The location doesn't matter. Even you can flash a ROM located in OTG. Let's wait for Surdu to answer.
When I abort the boot with a long power button press and try to boot to recovery I end up in the stock recovery and i have to flash TWRP again... maybe this info helps in some way

This. Sounds. Amazing. Thanks so much to all of you on this Rom. If I've got latest TWRP installed(I've realised I don't quite at moment) but no SU instead, but do have an unlocked bootloader, can I simply follow guide to install RROS and all will be well including SU?
Ps sorry coming from Honor v9 AL20 build with no rebranding

Yes. But decrypt your data first if still encrypted, then make a nandroid backup, then flash this.

Sent from my Honor 8 using XDA Labs

My device Honor 8 Pro ( DUKE-L09 ) with EMUI B122 !

Here are the steps I've taken to install this ROM :

* unlocked bootloader
* reboot to bootloader and installed this TWRP
* reboot device directly on TWRP by pressing comb keys ( while device was on bootloader mode , type "fastboot reboot" and at the same time remove USB cable and keep pressing Volume Up - device will reboot to TWRP )
* format data & reboot to TWRP
* re-format data & reboot to TWRP ( first time was a issue here because data can't be mounted )
* performed a factory reset
* while data was successfully formated and decrypted key was removed, I pushed via USB cable RROS 7.1.2 on Internal Storage ( sdcard )
* downloaded Gapps nano 7.1.2 x64 and pushed also to Internel Storage
* flashed RROS & Gapps at the same time ( with option add more zips )
* reboot to System
* and that was all - the device successfully booted to RROS 7.1.2 with Nano Gapps installed !

Thank you for your respone.

I just tried it again:

1. flash TWRP --> reboot to TWRP directly
2. format Data (twice with reboots between)
3. Factory reset
4. flash RROS & NanoGapps
5. Reboot to system

I did exactly every step you listed but Im still stuck on the same Screen as before... it does not work for me.
