There is a problem with moto g4 plus that affects any app that I use to take videos/photos. Even the default camera app that comes with this android version still has this problem.

Check the screenshots below that I took. When I use the PHOTO mode the screen is much much more wider. When I use the VIDEO mode, the field of view gets much much smaller. I think this problem is related to some Digital image stabilization but if so, is there a way I can disable this behaviour? It simply crops too much the image.

Photo mode: https://photos.app.goo.gl/AbjZiqRnQ4Dk7f7J9
Video mode: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2WPDJZCagURnjEkq6

You can clearly see the area around the santa claus is much bigger on the IMAGE mode.

OBS: I am not using/applying any zoom in the video mode, dont worry

Updated twrp recovery.
Did not 'factory reset'.
Installed lineage-15.1-20181107-UNOFFICIAL-athene.zip and MindTheGapps-8.1.0-arm64-20180808_153856.zip .
Updated apps via play store.
Gmail, FB Messenger, SMS-Backup+, and WeatherUnderground full crash .
Fingerprint works, mostly all other apps work. Advanced start works.
My G4 Plus is my daily driver so I have to revert back to lineage 14.1 .
Thought I'd post prior to.

Try to clear cache from the apps that crashes and reinstall them. Reboot your device and wipe caches.

Sorry, he installed the mind gapps indeed! I have no idea why the OP does not change the #1 and say there that you should install the mind gapps and also provide the most recent link. The last update of #1 is months old. Most people dont have time to read all the hunddreds of message of thsi thread to find the latest release post. Why not providing that kind of info (download link of the most recent ROM and download link of mind gapps) right on #1?

I couldn't wait. I did a backup prior to, and reinstalled 14.1, rebooted, updated, booted to recovery and restored my backup, and all is fine now. If clearing cache and stuff is required, then it should be on the first post. In any case, I posted for others so they may see what happens when you follow the directions in post #1.
Thanks for the help, I'll come back when it's official. I wish I had two phones so I could play a bit more with the unofficial roms.

EDIT: Once having 14.1 reinstalled, GAPPS was a nightmare. Had to use Settings/apps/playstore/ clear cache and storage to make Gapps usable again.

Few questions, forgive me I am a noob to the Moto g4 forums. A few questions:

1) is this only for g4 plus it said the g4?
2) I'm assuming the flashlight issue is fixed and that the linked camera app functions well?

3) any pitfalls that I need to know about?
Looks like unlock, install twrp, install room, install mind gapps, profit.

4) I assume there isn't an official Los? It'd be nice to get auto updates on this particular phone?

To answer some of your questions..

1.) All ROMs available in the G4 Plus forums are also compatible with the G4.

2.) As far as I know, the flashlight tile is still broken and there are plenty of working camera options. Soon enough, all bugs will be worked out.

3.) This device is pretty straight forward in terms of unlocking the bootloader, flashing TWRP, ROMs, root, kernels, etc..

4.) There is no "Official" LOS 15.1 at this time but I believe it is being worked towards.

We want los 16.0 official
Sadly, this is likely never going to happen. We might, might, get a 15.1 official, after enough time with the new stock update lets the awesome devs fix some of the issues with access to a stock kernel. Said stock kernel might even help with 16 working better.

However, the rules for a release to be official has gotten a bit more strengent lately. As this is an older phone (which only has x64 via a hack), it isn't likely to have enough devs who care enough for it to get the work done needed for official. Granted, it isn't an "old" phone, but the turnover for these things are really fast, which is sad in its own right. :(

    What's working
    • Mostly everything except for those mentioned in this list.
    Bugs
    • Permissive SELinux
    • Flashlight and Video recording
    Installation instructions
    • Get ROM and GApps and put it in phone.
    • Boot to recovery mode.
    • Do a factory reset. If you are coming from some previous version of LineageOS itself then this step is optional.
    • Flash ROM, then flash GApps.
    • Reboot. First boot will take time.

    Reporting bugs
    • DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
    • Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
    • If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
    • If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Any bug not reported in the bug report format below may be ignored.

I have the incoming call crash too, but mine doesn't reboot. If I click close, it just pops back up, but if I ignore it and swipe to answer it still works.

Also, the Moto E2 now has cameras working. They had the same issue ours has, wonder if anyone knows how to use their fix. I'd look at it myself, but I don't own a computer.
Camera and FP are already fixed, I will release the next build soon

First of all sorry for the delay, had some problem with my device but now it works fine. So without wasting much of the time let's begin.

New build available with May security patches.
    https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=890278863836285927

    Changelog
    • Updated to 8.1.0_r26 ( May Security Patch )
    • LiveDisplay is now working
    • Switched to binderized DRM HAL
    • Oreo blobs update from shamrock
    • Adreno stack update from OSR18H-315 release

And this is a 32-bit build, there's no reason to provide a 64-bit build for 2GB variant until the memory management issue is solved + We do not have full 64-bit blobs as there aren't many 8952 devices around. I will provide 64-bit build once i get some 64-bit blobs.

    About Camera
There isn't nothing I can do currently because I enabled HAL3 ( Thanks to a hint by vache ) and since Motorola still uses the HAL1 features and fixes aren't implemented there. Camera needs new proprietary blobs in order to work correctly. So do not waste time on reporting them.

    About SELinux
Once all the stacks are running the Oreo version I'll switch the SELinux state to enforcing.
