But I've owned Nvidia Tegra 4 devices with 2GB of RAM that were super fast (in fact, the fastest Android devices I've ever owned).

For example, both the HP Slatebook x2 and the Asus TF701 have nvidia Tegra 4 processors and 2GB of RAM and they perform great. They were running older versions of Android, but the Tegra 4 was also a previous generation of processor compared to what's in the Nexus 9.

It just doesn't make any sense to me...
Also 64 bit.

From what I've read, the Nvidia K1 is supposed to be about 4 times faster than the Nvidia Tegra 4 - it still doesn't make sense why my Tegra 4 devices (with the same amount of RAM) were so much faster than the Nexus 9 - unless the difference between Android 4 and Android 7 is so great that it kills the performance *that* much.... Maybe I should try loading Android 5 on the Nexus 9 - just to see if Android is at least partially to blame?

I know that things like storage speed can make a big difference in overall performance as well (the Asus Transformer 700 suffered from that), but I can't imaging that HTC used that slow of storage in the Nexus 9 - but maybe they did?

On paper, I just don't understand why the Nexus 9 performs so badly.

We're getting pretty off topic here. But there are many discussions on this topic around the forum. It is a popular topic/debate. You're not the only one interested. But it has been thoroughly discussed. There are definitive and speculative answers.

P.S. Android 5 is definitely not better.

I am a fan of n9. It works for my needs. Just some reading (lots of reading) and media consumption mostly. No games (getting to old to have time for that sort of thing). Also use it for basic Android tinkering, it is a Nexus after all.

I just wish there was a way to solve the "Chrome freezes" and "Graphics freezes" issues on this tablet.

Slim is a lot better than stock, but I still average at least 1-2 reboots a day due to freezeups.

Always (and only) when browsing in Chrome, or doing something requiring graphics (viewing pictures, YouTube, etc).

I can browse in Ghosterey's browser for hours ... Try chrome, it's frozen inside of 30 minutes.

Hi,
I set my preferred network connection type from LTE to 3G.
But this setting is ignored every time i reboot my nexus 9, or after connection lost.
So it jump back to LTE.

I need to go setting page and it will reconnect as 3G again.

Is this a bug?
Thanks.

I am using Nexus 9 LTE 32GB with Slim Rom v7.1.2 build 2.0

Thanks.

Doesn't happen to me on slim or lineage. (Or aicp for that matter). Have you tried getting logs?

Security Updates

I am currently running Slim7 Stable 2.0, and it remains my favorite.

Does SlimROMs provide security updates, or do we have to wait for new version releases?

Thanks again for the best experience.

Guys,

Found the issue! The problem is OpenGapps. Doesn't matter what version i use (full / mini / nano) after flashing OpenGapps, SlimRom doesn't boot. I pushed BeansGapps mini to the Nexus. Factory reset the device, Wiped everything exept internal storage (did that before all this), flashed SLim Rom and without reboot Flashed BeansGapps. After that I rebooted without any wipe. Took a little while to boot (I guess 5 to 10 minutes) and I saw the Google Setup.

Hope I could help someone with this "sort-of" guide.

I'm coming from official RR Oreo weekly and this rom doesnt bootup in any way... with and without gapps and with and without beans gapps. Just stays at Google screen.

I wiped everything except internal storage.
Flashed the rom
(flashed nothing /flashed gapps/ flashed bean gapps here)
Reboot

Nothing works!

You mean nothing you've tried works. You just haven't done it right yet.
Because you're coming from an Oreo rom. The Oreo ROMs modify Vendor. So if you have a backup of vendor from before you flashed Oreo, restore it. Or extract the vendor.img from the last factory image and flash that.

And your gonna have to format your data, not wipe, format. Which will wipe internal storage. Going back and forth from Oreo to nougat, yep, gotta format data.

I came from stock yesterday, n9f27m
- fastboot oem unlock = success
- fastboot recover twrp for flounder = success
- format + wipe = success

Flashed slimrom 7 2.0 stable, gapps nano, supser su
Reboots and stays at slimrom boot animation for >15mins

So i tried the same with Lineage 14 and Beansapps. Boots up fine.

Any idea what Im missing to get SlimRom up and running. Could it be the vendor.img?

Also, what format should data be? ext4 or f2fs?

Had the same problem as you both. Dug back in the thread and it seems the problem is gapps. I used beans gapps and it booted properly - https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-dynamic-gapps-t3487192

Let's imagine my N9 is still on Slim 5 (yes...), what would be the steps to upgrade?

    I personally would do:

    - Get latest official zip. Unzip all images and flash bootloader and vendor imgs with fastboot.
    - Flash latest TWRP from fastboot and boot it
    - Wipe factory/reset, flash ROM, opengapps and custom kernel (if desired).
