I've installed the Android Messages App from Google Inc. via apkmirror.com started it on my Nexus 9 LTE and it changed the default SMS-App to the Messenger and no more notification from hangouts ;)

Loving this ROM, my N9 is finally usable! One question; can/should I let the OTA Security update download and install? Just want to make sure it won't mess with anything.

Android 7.1.2
Slim-7.1.2.build.1.0-STABLE-20170629-0835

Thanks!

Downloaded and installed the latest build (1.17). After getting it set up, I noticed some of the apps via the play store would not install as it stated it was not compatible.

Apps being:
  • Google Camera
  • Paypal

Any idea why this would happen? I was able to install them manually by downloading the apk via apkmirror or using TB to restore the app. The stock rom allows these apps to be installed from the play store without issues.

In general I've been loving this ROM, save for the occasional lock up. Have been on STABLE 7.1.2 Build 1.0 for a couple of months, just reflashed the latest weekly 7.1.2.build.1.15. A couple of questions:

(1) Does anyone else have the problem that the tablet won't bluetooth pair anymore with the official Nexus 9 folio keyboard? Sees it via NFC tag, initiates pairing, but never connects. I know the keyboard works because I can pair it to my HTC10 phone and use it fine.
(2) Any way to stop the tablet from trying to download and install the automatic Google system updates? I get the persistent "Couldn't Install System Update" warning in the notification tray, click through says "Verification Problem".

Any insights appreciated.
I can't pair my tablet with my official keyboard, too. So yeah there's probably a bug in the ROM.

Jerry -

I moved over to the latest Lineage. I got the nexus folio keyboard to work with that ROM (not without a little bit of fiddling but once you pair it once it works well.). Actually I have found Lineage to be quicker and fewer lockups / reboots than SLIM. (I'm not dissing the SLIM developers, just my own personal experience.)

It's been a while since i've used my Nexus 9... but boy what a terrible slow device on stock software... I'm glad i found this thread because it seems it's still being updated! That's nice to hear. I just have a few questions:
1. Do i need to instal a custom kernel also? Or is it included in the Rom?
2. What's the most stable version? I need to prepare this tablet for my GF and her studies. So nothing fancy pancy just stable and no battery drain would be good enough.

Thanks in advanced,

Len

Rom has its own kernel. I always recommend latest, but there's some oddity right now with some gapps.

Just installed 2 days ago. Bean mini gapps works fine. Also decrypted the nexus. It's fast now, and until now no slowdowns. Great rom :) also I use elementalx kernel.

You guys are fast! Thanks.

Your advice is then to download the second latest? Or wait a week to download the update?

Cheers,

Len
No technically the fail will happen regardless which build you use. It's something with gapps. I don't have tab with me so can't check which gapps working for me right now
