I could be blind but I haven't found split screen. Is it available in this ROM?
Well slim recents you long press app name and you get the icon, or drag said app to the top and it starts split screen. You can also set the shortcut to navbar buttons.

Hey all - new Nexus 9 owner here. I had installed this Slim ROM and was really enjoying it (thank you devs!), but after I had everything all setup and working well, I realized that I forgot to root it! So I then booted into TWRP and flashed the latest SuperSU (which worked find with stock), but after that, Slim never booted again (stuck at Slim boot animation).

Am I missing something? I browsed this thread and didn't see any "special" instructions for installing SuperSU, but maybe I missed it.

Looking forward to going back to Slim (currently running Lineage 14 while waiting, just to test it)...

Thank you in advance!

EDIT: Nevermind - was user error - I was flashing the "update" version of SuperSU instead of the "Full" version of SuperSU... All is well now.

Hello,

I'm trying to install this rom on my Wi-Fi Nexus 9, but I'm getting stuck at the initial boot where the Slim logo is there.
It's been over an hour and it never goes past.
Facotry wiped.
Downloaded N9F27M from Google and flashed the factory image, bootloader, vendor, etc.
Installed TWRP.
Flashed the latest weekly and OpenGApps 7.1 ARM64 Nano (31 December 2017).

Should I try an older factory image such as N9F27L or N9F27H?

EDIT: Just reflashed Slim without Gapps and it worked just fine. I assume I'll just have to sift through older versions of the Gapps until I find one that works.

Hmm - that's strange because I recently flashed the latest "weekly" update of the ROM with the latest version of OpenGapps and all was fine... I think I used the "stock" version of OpenGapps...

Is anyone else having issues with the device not going into deep sleep? I'm still testing, but right now if I install EX Kernel Manager, deep sleep stops working. If I remove the app and reboot, the tablet goes into deep sleep just fine.

I'm going to keep testing, but there is something up with EX kernel manager (or one of it's options I'm setting) that is causing the Nexus 9 to not enter deep sleep...

I'll report back if I can find the exact culprit... If anyone else knows what the issue may be, please do let me know!

Keep an eye on recovery while it flashes. Sometimes it seems to go stupid fast while flashing. When this happens it will loop. And logs I've gotten don't really tell me much, anyone see it happen copy recovery and dmesg and link them to me (or pm me) see if I see anything common.

I found the culprit that was causing deep sleep to not work (after monitoring wakelocks). It was the "bluedroid_pm" process - and I only had issues after installing EX Kernel manager and only after rebooting (after installing it)... I'm running ElementalX kernel. The "solution" was to disable bluetooth scanning under the Location settings... BLuetooth was disabled the whole time.

Can someone else see if they can replicate this (SlimROM 7 with ElementalX kernel)? Steps are:

1. Check for deep sleep as-is (using some simple utility like CPU Master).
2. Install EX Kernel manager - set it up to use ElementalX governor (only change from default).
3. Check deep sleep (still works at this point).
4. Reboot
5. Check deep sleep (stops working for me after reboot). I may get a minute or 2 of deep sleep before it stops working.

Obviously, your tablet should NOT be connected to AC power while testing (deep sleep is not "active" while connected to AC power).

No deep-sleep = bad battery performance (obviously!). :)

Thank you! This was driving me crazy.... I thought it was working fine but kept finding that it would "stop" working after a while - it was due to the reboot after installing EX Kernel Manager... Took a while to figure that out! :)

Slim7 gave me a new tablet :) ! What an improvement..... One minor remark is the slightly more battery drain. Maybe flash another kernel? Suggestions ?
i have same problem with this rom, before is use stock rom screen on time about 4-5 hours, now with this rom only 3-3,5 hours. Can someone help me how to improve battery life on this rom?

Thanks

Don't think it's the rom. I easily get 4.5 hrs screen on time. Check which apps are draining battery. Greenify and amplify are great helpers. You need to identify the battery draining apps/processes and handle them accordingly.

My flounder is getting something in the ballpark of 14h with 6h SoT. It's not amazing but it's a fairly old battery. Not sure how long on only sleeping, I use tab a lot of media consumption.

Sleep time is looong. I can use mine on and off all weekend without charging.

Check my post right above yours. Like I said in that post, I found that my Nexus 9 running SlimROM, with ElementalX kernel was not going into deep sleep after I installed EX Kernel manager and rebooted. I eventually found that I had to disable "Bluetooth Location Scanning" in order to allow the tablet to enter deep sleep (which conserves battery).

I only had this issue when using EX Kernel Manager to modify the governor (to ElementalX - defaults to Interactive).

Haven't had any deep-sleep-related issues since disabling bluetooth location scanning...

So check to make sure your device is entering deep sleep (with an app such as CPU Master). If it's not, try disabling bluetooth location scanning (or install something like Better Battery Stats app to look at kernel wakelocks).

Tried to disable Bluetooth location scanning, for streaming youtube and kodi maximum screen on time is 4:30 cannot go more. Wifi always on, bluetooth always off, location history on with battery saving mode, screen brightness maybe about 2-5%. maybe you have any suggestion can make screen on time better ?
Thanks

When you say 4.5 hours of screen-on time, are you talking about one single block of 4.5 hours or 4.5 hours total between multiple sessions (where there are blocks of screen-off time in-between the sessions)? I'm just trying to understand the issue a little better. If it's a single block of 4.5 hours of screen-on time, then it really doesn't matter if deep-sleep is working or not...

Originally, you mentioned 3.5 hours of on-screen time (and that you got between 4.5 and 5 hours screen-on time with stock). So are you now saying that this ROM is about the same as stock? Again, just trying to understand a little better..

Personally, I've been extremely disappointed in this tablet. With it's specs, it should be really fast - but I get "Hang ups" very often if I load more than a single browser tab or switch between multiple apps. I don't understand it - I have tablets with much lower specs that run circles around this thing! It's a shame, because I love the form factor and the tablet in general, but man, the performance just isn't where it should be...

It's easy to understand the poor performance. Nvidia chip. Everything has to be "translated", that combined with insufficient ram = poor performance/multitasking.

But I've owned Nvidia Tegra 4 devices with 2GB of RAM that were super fast (in fact, the fastest Android devices I've ever owned).

For example, both the HP Slatebook x2 and the Asus TF701 have nvidia Tegra 4 processors and 2GB of RAM and they perform great. They were running older versions of Android, but the Tegra 4 was also a previous generation of processor compared to what's in the Nexus 9.

It just doesn't make any sense to me...
