System" -> press on "Change File System" -> press on "EXT4", and then swipe to start formatting the internal SD card. This can take up to a minute.
    5. Wipe Data, Cache and System.
    6. Copy the newest version of my TWRP recovery to your device and flash it.
    7. After that is finished, go back to the main menu, then go to Reboot and press on Recovery.
    8. Once the device has rebooted back into TWRP recovery, goto mount then uncheck and recheck data.
    9. Copy and flash the new ROM and your GApps package to your device and flash
    10. Reboot system
    11. Connect your phone to your computer and copy back your backed-up internal SD card data to the internal SD card.
    12. Repartitioning is completed. Enjoy your 8GB of additional app storage space.

From CM13.0, CM12.1 or another virtual partitioned ROM:
    1. Flash ROM and GApps (at the same time)
    2. Reboot

    Updating to a newer version:
    • Just flash ROM and reboot.
