Well, it looks like the last build will be the final for RR t0lte.

LineageOS has discontinued support for 14.1, and moved on to only 15.1 and 16.1.

I tried keeping this alive for as long as I could, but with the base for this going EOL, it looks like this ROM is EOL also. If anything changes, I'll let you know. But as of now, I don't see any more updates.

I'll leave all the ROM's in AFH at least for now, so you'll still be able to download them. I enjoyed the ride building/using these builds for a long time when I was still using this device. and hope you did too... but like always, things come to an end. TBH, this device is over 6 years old (think I bought mine in Oct 2012?), so this was amazing to still be in development for so long. Definitely got your $ worth :highfive:

I know that the S3 and note 2 7100 have got LOS 15 and 16 to work (mostly), but I'm not able to commit the time to try and mess with a device I don't use any more. Maybe someone will at some point?

I'll leave this thread open I guess, but probably won't be posting here any more. I know there was only a few hundred downloads for the last few ROM's, but some of you were die hard RR users to the end.

On the plus side for me, I get to free up a couple hundred Gigs of space on my HD from the RR and LOS folders/ROM's, and all the different kernel folders and backups I have.

Maybe see you in a different device's ROM thread again :good:

Anyone else having notification sound problems?

I noticed that both of you that complained of this, have flashed ROM's not meant for this phone (7100 ROM's) and wondering if that had anything to do with it?

If anyone wants to flash some of the older ROM's, I need to know when the last time it was working, then when it failed.

For example... if you flash the Dec security update ROM and it works, then Jan ROM doesn't. I can look to see what commit may have caused it during that period. Otherwise, I'm not going to go through months of commits trying to find the possible culprit. If it gets down to 20-30 commits, it's doable. I haven't even powered on this phone in months and mine is probably on a July ROM, and I have no desire to mess with spending time flashing this phone again, but I will try to find the cause of the problem if someone else wants to help narrow it down for me.

RR-N-v5.8.5-20181218-t0lte-Unofficial the last build that worked. I done some troubleshooting a while back. I copied the notification .ogg files from system to sdcard data. Still didn't play. I converted the files to mp3, they play fine from system or sdcard. I'm assuming it is something specific to the .ogg file type.

edit.. 20190209 also has same issue.

thanks again for you!

Can you try and flash the 20181218 first and make sure that works, then flash the 20190209 and see if it's broke. That way I can be sure it's one of the commits for that month alone and I won't have to search too much for what it could be.

Just want to make sure in case you flashed one of those 7100 ROM's between the 20181218 and 20190209 and that caused a problem. Trying to be sure it's just the Jan updated ROM that is the problem.

Thanks :good:

I'm currently using 20191218.. have been while this issue is there. The exact file I flashed is RR-N-v5.8.5-20181218-t0lte-Unofficial.zip. I have dirty/clean flashed each file RR-N-v5.8.5-20190209-t0lte-Unofficial.zip, RR-N-v5.8.5-20190221-t0lte-Unofficial.zip, RR-N-v5.8.5-20190311-t0lte-Unofficial.zip. I can tell you now, the last file that played notification sounds in .ogg was RR-N-v5.8.5-20181218-t0lte-Unofficial.zip. Nothing since.

Hmmm, there is nothing in the Jan update ROM commits that should have caused that? I'll try to look more later, but I don't see anything as of now.

Hi,
logcat gives the following multiple times (among other errors):

Code:
03-22 19:44:21.688 3033 7972 E ACodec : Unable to instantiate a decoder for type 'audio/vorbis' with err 0xfffffffe.
03-22 19:44:21.688 3033 7972 E ACodec : signalError(omxError 0xfffffffe, internalError -2)
03-22 19:44:21.688 3033 7972 E MediaCodec: Codec reported err 0xfffffffe, actionCode 0, while in state 1
03-22 19:44:21.689 3033 7970 E SoundPool: Unable to load sample

Does that help you to find the cause of the problem?

Well, I attempted to fix the notification sound problem. Unfortunately, I wasn't successful. I even went as far as reverting every commit from the Jan build, but the problem was still there. I spent a couple of hours messing with it, including all the reverting, then building and testing. Evidently, something got corrupt somewhere, but I have no idea where, and I'm not able to spend the time to figure it out.

I was willing to keep doing the security updates, but with this problem, I don't feel it's worth my time to keep doing it when most of you probably won't upgrade due to this issue.

I guess if you want to stay on this ROM with working notification sound, stay with the Dec build. I kept it alive for over a year after RR stopped supporting this version, but I guess it's officially done :(

Don't know much about the process of compiling the rom, but It seems to be a codec issue. Its not loading it, is that something that can be updated or changed? I like this ROM.

    New build up...

June security updates and updated all new commits

I'll try to keep this up for as long as I can, but it's getting to be a pain having to manually update each commit. If it was a just a simple syncing of sources, it would be a breeze... but I have to go through each and every commit (which can be 50 or more each month) and can take a few hours if there is a lot of conflicts when things don't pick cleanly because of the way RR is built. RR hasn't updated anything for 7.1 in months, that's why I have to do everything manually myself :( but it's the only way to have this continue since we most probably won't ever see Oreo on this device.... And it's summer time and I have lost desire to work on this. This is more of a winter time thing for me when I can't get outside :D

If that new, updated kernel ever comes out from fourkbomb, that will probably re-energize me to get into this again... here's hoping for good luck to him on his project :fingers-crossed:

    RR-N-v5.8.5-20180612-t0lte-Unofficial

    New build up

This is what would be the last "official" build. All official builds for N are done after this one, and have to have to have "final" in the title. Since this isn't official, I'll keep building as normal, but the updates from now on will be mostly just updates from LineageOS and if I do kernel updates. I may slow down the builds to every 2 weeks or so, depending on if there is anything worth warranting a build. For instance, there was only 4 or 5 commits for the whole week for LineageOS (and those were nothing special), and there was no updates for over a week in RR sources, so no real reason to do a build. There will still be monthly security updates, so don't worry about that. I'm still doing a monthly build for los13.0 when the security updates come out, so we should be good for quite a while... hopefully till we can make O work on our device (fingers crossed)

As far as building for O.... plan on it taking a few months, maybe more, if it happens at all. All of us are busy with different things in life right now, and you have no idea how much time messing with this takes when trying to get a new version started. But, once we have something available worth flashing, it will be posted for you to try. So no asking for ETA's !!! You will be put on my ignore list and never get removed if you do.

Ok, now that that is done :D ...

As usual, before flashing, use the Magisk uninstall. There is a new version from this month in the official Magisk thread, use that one. There is the new Magisk 14 in this build btw. If you have problems with it, you can use the uninstall and go back to 13, or change to different SU if you desire. I've been on 14 for a while since it 1st came out and it's fine, but I also don't use any of the modules, only use it for root.

*And yes, the source for the security updates for September were finally released and are included in this build.

Here is new link for latest ROM, since I deleted the old one.

I was actually extremely close to closing the thread and delete all the ROM's from AFH.
I even started deleting them, but didn't want one person to ruin it for everyone.

I will probably still only post new ROM's once or twice a month.
There was only a few commits added in the last month, so no real reason to build more often.
If there is something worthwhile added, I'll build more often.

    New build up

RR hadn't updated any commits for 3 weeks, so I thought they were done with N and moved on to O. With that thought, I started going back the last 3 weeks and manually adding all the commits that wern't added from Linage. Almost got done after a few hours going through every commit to see if they were included now, then I check RR and they finally started updating their files  , so I was waiting till they were done. Security updates didn't come until a few days ago, but now everything should be updated including the new RIL additions.... Again, sorry for the delay.
