It seems probable that P9 will get the Oreo OS and EMUI 8.0. Considered also that Samsung is going to provide it to mid-range devices like A3 and A5 2017.

You don't know well Huawei. Lol
I know (though it's my first Huawei).. it's not so fast in updating.. an update is useful if you get it soon, to patch vulnerabilities and avoid exploits. I said it a bit provocatively, just because I saw that proposition in an article

I think fragmentation is virtually an excuse. Today a phone is just like a PC, hence exposed in the same manner. People on average care about security on their desktop machine, so why they shouldn't for mobile?

Look at Apple. Look at Microsoft. On Android, also the most supported device (e.g. the previous Nexus series) see at most 2 different OS versions. And all are abandoned within 24 months. I think an adequate support should be at least for 5 years for *every* device. I understand this sounds as an absurdity at the current time. But let's say that the producers are rather interested in increasing sales (Google not detached from the play..). So to do this they continuously introduce more or less useful innovations, generating in a certain part of the public the tendency to always feel out of fashion.

PCs are affected by fragmentation, however e.g. for OS like Windows you receive patches for many many years, and the support is guaranteed.

If a hockey player has e.g. a Ferrari, he may not know how its internal electronic satellite system works, but for sure he will be interested in preserving his car from being stolen

Why not level out the Android interfaces on the various devices, mantaing adherence with AOSP? This way it would be easier making updates, just when Google releases them.

Treble is supposed to help with this problem: devices that come with Oreo out of the box MUST be able to run AOSP. Unfortunately the P9 is still officially on Nougat, and devices that will get updated to Oreo do not have to comply with this.
But we have a vendor partition that should be able to be utilized they ported treble to the redmi with a 512 MB cust partition so in essence we should be able to get project treble working

Yes it's possible but (some, incl. P9) Huawei devices aren't snapdragon based and that complicates things.

On my 5 Years Old Xperia Z works RRO 6.0.0 Android 8.1.x 100% Stable and Daily use. Its Snapdragon s4 Pro.

Why can not 8.0 Rom working 100% on Huawei P9.
Not to mention, this is the only Oreo ROM for the device.
The P9 family has a very inactive modding community for them being flagships... I chose a flagship to have a good library of custom ROMs, for pete's sake!
