If you have a good router that supports both bands but is not working correctly - then it could be a router issue.
The problems some of us are having are a tablet Wifi issue.
If you read more of this thread you'll understand that some have no problems, some do.

Tested both they .zips with latest rom, no go, same issue, back to rom 12/16 and all fine. It's definitely not a router problem, as my Surface Pro connects instantly to 5G, as does my Android TV box.

Since many of us don't have wifi issues, these issues are probably a problem of the rom (or cm) with specific router models or chipsets.

With my tp link archer d5 v1 no problems so far.

Those of us that have this issue...are we all located in the same region? Namely the US? That is where I am and I have the same as "Scaramonga" (but do not know where he is located)...but some in England seem to have none...some do.

Please report your location when you report issues...or mainly any difficulty with Wifi issues.
All the other issues could be related to apps installed, or many other things.

So lets try to pinpoint the Wifi issues...no matter what they are...but where they are located in the world..

I finally figured out how to fix the random screen flickering when using certain cpu intensive applications, like Firefox.

If I goto settings -> battery -> Battery saver and performance -> performance profile (set to quick), then there are absolutely no screen flickers. Maybe the "balanced" profile is set too low somewhere. @fefifofum

Dirty flashed from 1201 to 1225. I've two SSIDs to separate my 2.4and 5 GHz connections and live in the UK. The tablet doesn't know the password for the 2.4 connection so can't connect to that at the moment for testing.

On 1201, 5 GHz would be solid and tablet would connect and hold. Now on 1225 the connection is very unstable and will often drop and reconnect.

I can't find the old setting to force 2.4 GHz only. I vaguely remember someone said it's gone from CM14.1? Is that correct?

There is a zip somewhere that must be flashed after supersu, that fixes this problem.

But you don't really need supersu, just use the built-in superuser

Just enable 'Developer Options', look around. You'll see. No need to install a SU app, in fact, do not or you'll get a hard hang right after install of SU. You are rooted, in effect, automatically with late 13 & 14 in an option in Dev.Opt. Just find the 'root' option and enable it.
