Theres much more to develope than 1 device and that cant be made in such 1 day. You see a bit of progress on github.com/openkirin.
For sure people who know about developing a software can read what is going on, but I ve never learnd this, so a simple status update what is going on would be great. :)
And yes, I know that it is going to take more than 1 day.. or more than 1 month aso. but a simple update that we know what is going on would take about ~2 minutes and everyone would be happy about it. :)

Usually I'd second that but in this case it's Huawei who should answer for this.
These guys here do what they want to do and if they share it, even better.
I'd rather have it that way than for them feeling like work rather than hobby.

Although if you really want to dive in the matter more afaik this concerns pretty much all EMUI5/ Huawei devices and the other Subforums like the H8 one may already contain the answer you're looking for.

well we had some success actually modifying the kernel ..
through kernel modules, was quite hard to find the right toolchain but IT works.
We can hook into the kernel blindly (without having a kernel source) and modify its behaviour to our needs up to a certain extend - but thats it for the moment, we will keep you updated.

My experience says that without the sources a build does not work 100%. I mean the build runs quite well. There are only 2 options. Either Huawei has brain and releases the sources or you get it alone. The second I do not believe. That's why we'll be looking at the empty P9 forever and ever. Best regards

my experience tells me that we have opensource counterparts (4.1.18 common linux kernel) which has much in common with huawei 4.1.18 kernel, just without the "real drivers".
It still can be used as a code reference, so we could edit the kernel blindly up to a certain extend - although this requires some heavy work.
Anyway it is no option at all to rewrite the device drivers from scratch (as this would require serious hardware debugging).

Best regards

most of our work usually happens locally, as many things are far to experimental to publish it on github, once we have some stable progress, you will see updates. I built a new Version with latest fixes from Honor 8, but i bet this still requires alot of work to get the most stuff working, i will test everthing today. more to follow soon ..
